Some people seem to take delight in stealing these at the auctions

At least that little pleasure has been removed lately

I've never bought a dealer replacement as sapper says I order a new set off eBay or just buy 4 standard lugs rpto replace the removed lockers

Thing is lots of these modern lockers are garbage and been done up 18 months ago with a windy gun on full belt so the tool you've just bought fails anyway

Just my input being very old and not part of the ignorant boorish younger generation look at me im Mr big

    Your 100 percent correct ..

Had the same issue a couple of weeks ago with a Mondeo. I had no locking key code and ford(SMC) parts are closed so i couldnt go in and get them to match it.

Ended up buying a new set and getting them removed.

Done that before also with a broken locking wheel but key ive always removed them and fitted standard nuts on older stuff without high value wheels

Same here new Kuga on lease for the wife and any old px for me to commute in.

Leasing actually seems like a good idea have a friend who swears buy it and gets a nice new car every 2-3 years for the depreciation cost if bought see Arval lease used cars now too my guess is they try the better returns on a used lease before selling them on ..

Can anyone tell me what the procedure is for getting a replacement locking wheel key for a Fiesta mk7? Can I just drop in to Ford parts or will it have to be ordered?

Probably have to be ordered see if there’s a number on the wheel nut and check ebay for a matching number one done that before

They have probably set up their own WhatsApp group where they can ‘ one up ‘each other like the usual auction ring group of bullshitters of old.I can imagine what it’s like if you post ‘how ya doing’ and in reply ‘ a bit quiet but did 9 on Monday ‘.How about margins ‘ still only netting 2 grand a unit ‘ .Then another ‘ wouldn’t get out of bed for less than 3 grand ‘. You have got to laugh.

There was always one wasn’t there ...  bought 6 houses and 2 hotels with profits

  7. How many of you own a personal car or just use a trade car I normally keep an old run about for myself and keep my mum with something reasonable as a spare car in case my brother or sisters car is off the road for whatever reason and also mum can use it for going to local shop etc and it always there to use for picking up my dads prescriptions etc

When Im in the good books and have a better half lol  she normally gets something decent to drive to

Ha Ha,hopefully you are OK,if not you should investigate. That is an unusual car for a woman to buy.In normal times it would make a good rental 24 hour taxi ( usually 3 drivers only one with a taxi licence is not unknown ).Please excuse me but that sort of thinking comes with being in the job forever !

Guess it becomes a way of life tradevet

    Hi there fellas,

I was looking to upgrade my Snapon OBD scanner (ethos Edge upto 2017 cars) for something a little newer that will let me read ECUs and clear the faults, if it could program and calibrate that would be a bonus too.
which 2021 Hardware do you guys suggest or do you use that’s good?

I already have Dealer level JLR software so them cars aren’t an issue but all these new cars communicate differently if I’m correct.

Have a look at the launch stuff lot of the garages I’ve been in the past use it and seem happy with it . I’ve heard the Bosch stuff is good too

The best staff are already working

You need to find where they are and tempt them with shosigers and things

    Mot station

    Local car wash

    Etc

u are of course right . And when you get the good ones you want to keep years ago I could have picked up my phone went into my contacts and had Valeters painters panel beaters mechanics In there etc in fact the same goes for most trades man plumber electrician joiner even for work about the house

sadly there all getting older and some are sadly no longer with us and the people of my generation think nothing of a Monday off and coming in on a Tuesday likes nothing has happened .of many will let you down not turn up or promise to get to back to you and it never happens ..  sad thing is some of them could be good or are good if they put there minds to it

I've found its word of mouth in this business, things may of changed as it's been a long time since I've employed somebody and I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than do it again.

Personally I'd do everything I can do avoid employing staff but, we all work differentlyB)

Facebook is great for recruiting in this day and age. Free / negligble cost and each application is swamped.

    Thanks both

My old job the garage had a policy like this

    Mr Boss

Any driver  is covered to drive any vehicle personally owned or hired leased or on contract hire by Mr Boss or his business/businesses for motor trade use and also social domestic and pleasure use /business use out with the motor trade mr boss  and mrs boss man may also drive a vehicle not owned by Them with the owners permission for motor trade use other business use or social domestic and pleasure fully comp

I appreciate it would be expense  but covers any situation basically  but can’t find I company that does it his was back in 2003 and I’ve not seen him or on speaking terms to him anymore in years

but can’t find a company who will do it I always thought if you payed the money Get cover for anything

does anyone know if there is companies will do this especially with the social thing for car not owned by me personally or the business but with the owners permission..

  14. Although since lockdown I currently work on my own based is scotland with a group of other self employed contractors and car sales and garage business owners this may change after lockdown and covid  in the i guess not so near future but possibly in a a year or so with a second business I’m looking to set up

something that always interested me was staff advertising where is the best place to find staff for valeting mot testers driver panel beaters painter you get the idea is it word of mouth or do a lot of people use indeed jobcentre plus Facebook ads etc .. I’ve always known people hand cvs in to previous garages I’ve worked in and around wish I kept them in a folder but hindsight is a wonderful thing I guess what’s all your thoughts

just think Im getting to any age I need to start building things up doing things I’ve always thought about or wanted to try or I’ll be in a rocking chair old and greyer saying what if and should I could I sort of thing

.also if you guys have any good ideas for a car sales business mot station I’d love to hear your thoughts ..

Ha Ha.That sounds a bit like when Motability started.Become a Motability named driver for an infirm relative and operate as a taxi driver with a free car. There were cars coming back worn out.Better still in the distant past,a sales manager near us got into trouble loaning out cars on Saturday night straight off the pitch untaxed to his mates. They were used as taxis and brought back early on Monday mornings !

The memories trade vet the memories hope your well
