They don't understand though the concept we have to earn a profit do they . I ask what would happen to their wages  if their boss at work failed to make a profit :D I'm pretty sure they don't have a clue how it all works half the time .

Thanks for the laugh david lol some people eh maybe its a special edition it changes colour when you wash it with look warm water back to blue like the toy cars i had when i was kid ..

the funniest one i had i had was on a px i offered a price for it less than what he first wanted says few days later phones say he wasn't  comfortable accepting my offer at that price i think here we go but he says he and his wife have had a discussion and would accept £500 less for the px as it has his car has few little marks ok no problem Thanks says me and he buys  the car .

It’s kind of 6 and half a dozen our bigger truck takes 5\6 cars so if it’s a full load it’s cheaper but that run in the big truck is 2 days due to driver hours and being limited to 56mph, but if it’s just one then we have a single car beavertail which is tacho exempt as it’s under 3.5ton so it can do the same run within 24 hours and isn’t speed restricted. Hopefully going to add a bigger variety of trucks to the fleet as we build our transport side, it’s a fairly new venture for us which we just started to keep our own costs down.

Good luck with the new venture Mark all the best with it mate ...

Can you not trade mrs c in for a new model .. lol  one of our local mot stations was saying the aa breakdown cover is fairly good and he has never had any problems with them paying out .

We actually deal in commercials and yup, the price's people are paying are crazy, seriously wonder how they make anything!

The way the online prices are going,it might be the contrarian buyers ( ungraded and grade 5 stuff ) that will score.Another thought,I think being an auction grading officer might prove to be a lucrative job ( know what I mean Harry ? )

While online cars are far too expensive  has anyone seen the price of commercials, several thousand over book !

Ive a 2 separate mates deal only in commercials both have been buying direct out of companies lately one says its cause he cant see what he's buying  in person the other say its due to online places

although i buy a bit of both mainly cars  though i can honestly say I've not bought a decent small van in a few months

As someone who is new to the trade, have to say, I don't think i could have started at a better time, in terms of being able to buy online. I can carry on with my day job, and buy and reserve a time to collect, it's wonderful for efficiencies. As far as BCA go, looking out what things are selling for, why would they go back to a physical auction, even if the prices weren't silly, they are saving enough on not having their sites open to public as it is. For a buyer, guess it puts us on a level playing field.

Is deffo a plus to us having them not open to the public .

i dont miss it one little bit, I know a few mates who never logged in on line once who have had a huge wake up call into the modern way of doing business, I did giggle when overheard someone down the mot station last week say they spent an hour on there computer looking for cookies to delete as they couldnt get on line to work...gesh old school at its best.

use both ways really either or works but did enjoy the catch up with staff and other traders

I do wonder how it affects some of the old school who have never used a computer i know a couple of elderly traders  from the auction that don't so much as own a smart phone

always liked to see stuff in the flesh as was never a great believer in some of the grading systems . But as you say its the modern way for everything inc banking etc so guess we all have to move with the times ..

The auction houses are onto a winner. Online only is better in every way. Auction sites just become glorified storage/prep facilities. They can claw back customer parking too. No need to have to provide facilities for customers. Everything online. Everyone has to register and provide ID. Private buyers can still join but only basic access and not only pay over but get stung for delivery! For auctions it’s a win win! They have got us more by the knackers than ever at the moment!

The thing I find odd is listening to auctions where the auctioneers are actually sitting in the auction hall with no hall bidders! Way not just do it remotely in a nice A/C office with the vendors being entertained with lap dancers and all that!

personally, I think online only was inevitable and covid has just given them the opportunity to bring it forward. I think the big auction houses are seeing the difference and the potential. I’ll miss my trips to the block. It’s the best bet of the job for me. It’s what makes it interesting.

You really do miss it . Even just the blether and social interaction with the other traders auction staff etc ..

I agree with the everyone I think it will be a long time before any of us set foot in a physical auction .

Covid Zombie Apocalyse, all these firms have gone barking fuckin mad, from the crap you guys are describing, to just, well, a piss poor service :(

    @umesh

Jepsons Plates, bejayzus, don't recall seeing one of them on a Car for decades, glad to hear they still going ;)

Still going strong dave few friends in trade use them .. remember the manual jepson machine in the first garage i worked in you had to have about 4 attempts due to the damp letters in the old mouldy store room and the spacing template was long gone so you just had to judge it by eye .. God i hated that machine used to shout on the boss or one of the others from the mechanic body shop to make them when i was there as an apprentice ..  funny thing is after them using it years they had it down to a fine art  and could make a decent plate with it .

I had a factor close my account when I went back to work, apparently I didn't spend enough on parts in lockdown, you really couldn't make this crap up, I'm now using eurocarfarts more

Had the same thing .. with a local factor you would think they would want to keep your business during these times said they could reopen it and in the mean time id still get trade prices i like you do go else where now ..

Me to. CAP valuations are often as useful as a chocolate fireguard. I paid 2.5k over Cap clean the other day and I don’t think the car was dear.....

Exactly this, because of the type of stock I buy, I’m normally paying over book, but my margins are pretty decent, that’s what matters

I agree sometimes u have to through the book away .. so to speak .

Apologies, I am in the process of opening a trade. And as such have been meticulously reading as much as I can on it before I start making the big deals. I am trying to get feelers of margins and types of vehicles I should be targeting as such you could say I am in the early stages.

That sounds like a good start. Has anyone noticed how the cap clean price seems to closely resemble the private guide price on AT? What service, other than auction houses do people use to get their cap blw/avg/clean prices from or subscribe to?

Good luck in your new business

Good on her, these wankers are useless .........................

I have issues atm with them, our village is a 40 mph limit, and every bloody day, more so Saturday and Sunday there are post Covid lockdown zombies coming through here in droves, most are over 60mph, and the bikes, well they are at least into 3 figures.

So far 3 pets killed, including one of mine, a fuckin Volvo on top of an E Class through my neighbours wall, and a few years back there were fatalities.

We all have pets and children / grandchildren, it's gonna happen one day, I got threatened by a Biker the other day, which even though I'm 58 yrs old was a very very bad move on his part .............

After he had picked himself and his bike off the floor, he fired it up and fucked off narrowly missed getting hit by a Camper van

I ran his number plate afterwards, yeah, he was on a 1000cc Blue Yam, plate came back as 1998 Red 50cc Honda,no tax and no VOSA MOT cert ever, meaning it had been scrapped before it's first test !!

Took 2 days to get hold of the Cops, in the end I used 999 because they wouldn't answer any other numbers, did they do anything at all ?????????????

    DID THEY FUCK :(

Myself and another local garage have a plan, currently collecting a few scrappers then we gonna abandon' em in the middle of the fuckin road at peak times Sat and Sunday, that'll get noticed, only we will know fuck all about it

    Like the plan dave ..

Better/safer those than Maccy D's when 1/2 price in August, me and my boy took the longer route back from the unit for a quick 'bargain bite' and it was heaving with people; we took one look and left, never saw a better way of spreading illness. Never usually touch that cr@p anyway, so no loss.

They must of had a hard time this year, I hope they all survived - at least our nearest one has which is handy sometimes.

The line in to the local McDonald's was grid lock tonight when i went out for some shopping .

I haven't got the time/interest to view your prior posts; but are you a used car dealer, albeit part time - or just buying the one car.

If the latter, what on earth information do you expect people who are full time traders, have spent decades in cases learning the hard way, and far more importantly have gone through a damn hard time for 3 months of this year and are now trying to make back some money??

That could be construed as a threat; so is your actual occupation a hacker then ??

    @Casper

Thank you Casper, I don't want to dwell on it on account of losing both my baby sister, aged 55, now almost 4 years ago and latterly my youngest daughter, as I mentioned before, so your comment/s are very much appreciated but sadly it's probably best for me to keep busy/occupied and drop the topic

I understand that . Currently trying to do a similar thing by keeping busy and also look after my dad who has dementia so trying to juggle both with family which although I'm keeping busy not as busy as I once was due to it consider the topic closed let's get back to the cars ..

Indeed; saw an early '14 RR Sport 3.0 derv, but at least an L494, end at an auction at (including my estimated fees) £28,285 - 50k miles & really nice spec admittedly and I know some nice ones are now on offer north of £30k, but bought 100% blind, as this auction was, that was a bit too rich for my blood........

So we're currently dragging out all the old trade in's left outside behind the unit which we never bothered with, as their actual cost was so small, plus all potentially needing a good "look at" for potential issues. After I've checked if their viable or not, my lad is valeting the hell out of them, which was not worth doing before, for their sale value back then.

Sorted out a power steering fluid leak on one today, everything else was OK as far as a 13 year old car goes and drove it hard taking a long, 20 mile 'scenic route' on some lovely country roads for some assurance for the MOT and it didn't even get any advisories!!

Come tomorrow, rinse and repeat - just got to keep the wife away from him when valeting them - got home from Tuesday MOT and she was helping him as a kind of therapy, I suspect, as currently she's on a 6 week course of radiation treatment - and she was trying to help him by 'doing' the engine crud with bloody oven cleaner, none too carefully either ........

All the best Marcus to u and your son and of course I wish you wife all the best with her treatment . Hope it goes as well as can be expected ..
