LOL, I recounted that tale to cheer this doom and gloom, as I said earlier I will earn well out of the motor Trade whatever happens with Brexit, but i don't know exactly how yet. Someone said earlier that guys on the dole won't be able to afford Cars, my thinking is they will be the ones getting Doss Office Loans etc to buy a good used car to cart around the 7 kids and big fat wifey !! I also agree with the comment that folks uncertainty will stop them signing up for Loans and PCP's etc, so the decent 5 - 10k used cars will be in demand, which is the stuff I'm selling these days. Those that can't afford another Car will need to keep their existing vehicles running so repairs will be on the up !! On the flip side of Nick's 50p, if the UK economy booms then we'll all be selling 3 year old Cars and Servicing and Repairing them ................. As far as I'm concerned it's win win "I'll be laughing all the way to the Leeds" well "the Santander" I was actually pondering whether to build a huge Workshop with Paint Booth on a plot we have and didn't really fancy another 12 month project, but if it goes how I think it will I might do that and take on a couple of staff, have 10 more years, then sell up and piss off somewhere hot -
I'm with Rory and the others on this one, OK looking at the pics perhaps they are right, it could pass through the guide. I'd go with the above letter, no deal, goalpost have been moved by 3rd party !! I'm not running down the road naked, there's 6" of snow outside ESP works fine on the SLK as I found out at 7am this morning taking Mel to work, black ice, half asleep, Car nicely sideways and sorted itself out before I had reacted

Dipstick goes through Chain Guides WTF ???? Can any of our MINI guys confirm or refute this ???? I am not familiar with these as in have not had one in bits that far down, but this sounds like utter bollocks to me ................... Think about it, if it actually passed through a guide the Chain would bust it in half first time it cranked over !! I still think that garage is at it, unless this can be confirmed. /\ /\ /\ LIKE

Yes, I earned an absolute bucket load of Cash charging £40 a time to check peoples Car Electronics for the Millenium Bug, and in return I gave them a Certificate printed from Windows to say that their vehicle should be fine after 31/ 12/ 99 -
Have you actually tried to start this Car ?? As we all know there are Garages and then there are Garages, someone there could be trying to get it for fuck all and knows it only needs a cheap fix, may be nothing to do with timing chains etc. I'd get it back to base and go from there, "without prejudice" of course

Not worried at all TG it won't affect the likes of us by a huge amount, in fact if the economy goes that bad it could work to our advantage, folks will need to keep their cars running longer and will be looking to buy cheaper decent Cars not brand new Smaller Independents should do better than big fish with large overheads Me, said it before I don't give a monkeys it will not affect me in the slightest I will definitely take advantage of whatever scenario, I just don't know right now what that may be -

Yes, and most of those are "Foreign Cars" or now owned by foreign companies, there was almost double that number registered in UK in 2017 !! Of course we still build a few of our own Cars, but the point is still valid, out of all the original factories we had, large and small Mfrs there are very few left, instead for example we have the likes of Toyota Factories. -
Me too lol, we have £100 notes up here which make life easier, the niftys and tons fit fine in my wallet

Yes, couldn't agree more, Austin, Morris, MG, Rover, etc were all killed of due to the British Leyland Debacle, what a fuckin' disaster that was, I worked on and bought and sold loads of them back then, and cannot remember one single Car coming out of there that was any good Dagenham was however producing some of the best Fords ever, and Luton produced decent Vauxhall's way back in the day, not so any more, all downsized and outsourced !! UK is fucked, but it still doesn't affect those of us who are clued up, and those of us who were more clued up way back saw the writing on the wall and all fucked off to USA, UAE, Aussie etc etc while they could, not so easy nowadays. I didn't see / didn't wanna see that writing, and ended up doing the next best thing, but yeah, another 20 years and this little Hamlet will be fucked, it is just starting already, but by then I'll be approaching 80 and not give a shit !! When Mels 86 yr old Mum passes away we are now seriously thinking of fucking off and living on a small Caribbean Island -
Fair Wear n Tear..... How do you define it ?
Dave2302 replied to Arfur Dealy's topic in General Dealer Chat
Yes, because it all comes down to money, most of the cheap cars get bought by those who cannot afford to look after them, and invariably get into debt by buying them !!. These folks are by and large not so well educated, so they are of the mentality to shout loudest and they will get it fixed for free. The more educated and wealthier punter will just pay for a repair and move on !! A lot of generalisations there yes, but by and large it is true -

We don't build our own Cars any more so we'll still have MB's and others -

Absolutely !! Personally I couldn't give a flying fuck, but I do say joining the bloody shit in the first place was a bad move !! I don't see it will affect any of us here negatively, except the odd few who export Vehicles but ya never know, may turn out to work in their favour once sorted !! -
I found a pitch to practice! And I found a teacher too.

That is the problem with Red Tape CRA , a fair idea in principle written by a tosser with absolutely no technical knowledge, like many things in UK life. A 100,000 mile Car that uses a bit of Oil, well it's not a new Car, so what ? As long as it passes an Emission Test, but any one without technical knowledge of a Car, (= most folks), would probably find it unacceptable ................. pfffffffffffff ..................... I dunno -
Exactly these
-
All this is so commonplace plus ................... "I can only bring it in when I finish at 8pm because I need it for work" ........................ Yeah jog on pal try the Bus / Hire a Car !!

Please don't stop recounting the stories Lucas, it is like James Bush's Customer Stories = Bloody Good Entertainment To the doubting Thomas's ............ Guys, I do truly believe Lucas ............... No - one, (not even a Coronation Emmerdallas East End script writer), could make some of this shit up I often don't have time to recount some of my own motor trade stories over the many years, but yep, they are all true -

Imagine all the water everywhere and the scuffy punters with wet shoes getting in and out of your freshly valeted stock, no intention of buying, just wasting time while they are waiting for their valet............... Wasting your time and theirs Recipe for a PITA IMHO

Used to Rally a 1293 cc Cooper S and Autocross an ultra ligtened 970 S (super cammy little screamer)
-
Except for the S/C and Turbo bit they are just like the original Cooper S then

Thanks for the heads up, this is the only one I've seen up here Funny you should say that, I did wonder, will give 'em all a thorough exam and replace if neccessary when I strip it, can also send Bearings back for credit if they aren't needed, my money is in the stripping and parts %-age, so if I don't have to press a bearing I'd rather not anyways lol /\ /\ /\ LIKE
