Do ya know what, knowing what I have now heard from you, and having now seen pics I'd have fitted a good s/h wing and bumper on that and really gone for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ -

Exactly !! -
There is no substitute for "Mechanical Security" Strong Concreted in thick steel Posts, very strong hinges and gates, all welded construction, and add even more very very very strong locking mechanisms .......................... The more "Fort Knoxed Up" you are the more likely the tea-leaf will fuck off somewhere else that is less hassle for him. Thankfully I don't have that problem since I moved here, no need to lock fuck all up ...................... There is only 1 road outta here to go South and easy to Road Block .............. Our local Cops would love that, a bit more excitement than a few un conscious old drunks collapsed on the side of the road on a Saturday night .

I'm not in that much of a hurry, I'll not be doing the conversion until the end of this year, if I was desperate I'd go and kick them in the nuts with a very low bid I'd want that old W220 for £400 absolute max and that's only because it's relatively close to me to go collect it, like 300 mile ish round trip One will come along at the right price at some point this year An old CL 500 (C215) with buggered ABC Suspension would be ideal and ought to be silly cheap, Dronsfields generally pay around £2 - 300 for this sort of old shite, like I say, all I want is Engine Trans and Diff, plus some wiring and a couple of modules, has to be around 2000 - 2003 depending on exact model, then I can set it all up to talk to the SLK's CAN bus etc Bolting and plumbing it all in is a breeze as my Car is a V6, same engine just minus 2 cylinders and gob loads more torque with the 5.0 V8

Same here, still no "LIKE"

LOL, it's an Android, Power off and On, (either Ign Switch or use Power Button top left) and it re boots OK Nick, I'll try and do the Maths on here but I didn't really Document it or log the many hours, and it has been done over around an 8 week period, few hours here and there, then slap seats back in etc to move Car out etc etc. Also this is the first one I've done in a Roadster, the H/U was designed for Pre Facelift C Class / CLK, so a lot of sodding around and fabrication to get it all to fit as nice as it does. I'd imagine most Roadsters with tin top are similar in the construction of that Rear Bulkhead and Fuel Tank location, plus the folding tops mechanisms make it harder for any Cables to be run, like the Rev Cam for example, so here's a rough "Retail Price" Guesstimate, there's a rough 40% mark up on the parts, and obviously the labour cost me feck all as it's my own project Car Head Unit £400 TPMS, DAB, USB Sockets, Reverse Camera etc £75 Active Sub £200 4 decent Mid Range Component Speakers (separate tweeters) so 8 speakers in total £200 Cables, Connectors etc £30 Hours, hmm, a very rough guess if I had to do another, (remember more hours would have been done on this one of mine as a lot of it was exploring to see exactly what would fit here and there, how to mount stuff nicely etc ................ Centre Console and H/U mods to make it all fit 4 hrs Reverse Camera install, (strip all trims / carpets out of Boot, partial rear Bumper removal, Seats & Console and Dash Panel removal, Carpet lift inside Car) 3 hrs Install Console with H/U, add wires where necessary and install Console / H/U 2 hrs Install Active Sub and USB in Console 1 hr Install Rear Component Speakers 2 hrs Door Trims off, slight mods to plastic Speaker Enclosures, Install front Speakers 2 hrs So I'm guessing around £1750 parts and labour if I had to do one for a bunter. I know there are ICE companies out there who would do it cheaper, but for a start they wouldn't have done all the mods I did for "Factory Look", at best they'd have used a double DIN H/U and made an MDF Panel for the area between Heater Controls and Switch Panel. Having seen the job that the P.O paid a firm in Doncaster £300 to install the Pioneer Hands Free phone Single DIN CD Player, well lets just add them to my list of "yee ha, tonto's" ..................Half the Dash screws left out, clips broken on pillar trims, wiring trapped here and there, crimper connectors, scotch locks etc etc And I'm yet to install the Retro looking C Class Steering Wheel to get Vol + / - , Track / Station Change , and Call Answer / Hang Up control on the Steering Wheel, that will be done sometime next few months when I've worked out exactly how to get it talking over CAN Bus, and exactly which Sub Looms etc I need to buy, modify and install in the Steering Column area

If you didn't sell cars what would you be doing?
Dave2302 replied to ExCouncilJobsworth's topic in General Dealer Chat
Ditto, I've been like that since I got Divorced at 40, do as little as I can now for as much as possible, and do what I want when I want -

Dave2302 replied to ExCouncilJobsworth's topic in General Dealer Chat
Exactly this, don't be a busy fool, sell less with bigger margins A bonus to this is even if you get a Car that comes back for a big repair you are very unlikely to lose any money on it -
That's it all finished for now, the Active Sub is now fitted properly, system sounds amazing All that's left to do now is fit a Retro looking C Class Coupe Steering Wheel so I can get Steering Wheel Buttons on this Car which will then control Volume, Track / Station Change and Call Answer / Hang up. That will require sourcing a few more parts, like a suitable Airbag Clockspring with more cores and doing some research into the CAN protocols on this particular car, so it'll happen later down the line. Just finished putting all the Interior back together now, so we can start using the Car Helluva lot of work went into re manufacturing a spare Centre Console to get the much larger Android to fit (larger than the single DIN OE Unit), and look like the Car came from the factory with it. This entailed doing away with the Ashtray etc and cutting and relocating the C/F switch panel lower down The twin USB Socket in the Cubby Box is Data Transfer and a Charging point. Phone now auto Bluetooths upon entering and starting the Car, and with a USB Data SIM Dongle it receives good 4G Internet. SD Card holds up to 32GB of my music on it, also has AM / FM / DAB, DVD Player plus NAVI, TPMS and Reverse Camera and WiFi too pix:-

Judging by the other old shitter there with the bonnet up I'd say they are plastic traders on the Sausage Roll dealing from a local Car park I'll see if I can find one around these parts with my V8 Auto in it, and with a nice Anthracite or Grey Interior, which will be absolutely no use to me ................. Yeah, be a good bit of sport, I'll bet if you do it up nice it'll fetch good money
-
I don't know if this is a location thing, but as soon as the sun is shining I'd get £4k for that Car all day long, probably spend around a monkey on it getting it up to scratch I sold an Obsidian Black 5.0 one last May to a local fella, for £5950
-
Absolutely agree, I have to do this with new customers on a daily basis at the moment, I'm now in the 3rd year of opening up my Workshop to the public and just getting busier and busier
-
LOL, not up here they wouldn't cos they'd have gone in my bin as soon as I got 'em off lol !! Cheers, think I'll buy a set, probably a good way to invoke the law of sod and never need 'em again
-
Ouch !! If I were you I'd repair it, use it this summer and sell it around end July / early August, i'm guessing a Battery, plus used Door Lock, maybe a PSE Pump, bit of Paint and I would expect it to make good money with a bit of TLC Don't remember going to Bed let alone in a Hot Tub

Ahh, no sorry, that's no good to me ............ The V6 320 is what my SLK has in it now, but I'm going to install a V8 5.0 litre, shame it would have been ideal I'm going to take SLK off the road at the end of our summer, around November and do the conversion, so I'm starting to look for a suitable donor to strip down and get all the bits ready Your CLK will probably be fairly easy repairs if you fancy smoking it in the Summer, that's why I bought the SLK, bit of summer fun for us ................... I'm just finishing off the last bit of the SLK's Android Head Unit Install today,, basically putting all the interior back together after installing a Dual USB Data Socket in the Console Cubby Box and an Active Sub Woofer on the Rear Bulkhead in the car yesterday Sounds amazing now The V6's aren't too bad on Fuel if you don't drive it nailed all the time, I drove mine back from Redcar when I bought it in December, and although I was nailing it it did around 300 miles on a tank full. Progress is painfully slow today, it was my birthday yesterday and Mel did the driving, started in Kyle at 4pm so mother of all hang overs today as I abused the privilege and got totally shit faced before munching a mixed Bhuna Vindaloo at around 11pm

Hi Mark, Is it a 5.0 or 4.3 ?? I really need a 5.0 and must be V8 and Auto 'cos a V12 simply won't go in my R170 SLK's Engine bay ................ And of course the burning £'s question you can pm me that if you want BTW what area are you ??
-
Yeah, I agree with you .................... I see they sell spare "Blades" by the bucket load though How often do you have to change them IRL, are they 'use once' or do they last for ages if you're not using them like a Gorilla every day ?
-
That smacks to me that it would put customers right off ................ Sort of like saying you are expecting the Car to go wrong Also don't forget they only read a handful of Engine Codes, it will cause all manner of confusion and frustration when it comes back with "No Codes" , or one or 2 codes but not the one that is actually putting the light on. Personally I think you'd be better off putting the 8 - 10 squids per car sold in a "pot" and paying to get them recovered if billy doesn't want to drive it to ya And also a lot of cars these days can have a code, but there is no problem, for example, you read the Car on your Snap On etc and it gives a code, but then you hook it up to SDS, or other relevant dealer kit, up comes the same Code but there is other text saying ignore if blah blah xyz is not fitted etc etc ............. Minefield IMHO
-
I have a set of different reverse threaded hammer ons, but yep, when they dont work, out comes a bit of Rebar, the Stillsons and the Welder, the less recessed they are the less likely I am to damage the Wheel Paint, loads of Masking Tape and a wet cloth, weld quick then stop the masking from going alight with wet cloth, usually get 'em first go now, I grind the end of the rebar to a point so you get a good weld. Those in the above pic look like they are fairly well recessed, I'd be expecting a wheel refurb, and if I get 'em without burning, bonus !! I like the look of that kit, might give it a go, is it very dear ? HTH

I'm looking for an M113 5.0 V8 Merc Engine Gearbox Wiring and ECU plus some other bitties, so want a cheap Donor Car to break up .................... This is how not to photo a Car if you wanna sell it ....................... https://www.gumtree.com/p/mercedes-benz/mercedes-s500/1328460728 Council Estate, and better than that, they blacked out their faces Way too dear for me lol, but even if it wasn't I don't think I'd bother

It's like a diagnostic machine, no one kit does all, believe me I hate the fuckers with a passion, but have never failed to remove one successfully and I don't damage the wheels.

Dave2302 replied to Dave Brown's topic in General Dealer Chat
Exactly my philosophy, absolutely steal it, then max it to the max Old shit will give you nothing but grief, and that includes Workshop customers Cars as well, 17 Cars repaired through my Workshop last week, and what's still here ................ Crappy old VW which isn't that complex compared to 10 plate upwards stuff, it has had multiple faults repaired, but still has one left that stubbornly refuses to be fixed Old shit is just that, old shit !! It will bite your arse whether you are selling or repairing it- 19 replies

I got it ......................... It went bang whilst she was driving it flat out down the "Mulsanne Straight" on a "Track Day Holiday" her Dad bought her for her 18th Birthday to improve her driving skills whilst being trained in her own Car by Jeremy Clarkson ??????????????
