Are we going to have to refund this customer?
Mark101 replied to GenghasBANG's topic in General Dealer Chat
Thank you for letting us know Sir, I do understand as many people now opt for an automatic gearbox. We have two options for you 1) We will refund you straight away and thank you for considering us or 2) We hold on to your deposit and find you a more suitable car within the next 7 days. Eveything else, all the other benefits we discussed will remain. What would you like us to do Sir? -
Anyone know why they don't do appraisals on vans? - I like a van and always do well but often there is nothing on the report beyond the axle configuration.

You might have to learn that in sign language though.

Help with private plate swap please
Mark101 replied to Blenheim Car Sales's topic in General Dealer Chat
You could always change the address on the V5 to yours first, then any further docs will land on your door step (including the old and new reg) -
I have just taxed my wanker tank up (£555) and from now on, that is what the Disco will be referred to as. Brilliant

Nice one David - I put my prices up at least if not more often than down = reassuringly expensive and all that = proper punters not bargain hunters

I guess an iPhone using portrait mode - it does hi-res on the subject and the rest blurs out.

You sell em that quick Mark? I have no issue sitting on a car for up to 6 months. Providing at least 8 sell a month, I couldn't care whether I have sold them before I have collected them or whether I have had them for ever - it's the same to me. Again, I know many disagree but I WILL NOT give cars away unless that is on my terms and they are beyond economical repair. There's always that one person - time to turn was only an issue to me when I only stocked a handful. I see no point in throwing out a perfectly good car to risk buying another and go through all the prep and anxiety as to whether it will be a good un just to turn the stock.

I would lose the angled pictures, not sure why you've done that and lose the band D tax (one because I have no idea what that means, so a punter won't) I think it just the fact it is a diesel and not a particularly desirable car, pictures look ok to me. In my opinion (others vary), I don't think whether you write a list of bullet points (as I now do) or war and peace has any bearing but I am certain people are more likely to bother to read my highlights vs. a novel (again, just my opinion). Only 59,000 miles Full Service History + fresh service for new owner 2 Former Keeprs 12 Months MOT + Full PDI Bluetooth Handfree Climate Control Blah Blah Blah 2 New Tyres 4 New Overmats PX Welcome Please call etc That's my way but I'm not always right (I know two people for sure whom will disagree strongly )

I’ve been in talks with my local Landlord (pub) about me buying his car. It’s taken weeks to get him to talk openly (I suspect as last finance payment expired in April and now he can do something). Anyway, I haven’t seen it because I didn’t show up last week and he didn’t bring it the other weeks. All I knew was it is a Freelander and the reg. HPI as usual, it’s an S with almost 100k manual on an 08 plate. I have £3600 in mind (WBAC £3100). I say what do you want, to which I fell over at £6,500 (top book he says) but 8 can have it for £5,500. I am bored of valuing PX’s - expecting retail for theirs and trade for mine.

Surecheck - Suresh*t??? (A few issues here)
Mark101 replied to premi-motor's topic in General Dealer Chat
I need more days in my week too -
I consider it fair game (I am a trader and expect to be had over by some buyers) and I will always take the moral high ground. I shall fix his Qashqai at my expense but I will not be able to resist mentioning the loss on the Astra PX (I hate Vauxhall). If it is too expensive, I shall offer to unwind the deal, give him his heap back, fix and resell (at a loss). My belief has and will always be the same - What goes around, comes around and over all, I will win and be appreciated by many future customers for being "one of the good guys."

I cover far more than any warranty company will. I just use A1 to administer it and they are pretty good at telling me whether someone is trying it on or not and great at located garages further afield. Now, this week I have a Qashqai with a timing belt issue (apparently it has jumped?). I have told the customer to contact A1 tomorrow and they will advise me if that is likely, possible or impossible. Either way, I am on the hook as it is only 2 weeks sold and I don't know of any warranty company that would cover that as the belt has not been changed (or there is no evidence of it). It was an interseting conversation yesterday. Customer "garage reckon it will cost about £700 to fix." Me "great, a little but less than changing the turbo on the PX Astra you stuffed me with" Customer "I honestly didn't know" Me "Of course"

Just to make you feel better. At least back then there were two mileage tax brackets, lower for high milers as the car was less of a perk and more of a requirement.

Changing a Naff Private Plate Back to Original Year Plate
Mark101 replied to MJG50's topic in General Dealer Chat
Simple. Buy the car Register it When log book comes back, place naff plate on retention - £80 You will be issued with an age related plate and new V5 (more than likely the original unless they sold it) MOT and TAX update automatically relevant to whatever the last log book says. Stick naff plate on eBay or simply le5 the retention expire. -
Go ltd - pay yourselves an allowance + mileage and buy/lease the cars personally. That’s what I would do.
-
In my experience, I have dropped no more balls online vs. physical but that may just be a consequence of learning what to buy and what not to buy as I gather more experience.
-
Personally, I wish all auctions were online only. It is how I buy but I do understand, those who attend do have an advantage. If nothing else, no Online fee. In my opinion, there should be a charge to attend physically and free Online if they want to encourage more ebidding.

Just for you TV - come and work for me, I will even match that wage

New injector cured supposed head gasket problem?
Mark101 replied to MJG50's topic in General Dealer Chat
I think that 1.4 Pug unit is prone to HG issues mind. You're right though, I haven't heard of a head gasket go for a long while (queue the jinx). Rover going put a stop to that. -
New injector cured supposed head gasket problem?
Mark101 replied to MJG50's topic in General Dealer Chat
Back when I owned a workshop (I'm not technical but employed mechanics). We had a head gasket tester, you screwed the contraption on to the radiator or expansion tank and it would change colour (I guess from sniffing CO). Is this still a thing? Popular thing that tool was, back in the Rover days -
Registering Sales Car in Own Name / Gap in Road Tax
Mark101 replied to MJG50's topic in General Dealer Chat
You normally just have to declare that the vehicle has not been used on a public highway during the period of no tax. That said, I have never done what you're trying to do - only from SORN -
Yes, well spotted
