Does nobody "work" with a customer anymore and fix the cars instead?
-
It depends upon what she looks like That seems quite reasonable for Valve stem seals Get the car back ASAP and get your own diagnosis.... Even with a local bmw specialist.
-
I was maybe a little harsh... ill help anyone that genuinely tries to help themselves first..... The valves can be picked up for under £20 on ebay!

What is a low oil level? anything under the max mark i guess? I'm always interested in how much oil it should take and how much it takes to get to the maximum mark. As NOACROSS asked.... PDI? Was the oil on its correct level when it left you?
-
Why are you helping somebody that cant help themselves...? A simple code lookup on google brings up a video on how to fix it...... We get several head scratchers that we cant google cos they are fresh on a 3 year old car that even the dealers havent seen yet ......
-
Have you googled the code?

I wouldn’t dream of sending a car for an mot without any valve caps fitted

The smoke that was coming out of the underneath was quite impressive! I heard it for about a week and then i didn't hear it again after that.

I remember last year doing the school run and I heard a 1.9 golf that had thrown a leg out of bed still being driven!
-
I’ve got a few of their finest I wish would go up in flames in that case!

Manufacturers will dress it up as weight saving in order to meet new euro emissions standards. I put it down to them being penny pinching bastards when assembling the engine.

It’s a right old pain in the arse this job. we have had 6 snapped chains on those N47 engined BMW’s, at all different mileages. Speed of the engine and the car is your friend in these engines. How did it snap? At start up? = chain plus rockers On motorway at 70 mph? = Pistons, rods, valves, camshafts, camshaft carrier, timing case cover, sump, Plus above. Its not that evil a job. But a routinely changed timing belt is always easier

I was going to ask what interest he/she has in the motor trade. (If any)
-
Motors was a waste of time IMHO, I pursued them for my money back, didn't get anywhere. If Ebay/Gumtree feel that his move makes them better...... i think they are in for a surprise.

As Tradex, said, we have all been there. Dont just blow them away for pennies, try and fight them out i reckon. The gearbox one especially... can we have a bit more background, why was the engine changed? Was it to fix this fault? -
Hi David Not really a very helpful reply, if you cant fix it yourself, don't bother with the non runners. We buy the odd one, unless you nick them it aint worth the while. Especially when it comes to major engine work, nobody wants this work anymore as it takes far longer than anyone wishes to pay for to do the job properly.

This will be a different engine i think, this one is the M9R timing chain engine with the injectors that weld themselves in solid.

The auto box, i would just find a good auto gearbox specialist and put your faith in them. With the engine, Just get the engine code from it, then search ebay you will find it goes in other VAG cars. I use a local VW breaker (Veedubs) little pricey but they always have the right parts. -

We had a local sparky kill a Jeep that we had sold to a local guy, It had a simple wiper fault which he power probed to death and it ended up at our local Merc dealer with a £4k bill from memory. We had to get a airbag squib from Greece earlier this year in order to save £300!

But they are both VW, VW is a manufacturer of quality products -
Just a quick calculation 6 members of staff @ £50 per day x 5 day week = £1500 per week! Bloody nice wage like if you have free time your extremely lucky! So if you worked a full week at £200 per day that would total £2500 per week. If you had some contract work during shut downs on weekends ££££££ more money. I wouldn't bother with cars if i were you! Are you on a Electricians forum? I'm thinking about sacking off this shite and joining you guys?
