Beware, what is in it for the Autotrader? Do you get the same amount of liability? How long is the price fixed for? Ive just got my bill for February and they have over charged me for the additional adverts! I only requested an additional 10 cars and they have billed me for 20!

It is hard to bear sometimes, I guess everyone has differences in opinions. i usually find that when they list poor previous, it’s actually better than the paintwork we get done! Most of the time it’s for an off the gun finish and needs a bit of a mop and polish. Have you thought about using a physical buyer? There is a few about that will charge you the same as the online fee.

I buy pretty much everything online from BCA. Its standard practice for them to confirm the sale afterwards, they always take my name (even when they know full well who it is) and confirm payment method, and when we are going to collect it. I always like to amuse them and cheer them up, rather than speak to them like dirt.

It was probably a cut and paste email. Some of the staff at bca are on zero hour contracts on minimum wage. I find it’s better to be nice to those people, however the hierarchy... you can lay into them.

I’m guessing he didn’t want pupils drawing body parts on his “best” car -

Arfur, you can’t sell it yet.... it has too much fuel in it! -

Arfur, those lupo have a following. Price it high. Some sad spotty geek will be creaming himself silly to lower it and stick some tiny wheels on it. -
Free, most auction houses remove them for their main agent customers

Bit harsh nick! Evap systems on petrol cars do need to be air tight. However experience tells me it’s not likely to be the fault on this engine.

These vag cars are proper shit. We have had two 14 plate low milers that have been a load of crap this week! And when I say low I’m mean 14k and 17k! I’m not sure I want a vag car to go further than 50 miles from us these days.

Hi pip, I’m struggling to write a reply that doesn’t sound sarcastic. Have you asked your insurance provider/broker? Ps. If your a limited company and use a car for personal use, there is a benefit in kind.

Hi Dave, the kit cost me £100 a long time ago, it’s probably £200 now. The blades can be re used, I get about 3 sets off with one side of the blade. Overtightened ones always need a fresh blade. The good thing is with this kit and the mcgard style nuts/bolts are removed without any damage, so if the punter has their key in the kitchen drawer they can be refitted. It’s does the pug/Citroen, it damages the nut/bolt and can’t be reused. They bring out new blades for new locknuts too.

The dynomec kit would have them off in 10 mins. No damage to the wheel.

If you didn't sell cars what would you be doing?

I was talking with a garage owner the other week that has just had his best guy leave, he offered him £40k to stay and he still left. Now £40k in the north east is a bloody good wage! Supposedly he wasn’t that good either! -
The dynomec works well on the mcgard ones Dave, I find you have to use a big lump hammer and the impact driver that comes with the kit and persist with it. I have a plasma cutter coming, I wonder if it will work on locknuts.

Your welcome, I was talking to a local trader friend the other week and he pretty much summed this job up, He was talking about getting “chinned” by everybody (“chinned” is a local word meaning getting punched) So he goes to auction and gets “chinned” by everyone to just buy a car, then the auction “chins” him, he then jumps in the car and find out it’s got a fault not seen in the auction so he gets “chinned” again by his garage, then autotrader “chins” him, then eventually a customer turns up and try’s to “chin” him but he doesn’t let him .... however the customers part exchange car does get to “chin” him Then he goes home and his wife “chins” him for not bringing enough money home! As scottish Dave says, whatever you expect your overheads to be... double them and see if it will still work.

CDX 2019: Details of two key workshops revealed!
Stalker replied to Dave Brown's topic in General Dealer Chat
Perhaps he’s giving a workshop on how not to get into excessive debt? It wont be anything like a workshop on how to calm a screamer when one of Germany’s finest craps it’s pants- 19 replies

EPV.... I’d have thought you of all people would have liked my optimistic reply.... you constantly complain about the negative grumpy pessimistic replies on this forum. I agree, however he’s ignorant to the fact that all of the profit in this job is in the buying.... not the selling.

Nick, have you ever sent food back in a restaurant? Do you know what the chef does when you do? your stock will currently be getting Doughnut-Ed in a supermarket carpark!
-
Too right, there is money in anything different. It just sometimes takes more patience and some guts in the first place. Sometimes the ice cream machines inside them are worth more than the van itself!
-
That’s because arfur the main dealers can’t make any money out of these jobs, and their techs can’t do brake pipes as it involves a little fabrication of parts.

Come on Justin, how many of these start up threads do we get. And they all ask the same thing. What they really want to hear is that it’s easy and you can become a millionaire instantly.
-
Ignore this lot, you will be a millionaire by Easter.... crack on.
