  1. today i received a reply to the question can all car dealerships open not just showrooms, i hope you find the following helpfull = Dear Sir/Madam Thank you for your email of 27th May about car dealers. I am replying on behalf of the Department. A full list of which businesses which were closed was set out in guidance. This included car showrooms. These have been allowed to open from 1st June: https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/pm-press-conference-statement-25-may-2020. Until this point car dealers were allowed to open on-line with contactless delivery. As I hope you will appreciate, it is for business owners themselves with their comprehensive understanding of the goods and services that they provide and having reviewed the criteria, to determine whether or not they should remain closed We have published guidance on the general principles and how social distancing can be implemented in the workplace, as well as advice for customer facing businesses and for specific sectors who require people to go to work, including shops running delivery services. The information can be found at: www.gov.uk/guidance/social-distancing-in-the-workplace-during-coronavirus-covid-19-sector-guidance. If you have any further Covid-19 enquiries, our Business Support webpage is updated on a daily basis with the latest information and guidance: www.businesssupport.gov.uk/, and a business support finder is available here:https://www.gov.uk/business-coronavirus-support-finder. We also have a free helpline available where businesses can talk to an advisor: 0800 998 1098. We would encourage you and your office to avail itself of this service or direct constituents to it as these are the quickest routes for obtaining answers. I hope you find this response helpful.
  2. Well trevor finn of course Look up his current business and then look at Tom Hartleys (Clue, derby ) then the chat with the new new man in town could be very interesting
  3. Well another great car dealer live ! Cazoo watch out
  4. As we are unclear and the press are quoting car dealerships in the same paragraph as car showrooms I have gone to the very top in government and asked the question.
  5. Told you, it's a new world aldi has got traffic lights ! red, no entry amber get the wheels spinning on your trolley, green go !
  6. All businesses have to limit customers from the local paper shop to IKEA, it's the new world we will have to get used to unfortunately Well anyone can walk in and buy so yes? Well the new guidance is quite clear and comprehensive, as was the old, who can open, when they can open, and how to run a business that complies with the regulations, if he does not know this or studied the latest guidance should he be running the company?
  7. Auctions are open 15th June, with all the obvious restrictions, discouraging touching stock (no bonnet lifting no door opening ?) Amount of people allowed in dependant on floor space minus the floor space a vehicle takes up, no doubt the cafe will be takeaway only, marshalls to stop rule breaking and control in/out customers, so have fun balancing a pot of tea in one hand keeping 2 metres from jo public, not being allowed to look under bonnet but there is one good thing with the distancing, you can see who is bidding against you ? That's if you can get in to begin with "SORRY MATE WE ARE FULL"
  8. If the pissing press (bbc and sky news), stopped banging on about this Cummings malarkey and concentrated on the biggest news this year that small retailers up and down the country can go back and earn some money then everything would be clearer, for the general public ! Question, you can open a car showroom yes? But if you are a car dealer you cannot go in ?
  9. Yes and no, from the purchasers point of view, would they click n collect a used car, my opinion is no, and, i believe the view of many other "used" car dealers think similar, a new car yes, but a used car is a whole different ball game, as for other people not closing, they are putting every one at risk, and they are taking proper law abiding traders food from there table.
  10. and yet boris by opening garden centres and outdoor markets says your less likely to catch the virus, well er, hellow boris what about open car sites ?
  11. As i say, that is exactly as i read it ! clear as mud again ! can WE SELL CARS OR NOT BORIS ? Sorry but you're wrong, click n collect was only allowed by the government guidance at car dealers from 13 may on..........not before .
  12. well i love him anyway a true character, getting few and far between nowadays
  13. nope, sorry, i hate to be the stickler? for this, but it is car showrooms that have been given the green light, car dealerships, are classed as "shops and branches" as also are auction houses "shops and branches" none essential so 15th june, one for LAWGISTICS i beleive ! once again, clear as mud government have released a very informative piece tonight , go to bbc news and click the link to "new guidance has been published" tells you all about test drives and some very good information for car dealerships .
  14. boris at 17.10 on the government briefing = "we will set out what moving to step two means for other areas such as none essential retail and more social contact other the next week"
  15. Having read the governments "our plan to rebuild" i see it as 4th july earliest, i think a lot of people are reading into the restrictions and think it applies to them, it does not, lets look at car showrooms, particularly picked out as well as car auctions to be closed to visitors . do you actually run a car showroom ? or do you do car sales [ a none essential business ? ] car showrooms if run properly can easily abide to the rules although, as i have said earlier on in the month if you restrict the amount of customers in, and that customer spends a hour or two with you, how many actual customers can you get in a day, compared to lets say a supermarket? so, bottom line, will you make money? this bit from the governments "plan to rebuild" =● Opening non-essential retail when and where it is safe to do so, and subject to those retailers being able to follow the new COVID-19 Secure guidelines. The intention is for this to happen in phases from 1 June; the Government will issue further guidance shortly on the approach that will be taken to phasing, including which businesses will be covered in each phase and the timeframes involved. All other sectors that are currently closed, including hospitality and personal care, are not able to re-open at this point because the risk of transmission in these environments is higher. The opening of such sectors is likely to take place in phases during step three, as set out below. as you see, the word, phases, can a physical car auction follow the covid 19 guidelines ? no, can a indoor car warehouse, full of cars abide ? mmmm, make your own mind up, can a used car forecourt with doors locked and constantly being cleaned abide ? mmmm from what i understand, and do not quote me on this, they are meeting right now, and letting us know monday [thursday ? ] which can open, and which is to stay close "phasing"
  16. nice to see a mp has added his concerns in a open letter to the business secretary [ tim finn]
  17. Wow, just wow, best ever ? legend, really enjoyed that thanks james thanks tom
  18. i gave up worrying about "schemes" years ago, in all my years i have learn to adapt, to any scenario, on the front line, the complete journey from initial purchase right through to removing the sale board and shaking the customers hand, if the scheme does not come in, then it very possibly be a very good thing, there are too many car dealers having it easy, bloated and looking through there glass window, a clean sweep will get rid of them. i believe you are trying to button hole me as a facebook trader, and i find that quite offensive to be honest, it seems on here lately that you put a opinion and give your years of experience and get knocked for it, why do i bother ?
  19. when you help one dealer with a scheme [scrappage] you remove supply from another, it is well documented that many good cars with plenty of life left [ and classics] were needlessly crushed, remember these cars could not be resold, that was the rule. bear in mind that the used car dealer, not only looses the opportunity to purchase a so called "scrap" car, he also looses a used car customer to one who reckons he may as well buy new. i take you back to the original scrappage scheme, hyundai i10 was £7000 base out the door, put your old car in and it was £4995, for a brand new long warranted car, £2000 scrappage if you remember [ correct me if my figures are wrong ] ! everything has a cost, and someone has to pay, and introducing a scrappage scheme is not helping the whole "car dealers".
  20. it,s scandalous ! i have just also read that there is no "either / or " choice ! in other words if the self eiss is claimable, and you have not claimed it then your still not allowed to claim ? as of todays date i have wrote to the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy i have made them aware of my concerns that this scheme only applies to less than 5% of self employed and asked them for a rethink, if you wish to write too here is the link https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/department-for-business-energy-and-industrial-strategy
  21. james, in your very recent article= https://cardealermagazine.co.uk/publish/small-businesses-missed-10k-government-grants-may-get-cash-june/192558 thanks for the update incidentally, it states that, and i quote = " They must also not have received any other government grants – including the help announced for self-employed people" Well please correct me if i am wrong but the self employed income support scheme that went live this week with many millions making the claim is, described as a grant ! Have the self employed people who have not got the help with the original rates grant been deceived ? I think i read that 95% of self employed can claim the self employment income support scheme
  22. I don,t think its quite so clear cut If a customer walks into a estate agent, and the sign on the door says no more than 2 customers at a time, how much time would a average customer spend in the shop ? if the same customer walked into a car showroom, and was buying, or browsing, how long would they spend in there ? [ longer?] so if, the car showroom, could obviously let more people in, because they are bigger, so the car dealer would, in my opinion, have less customers per day than the estate agent ? if the government determines that they are worried that test drives cannot be fully safely carried out, and they consider that test drives are part of the sales process, then we could be put with hairdressers, july 4th at the earliest ? having read up on what estate agents have to do on viewing, it is really not that easy.
