I may be wrong but the way I would do it if I was outsourcing repairs and paintwork.Take your latest set of annual accounts and divide the cost of sales with no of cars retailed and you may be in for a shock. So if it is a grand per car ( it’s probably more ) you have to generate 1200 profit when you allow for VAT to calculate the cost of the average sale.I think Mark does repairs in-house so hopefully his costs will be less.

When at the block I sometimes see total pigs getting knocked down to the Internet for decent money & think sarcastically ‘that’ll be a nice surprise for the buyer’. A couple of times recently I’ve dipped my toe into the chilly waters of online bidding. To summarise, it’s just as well I have a painter & mechanic who work for next to f.a.

Thought it would be interesting to find out what everyone pays for their prep costs, I’ll list my basic ones as follows; Mechanical repairs £35+vat per hour Mot’s: £25 Wheel refurb full car (powdercoated) giving them the car £200 inc vat Diamond cut refurb giving them the car £360 inc vat Valeting: in house Paintwork: £100 a panel on average

Evening All I registered with BCA earlier this year, got a silver card, but never went any further and I've lost the login details they gave me. I'm going to show my face a Blackbushe tomorrow as my usual sources are dead, but I'm not expecting any bargains. Couple of things I wondered if you could help me with: How many lanes are there at Blackbushe? Any ideas what the silver card fees are on the 5-10k stuff? Any advice would be great. Cheers 15

Mate if you can get a mechanic to not only do all that in on day, without a ramp, for £20 an hour, you’re the envy of many I suspect. I don’t know where you’re based but assuming it’s not very north that is about right. Especially for a local rural garage with overheads etc.

Id say about £800 all in in give or take well at garage labour rates thats probably trade prices mark the garage will have a mark up on parts also i pay 14 pound a gallon of good 5w30 and the golfs probably on long life oil

Have you been drinking? £240 belt £270 shocks £200 brakes £150 service, PDI and ticket Give or take £100. Heavily location dependent of course.

I’d say about 8 hours labour discounting it from 10 as there’s a good bit of work in it so that would be £280+vat plus the cost of parts which would be circa £300?

Ask them to speak to a rep or manager tell him you will be buying from there often and they will normally start you off on a gold card

Agree about the MOT's. I know it's grim up norf but blimey, how many MOT's do you guys have to do a week to get them at £25?
  17. 1 point
You won't find an indie around where we are doing MOTs for less than £40 and labour is £50/60 upwards + VAT. I don't really mind the hourly if it's to someone capable. It's all a bit meaningless IMO because living costs/operating costs vary so much around the UK, screen prices vary to a lesser degree but a £2995 Corsa in Birmingham can still be £3495 in the South East.

Yes everything was green on the mechanical report. I had an A3 a while back 14 plate noise on the engine and the door had a huge scratch down it. They took it back but that was when we were on a black card so that may have helped. I suppose we will just have to wait an see. Should get a call tomorrow.

Which BCA are you generally at? Could take a look at some cars for me
  20. 1 point
One guy in Notts BCA doesn't even look at them properly , just wanders round noting a few things down , I wouldn't pay him in bent washers . All this appraisal looks good on paper or when they all talk about ,it but in reality how can it work . They can only use set phrases to describe what they see if they look in the first place .

Well the 1 series, the pulley is jumping, the engines squeaking away and theres now an oil like. Im never touching an Alphabet car again and I am rejecting the vehicle They have to pay you out or take the vehicle back as its misdescribed If I keep this now ill have it back with me in a week when I sell it .

Although I do the repairs in house it is a separate business entity so company a bills company b etc. Accountants advised me it was the best way to go with things.
