M5Cars 1 Posted March 25, 2018 Hi All, I am looking for some flexible storage for excess stock, I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations of where to start looking? Being from Somerset I was thinking farmers with space in a yard/field or a pub with a large car park. Need to store 5 - 10 cars - any guide as to what I should expect to pay? Thanks Stu

Thanks Stu I once used a private tennis club car park for a few extra cars.It was secure with CCTV in a good residential area.It was a long time ago and they were delighted to take £200 from me for a 12 month deal.( sports clubs are usually short of money).Today it would probably be a grand but worth it. MrC 142 Posted March 25, 2018 I used to leave some car up at a local farm £60 a month for 5-6 cars
AutoJacob 34 Posted March 25, 2018 I've tried to find some similar space on farms but they all seem to be green belt and apparently you can't store cars on green belt.. everywhere else is asking ££££.
It's me 615 Posted March 25, 2018 independent bodyshops sometimes have excess space in a corner if you have one, just make sure all cars are locked up so they dont get used as spares machines when you arent there or mobile canteens for the spotty junior and his large mac

Thanks Stu Stu, We pay £350 per month for lit/powered, barn storage, we can comfortably get 6 in, but can cram 8 at a push if we really wanted too.
Mark101 536 Posted March 26, 2018 I cannot believe that you can get "done" for not being taxed in a pub car park (providing it was taxed or on trade plates to get there). All we hear about is how under resourced the Police are nowadays, so why would they bother with such petty "crime." I would hope that most "officials" would appreciate that someone is just trying to make an honest living.

Serious crime is on the up and online crime is much more important it seems. As we all know the police love to target a motorist so i’d not be so confident that the police would be too busy to make an easy nick.
justina3 518 Posted March 26, 2018 All depends on what they have a surge on, for example when its drink drive season thats all you will find is people being pulled for that, seat belts tax there all pr exercises designed to make the public feel safe. umesh 336 Posted March 26, 2018 Friend of mine used to use pub car park across the road from his business, land lord was OK with the arrangements but cars got clamped 'no tax' !
NOACROSS 414 Posted March 26, 2018 I'm sure the police have better things to do. When a load of cars got clamped near us for no tax, it was the DVLA, not the Police. I park a couple in the local occasionally, but so far it's been OK. Been doing it years. However, there's always something that comes along in this game to kick you in the nuts. Just when you think you've cracked it, something inevitably happens!
justina3 518 Posted March 26, 2018 Must be a nice position to be in to have spare stock i can hardly fill the site quick enough let alone have any left over to worry about.

No i want the best of both worlds, I would like the cars to sell double quick and then have back up stock to slip into there place like a blink of the eye. arghh fantasy land
NOACROSS 414 Posted March 26, 2018 (edited) It’s only stuff waiting to be prepared. No matter how many painters or Valeters etc you use, they’re always busy. Or off on hols/long weekends or it’s too wet/ damp to paint or valet.... I’m sure they moan about us too.... Edited March 26, 2018 by NOACROSS

M5Cars 1 Posted June 3, 2018 Thanks all for your responses. I have found the chap at our local storage facility (think a compound with shipping containers) to be very helpful. He’s got mega security / CCTV, electronic entry system and charges £30/month per car. Possibly a little expensive but it’s handy and keeps them safe and sound! I stored some import cars on a site like that! It didn't stop the 'pikey's' breaking in and having a free for all!
