  1. We self warrant and have for over 10yrs, none of the companies are any good, everything is always put down to wear & tear! The companies refuse to cough up, then the customer will come back to you and because of legal obligation, you will end up paying for it anyway! Most customers have had first hand experience of warranty companies dismissing claims so our personal cover affects them making up their mind whether to buy from us. As someone has mentioned, there's a nice profit to be had after putting £100 in the pot on every car!
  2. I spoke to dvla a couple of years ago and they said it is illegal for the plates to be displayed in the window. You could get fines through for untaxed car or unpaid tolls on tunnels/bridges. we bought the sucker things which work really well.
  3. A new "positive" Brexit leader is now required. Until we get a more upbeat vibe, things will be very slow. Too many people are speaking out with their glass half empty rather than half full, Osbourne needs to go as we don't want him punishing the nation either!
  4. Good luck James, we shall all miss your contribution on here! Don't let Auto Traders massive annual price hike make you give up though!! lol seriously though, I am sure you are making the right decision and what a challenge!
  5. I am fed up with the dodgy auto trader emails I keep getting claiming someone is interested in our cars, never giving make, model or reg number and half a mobile number. We closed our AT account down around 2 1/2 yrs ago and it's a very Mickey Mouse way of trying to make us think people are interested in our cars but in more of a Nigerian email type of way! It's not Nigerian email but just a nuisance email that can't be unsubscribe!
  6. Yes, basically bronze covers nothing! just adds to our risk of auction buying!
  7. Exactly justina3 ! I normally only buy automatics that are assured..... That's blown that as they will worm out of most problems! If a dealer warranty didn't cover a fault on a car sold by a dealer then the dealer can still be liable under the SOG act, Different story if it's sold by auction. Funny thing is that manheim say its better peace of mind for the buyer.........what a load of ole cr@p!!!
  8. Max branning gave the best advice here! Why not have the warranty companies profit aswell? plus..... There will be a time when they have had thousands from you and won't pay that claim and you will end up footing the bill yourself as you are still liable for it! we've been doing this for years now, much better practice!
  9. Manheim have now third partied their 'manheim assured' cover away to an independent warranty company. Looking through the guide book and after a recent phone call to the company leads me to believe that this is a similar warranty to the Mickey Mouse style warranties that cover virtually nothing! Ok, the warranty they add on is only £20 to £25 depending on your spending with the auction annually but it's the extra money the car makes at the rostrum because of the 'being lured into false security' which can make the car push up another £500 !! Where we would be covered if for example if the car crunched in 2nd gear, it is now a static check done prior to auction of engaging and take up on 1st and reverse. The usual thing with warranties is now going to apply....... Age & mileage consideration.......wear & tear not covered....blah......blah.....blah...... just another example of another hazard for us and to squeeze our margins & make things more difficult for us!
  10. Sorry but I have no sympathy for the "vote stay" brigade, I voted to leave over two years ago and am free from all the bullying and dictatorship attitude! There are so many other avenues out there so move on from the brainwashing and explore, you won't regret it further down the line!!
  11. Most customers tell us they don't search autotrader anymore as its slow and the format has all changed making it more of a task!
  12. Done 17, been off autotrader 2 yrs now, most is walk ins, newspaper & Ebay classifieds really picking up. EBay did only just about be worthwhile a couple of yrs ago but coming into its own now.
  13. What's the 90 day trial deal? Is it for new customers? We did a yr with motors and wasted some money, on the plus side only wasted just over half as much we wasted with AT per month though!
  14. Can I have a pm who aswell pls? It's hard enough without people scheming things against us!!
  15. Everyone gets peaks & troughs, you can try so hard and sell nothing then a week down the line people just pour in and don't even want a test drive. So unpredictable!
  16. No real loss to us as we have done nothing from this in the months we have our stock on there!
  17. This is one reason why we get them all up on the ramp and service and check them over. can you not ask to have it back to inspect it for a day, get some additive engine stop leak, put it in, you will need to let it tick over for possibly a few hours to make it work. i had a Nissan terrano as my own car that was dripping underneath, put the additive in, ran it up for possibly 3 hrs, kept cleaning it off with brake cleaner to check it and it went bone dry for the next 2 yrs I owned it. it can't be a metal seal and must have rubber which will swell when in contact with the chemical. has worked a few times for us. just a suggestion that help.
  18. Nice and steady as usual, can't complain as this year is ticking along nicely!
  19. These are many of the reasons why I haven't bought a warranty for over ten years! If you buy carefully, your claims would be low, then you are best to have the warranty companies profit aswell as the profit from the sale of the car!!
  20. It's only what you would expect from them. Rob the dealer and have the best profit out of the cars, leaving the dealer to scrape what's left and have all the risk! oh and not forgetting to prime the person with the valuation of their p/x and so robbing us of a little bit more!!
  21. We use car dealer 5, great website and feeds other sites for plenty of coverage. Not a bad price either at £350 - ish per year, have a look! Gary
  22. Newspapers is our main source of interest, we still sell a lot to youngsters who have just passed their test. years ago we were amongst about another dozen dealers advertising in the papers, now we are one of 2 & sometimes 3. I think this has helped us to be a minority. I agree it could dwindle or change in the future but let's just enjoy it whilst it's still here and we can advertise our 40 cars for such a reasonable cost!
  23. Still don't impress me, was with them for many yrs from when they first started doing the online packages. price increases eventually became daylight robbery and totally unjustifiable! Now sliced 60% off our monthly advertising bill to do the same amount of numbers! Happy days!!!
  24. We do a hell of a lot of walk ins, but do agree with some of the comments on here where people are primed initially from other sources like web searches and papers!
  25. Just press the delete button! We get rubbish like that all the time.
