I would say that a good per centage of £8k stuff will have a swapper,so any negotiation will be with the swapper and not the selling price.Cap GUIDE is a long way out on a lot of stuff and when mid Feb comes it will be outeven more.It has always been the same whether it is Cap,Glasses or the other one ( if it is still around )which they used to flog at the old Chelmsford !

Yes, I remember that. Didn't they used to advertise in Car Auction Magazine (remember that!)

  2. Maybe it's just me being paranoid but am I the only account holder that seems to have unwanted changes made to their watchlist. I seem to regularly 'acquire' new vehicles that don't even fit my buying profile and then lose some that I do want? Today I 'acqujired' in my watchlist a 4x4 double cab?. It's hardly problem of the century but when I have a simulcast running and I hear the 'horn' to warn me a car is coming up it's sometimes not one of mine!

I'm guessing its just a glitch but it also shows big brother is watching?

I VW or 1 VW? I've seen the car if it's the latter, rudeboy blue R32, before that a GTD. Driven by one of the top brass at Inchcape probably. How the other half live eh?

Sounds like the same car, not what I'd expect top brass to drive around in unless it's 'for the wife'?

    I presume it’s a Petrol?

Whip the spark plugs out and give them a thorough checking, maybe even change them. We had one with a strange noise and it had a spark plug where the insulator tip had cracked and was rattling around and gave off a horrible tappet style noise.

The bad news is that we also had one with play in a gudgeon pin that sounded like a tappet too!

    Thanks, I'll check

  5. Personal plates usually leave me cold but I tend to notice the odd, odd one. Today I was following a high end VW Golf with the plate "I VW" and the plates were marked with Inchape Volkswagen dealership. Happy coincidence or someone that really likes Inchape VW?:D

Wasn't a BCA Peterborough one today by any chance?

If it's the VCT one they have variable timing and can have trouble with what I think are called Cam Variators - if that sounds like the problem I'll ask the mechanic exactly what he did to fix a customer's one that came in.

No not BCA. To be honest it is silent when cold but just starts ticking when fully hot. I followed it through from when they started it to in the hall and it was silent, but its down to me sadly. The 'tap' doesnt kick in until above 2k rpm but its not coming from vct units I'm sure. I can't seem to find anyone that's done this job even though these engines expect a 'shim' at 90k ish, wired?

  7. Looks like I've 'rat fucked' myself for the first time in 2018:angry:. With what I thought was a nice little 1.6 Focus '06 with good miles and history. Starts and drives fine from cold but when warm the engine is tapping like a stuck lifter. Trouble is they're solid lifters. Can anyone give me an idea of what it may cost to check/adjust the valve shims (which obviously will involve new cam belt as camshafts have to come out)? I know I am going to choke on the cost quite apart from wiping out the profit..

I havent been able to buy a decent car off there for about 3 months, Dealer Auction is just as bad although I did manage to buy a couple before Xmas. Im giving AutoTradeMail another go and bought one yesterday, just back from BCA and I might as well have stayed in bed I know prices usually rise in Jan but some of the hammer prices were ridiculous.

... same for me at Manheim Colchester last night. I understand these things are relative, and I wasn't looking at the prices of every car under the hammer but just the ones I was interested in, but I came home empty handed. Couldn't even be bothered to drive into Clacton from some chips!:D

A crime that in the main is ignored, how many times do i read " they missed the culprits" is astounding, the politicians love it, keeps trouble indoors, not on the street, cannabis is wages round here in the tumble down factories, your factory will only get broke into if they think your doing a grow, cash up front for 6 months rent, telling me the landlords dont know ? local shop is open eight till eight, a dealers open 24 hour, easier to get than a loaf of bread, politicians get honours and 38% of the kids in manchester live below the poverty line, who is really profiting ? boils my piss

I am an Authorised examiner and an MOT tester. The gas test is automated. No options pass or fail. No options. Grow up simple fix with a bit of gum gum.. get an honest good garage that will help you rather than taking your trousers down. There are plenty around. Disappoints me to hear these stories.

    Where are you based Paul?

We still buy from Birmingham,we just don’t go there.Mind ,I would not like to buy over 8 year old stuff from down there. If I was buying older stock, like small clean stuff,I would be using West Oxford ! Anyone go there.

Not for a long time. Seemed to be a decent stand up independent auction to me, or at least it was back then. I keep meaning to go back for a look see. The old boy that started it was quite a character!:D
