I think we first need to know the circumstances !

    Just curiousity.

not part of the big two but our local auctions, i never push them as there often waiting for an answer on several cars from the same vendor, i know some garages push for an answer early and the block just say its been declined.

Yes, this is my understanding. "the longer your hook's in the water, the more chance of a bite". But, I'd rather a quick no if you see what I mean.

If the auction houses are so desperate that they're signing up to a contract like that then they're heading for the knackers yard.

I, for one, have no sympathy for car auctioneers. They rape their buyers with their fees, they offer fuck all service to the same buyers and they have twisted the industry so that large vendors are paying next to nowt because they always expect to get blood out of us lads. They only have themselves to blame for any hardship. The sooner more of it ends up online, with sensible fees, the better.

Yes, I think they will end up online only pretty soon. As far as the auction houses are concerned the less opportunities buyers have to inspect cars in the flesh the better. Their descriptions are far from honest, always seeming to miss the important bits. I'm sure they'll do a brilliant job of selling the idea of how easy it will be to thumb through the descriptions, click, pay and arrange delivery without having to leave your desk. Welcome to the future.

    I couldn't understand that either.

I just can't get excited about electric cars in the slightest. They do nothing for me.

I am exactly the same, but they are the future. As I mentioned earlier, and in my opinion (what is the internet without opinions), a young thrusting 'go getter', could start gathering together specialists capable of dealing with these cars and grab a good foothold in specialising in used cars.

Me, I'll probably be long gone and cremated in a 'Dodge Charger' petrol tank :P

    yes...but...

it was also in the Sunday Times a few weeks back ( a full article in the business section) tesla are looking to selling cars that will need no maintenance and even the brake shoes will last the life of the car

remember tesla are really selling the dream here,no injun with an electric motor too and batteries for them

Regardless of what Tesla think, they 'do' still go wrong

The problem with doing this is even if you are able to find someone who owns a plot of land who is willing to do it on this basis, then you have absolutely no security for your business.

For example Mr land owner says "sure fill it with cars mate and just chuck me £50 a car sold"

Now you go out and stick 10/15/20 cars on the pitch, business starts ticking along nicely and then Mr land owner changes his mind and says he wants his land back ! Where does this leave you ?

If you are going to do it properly from premises then you really need some security by way of a lease agreement, it is possible to get a flexible lease arrangement with most landlords especially on industrial units if you need flexibility.

As said earlier though unless trading from home is causing a nightmare with lack of space / problems with neighbours / wife threatening to leave you etc etc then i would stay as you are and earn as much as possible while you have low overheads.

Selling 2 or 3 cars a month from home may well make you as much net profit as doing 10 a month from a pitch.

    This.

    Can I go home yet?

Not until you've done your 100 lines.

"I must lower my standards and buy crap, as I can't sell empty spaces"
"I must lower my standards and buy crap, as I can't sell empty spaces"

  7. I'm guessing everyone that uses Ebay has had the notice of the change in conditions regarding direct dealing or 'off sales'. Ebay are now going to much stricter about this. It struck me that it is going to affect car breakers selling 'wheel nuts' and the "contact me for anything else you might want" type ads?

I once bought 30 electric golf buggies at a manheim sale once, I knew I should have kept them :)

I was at a farm/machinery auction a few weeks ago and almost bought one of those road legal offroad type buggies used by the forestry commission. Looked like a golf cart on steroids:D

Are you going to tell us how you shifted the buggies.I doubt you sold them to Golf Clubs ( my guess they may have rented some )

    He sold them to Tesla:lol:

Was in Blackbushe today, earmarked roughly 50 that were decent and worth having a bid on. All sold, the lowest being cap clean money (grade 5). Bought myself a sausage roll and a ribena and came home empty handed.

Well you're not alone. I can't buy crap just to fill the spaces. I had two on my list that I even expected to put clutches in and was still outbid on them

tell him to read this first then

    Tesla Annual Service Inspection

Unlike combustion engine cars, Tesla vehicles require no traditional oil changes, fuel filter, spark plug replacements, or emission checks. As an electric vehicle, even brake pad replacements are rare because regenerative braking returns energy to the battery, significantly reducing wear on brakes. Our inspections instead focus on checking wheel alignment and tyre condition, assessing replacement parts like key fob batteries and windshield wiper blades, and installing the latest software update. Tesla recommends an annual service inspection every year or 12,500 miles, whichever occurs first, to maintain your vehicle to top performance standards.

.... but they will eventually require repair whether due to accident damage or wear and tear. They'll have bearings and suspension components not to mention chassis control systems that always go wrong in the end.

  11. After another disappointing auction buying trip. You know that feeling when you have to make the best of a bad bunch. Nothing is quite right and everything has a problem. The term is "rat f*****" I understand.

They'll be removable, it'll just be the seller's a lazy bastard.

I thought my prep levels are shite but that's a disgrace - and he's not shy with his pricing either!

Yeah, it's amazing what a good valet can do?

While we are on the subject of valets, how does everyone feel about 'steaming' interiors? I was was hearing from an car upholsterer a few weeks back about how 'steaming' does a good job of removing dirt/stains and glue needed to assemble the seats?
