I will try and apply that thinking to my staff at the end of the month somehow i cant see them digging it lol

Shorter working hours, more time to spend with their families. It's not so much the bad news but how you 'dress it up':D

PS: I think we are a little light on stock at the mo?

I'm talking about the customers.... nearly ALL of our customers have more common sense that a Minister!

ps. please note the nearly bit before i get flamed alive.

Government ministers that travel around in diesel cars and diesel trains, and have everything they buy delivered in diesel lorries... etc.

    Yes I agree.

I rarely punt a diesel, but I'd be an idiot to ignore what's going on in that area now

I think that they'll make a case for HGV's and trains to continue as diesel but private vehicles are going to have take the hit. I'm old enough to remember a time when there were no diesel cars, maybe we'll end up back there, who knows?

I have never had this little stock apart from maybe the first month of trading, and i see no signs of it changing.

Used diesel cars will go up in price, there is still a strong demand for Fuel Efficient cars.

    Petrol 1.0 turbocharged = 35mpg

    or

    1.6 TDI = 65+mpg

Yes, but when has common sense ever had anything to do with a government policy decision? Ministers only know less than the people paid to advise them!

    Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive

"The ongoing and substantial decline in new diesel car registrations is concerning, particularly since the evidence indicates consumers and businesses are not switching into alternative technologies, but keeping their older cars running. "Given fleet renewal is the fastest way to improve air quality and reduce CO2, we need government policy to encourage take-up of the latest advanced low emission diesels as, for many drivers, they remain the right choice economically and environmentally."

Interesting times ahead for diesels in the 'used' market?

its  a price range car if you get my drift

    A growing sector these days

If anyone is having trouble shifting an Insignia, advertise it in Suffolk; every other car is an Insignia and every minicab is an Insignia estate!:D

See a lot of high miles One series floating around some lovely specs on them as well for decent money any suggestions / thoughts ?

BMW's are not my thing, but round these parts one series are smoking hot, especially in white.

My £4K stock is gathering dust. Plodding on with run of the mill shite up to £2K, miley (so it looks like flash for not much cash) 4x4 & 7 seaters up to £3K.

I’ve got a couple of average mileage Rav4s that I’ve not opened the door on, FTSH etc. I’ve carved the balls off the prices cos I’m sick of looking at them but to zero effect.

Yet, 2 big p/x vehicles with an eyewatering 160Kish each flew out of the door in days, so quick that I bought in another 2 & they followed suit. All with proper profit across them. It doesn’t make sense to me.

Rav 4 has suddenly gone out of fashion for some reason. They used to be easy sellers round these parts. As regards the 160k, I am finding that mileage doesn't put punters off like it used to

Our customers are turning their nose up at just the mention of the word we've found over the last 18 months or so.

Has been mentioned on here a few times: I like some others, have sworn the pledge against buying any diesels a while back.  Especially heavier stuff.

If a diesel comes in PX I'm v. hard on it.  However- price range diesels up to 3 grand ish seem to sell still. Not that we're particularly busy the last couple of months...

When the prices for diesels start catching up at the block it's going to be mighty tough not sticking my hand in the air!

Who’s buying this massively overpriced stock? Washington’s been a joke recently for bottom & mid-range stock.

Traders fighting over 10-15yr old pure shite that if a private man presented it to me as a p/x I wouldn’t even offer him the Manheim gate money.

Stock that should be £1500-2500 is making £2000-3000 before the gate money. I’m sorry, but how on earth is anyone making money on this stuff? I just hope it’s not f***ed when it’s driven out otherwise that’s more money, some lads must have £3000 in £2000 cars.

Personally, with the bits I buy, if its clean I don't even bother walking in to watch.

  11. There is a market for those old Rovers, but it has to be a 'nice one'! But, you'll be dealing with a punter viewing it as a classic/collectable and classic buyers in general have to be picky. You've been warned. I would be tempted to give it a proper punt not just 'scrap it off'! As the great man says "he who dares wins"!:D

Overspray isn't acceptable, its unprofessional. It means poor prep and the sprayer isn't taking pride and doing his job right. Totally not acceptable in my book.

I totally agree but as I said, this is how it came and otherwise it's ok, even the paint is OK?

are the prices really that bad not been to a auction for years .

Paddock Wood used to be the end of the rainbow in a very nice part of Kent/Sussex where people could afford to look after their cars regardless of age. But, that's all changed and they get the same old shit you find everywhere else. P/x's on their last legs, mostly hiding a catastrophic failure, two weeks MOT and no history.

    The staff are friendly though.

We often get calls on cars that we have taken a deposit from, the caller is so obviously the customer than dropped the deposit, with a handkerchief over the mouthpiece like something from an episode of Ironside, asking if "is the car sold, are you sure, really sure?"

Usually the same type whom swop the battery over on the px. I guess they expect to be treated as they would treat someone else....even had a Chinese guy do a 'stealth mark' the battery on a Laguna he was buying from us with Tipex before...three dots on it so we added another dot to confuse him.

Four dots is the Mandarin for wanker:D

  15. I've noticed that BCA do move a lot of their stock around, more than Manheim. I spend a lot of time driving up and down the M1 every week and there is a seemingly endless stream of loaded BCA trucks heading northbound. I'm guessing they know some of their stock is better placed at certain auction sites but you don't seem to get a lot of trucks heading down to Paddock Wood/Blackbushe.

  16. Interesting? My daughter is the photographer in the family and last year I decided to let her takes some pics of one of my old bangers. It's a little bit of a giggle for her and she went full on 'moody' skies, close-up of rain drops, bokeh etc and I stuck it on anyway. I have a punter call and asks if I have any pics of the 'real' car as they were clearly Ford publicity pics. I couldn't convince him that they were actually pics of the car and I had to redo them 'dumbed down'. I let her have a go at another one yesterday, we'll see how that turns out!:D

So I get a call on a car on Friday afternoon that up to this point I had had little interest in. Nice chap asks all the right questions, asks about the price and arranges an appointment for Sunday. All good no issues.

Saturday I get two more telephone calls on the same car but different punters. This time complete and utter space cadets all the usual BS and then ridiculous bids.

Guy is due to arrive 2pm on Sunday, get a text off him to confirm he is still coming all good. Then I recieve two further calls similar to Saturday loads of nonsense and crazy offers.

Guy turn up just before 2 goes for a test drive comes back happy but then starts haggling despite agreeing the price on Firday. He then starts to labour on about timewasters and how can I be bothered to deal with messers when he is here to buy the car. Anyway I do end up doing it for a slightly better price and he buys it. It was only afterwards I started to wonder was it all a ploy to get me to discount the car?

Maybe I am just being paranoid or as anyone else experienced anyhting similar?

I usually get the guy turn up, happy with car makes silly offer and I send him away. within an hour or so another guy asks new questions and offers a bid slightly higher than the first guy (denies any connection with first guy) I decline. Another hour and another guy calls asking again different questions and offers slightly more! Pantomime!

"It was February 2014 when MOT’s started to include a check to see if the filter was present"

Yup, and still plenty of companies still offering DPF removal, even today with 'it won't fail MOT' statements, a quick google will show that.

Hate remaps too, these must by default, corrupt the emissions calibration of an engine.

Loud exhausts another pet hate, can't be louder than an OE system but go to London and you need ear plugs nowadays.

Spot on, all the local 'likely lads' drive these large German performance coupe's that sound like hot rods!

So we'll now be selling cars with MInor 'faults' instead... that sounds easier to explain to a layman than an advisory

Not sure what the implications are when the customer presents the car for its next MOT and fails because EGR/DPF has been removed historically?

Just rejected a car from local Manheim. Bought online as a grade 2 with two pictures of trolley dents and strong odour in car. Went to collect it turbo whistling its buns off, car needed 2 sides painting and 4 alloys refurbed, crack in rear parcel shelf....not a nice example at all and I would of walked straight passed it if I had actually been at the auction that day. Anyway went straight back to the counter handed over paperwork and keys and said I was refusing the car as it had been graded incorrectly. After several strong emails they agreed to cancel the purchase. It has now been re-graded to a 4 with 16 pictures online.

If only we could survey without having to use auctions!!

    Sorry I mean "survive"

More like, "if only we could trust auctions to 'honestly' and 'accurately' describe cars on simulcast" in the way we have to when selling them!

thanks for bringing this to our attention, the good news is advisories are out

the word minor used instead =

minor - defects having no significant effect on the safety of the vehicle or impact on the environment and other minor non-compliances. If only defects of a minor nature are present a test certificate will still be issued :)

I wonder if wer're going to be spending time replacing EGR's and DPF that have 'gone missing' in the cars history. As  I understand it, if it was originally fitted it needs to be 'present' when tested?

There's a great thread on this forum showing some of the ridiculous 'advisories' that we've all experienced

How are they going to check the dpf ? Visual.....

It was only a matter of time before they started cracking down on people removing EGR etc. Should make MOT a bit of a lottery for a while
