In the 6 months to Oct 17 BCA sold 107,000 WBAC vehicles,up 20% on the previous 6 months. As most of these would be bought by the trade,I think this underlines the fact that they must be a good source of stock for many dealers........Can you imagine how many of these WBAC have’ nicked’,I imagine ,it must be a large proportion.

I'm looking at Blackbushe on Monday, about 940 cars in total, nearly half are UKCGR stuff? You can't really choose to ignore it?

I wonder how many of those 107k returned a profit, or ended up in a skip?:D

And can someone explain in 'real' terms the difference between 'premium', 'select', 'trade' and 'no reserve'?

Peterborough to Fleet, including the underground came to £27.50 which I didn't think was too bad. The car I'm picking up has got half a tank of petrol in, so that should negate some of the cost....

I can get from London Stratford to Colchester Town for £8, and if I'm lucky I'm on my own and there's a toilet!

Not a clue, was our first time there! We did buy, and asked where the car was parked.... The guy said it was in the Market car park and to jump in the minibus that was about 200yds away, shouted to his mate that we were coming up... walked up and spoke to the driver, he told us no, he wasn't giving us a lift so we had to walk all the blinking way around

After a 3 hour wait for lost keys for the complete section!

Sound pretty standard, Manheim Colchester can be picky about giving you a lift (although judging by the state of the minibus I'd rather walk). And they have almost gone out of their way to make it difficult to walk out into the far reaches of the compound on that strange grey stone that that turns to mud and gets everywhere in the car!

I'm going to go against the grain here, and say I've had some of my best / most profitable cars from this section!

I avoid anything 'sheddy' and anything specialist / sought after, as there is usually a reason why it's there!!

But I've genuinely had some gems, the sort of stuff that the last owner didn't want the hassle / strange people turning up on their door step, and I'm convinced I've had the odd where the last owner has deceased, and the family have just got rid through WBAC.

Agree there are a lot of lemons, but most of them should be easy to spot with a bit of experience / gut feeling....

My 'gut feeling' is that all that crap is there because everyone else has tried to fix it and failed.

  5. Might be ok for the odd 'banger', but i wouldn't want to spend any real money on someones old turd. There are two buyers for this wbac stuff, private buyers who don't know any better and traders who think they'll buy a car with a fault that's easily fixed?

I've heard there are diamonds in the rough but i've never found one.

We've gone up to Blackbushe on public transport.

The nearest train station is Blackwater.

We were attending the auction in person and stayed the night in the Ely Hotel - walked from the train station on a walking trail (and through some very secluded car parks with some very suspicious people in their cars!)

The taxi from the Ely Hotel to Blackbushe was about £6. The train station is only a couple of miles from there so I can't imagine it being more than £10

About a 15 min trip in the car from the station to the front door.

Don't Blackbushe run a shuttle from the station on sale days for trade?

I'm two days into running it and I have to say it's bloody good fun! Nippy, handles as well as any other small car and has already got a few favourable comments...thinking of sign writing the thing up and using it as a run about

Watch out you'll catch the bug, I did exactly the same thing as you and ended up keeping one for 10yrs. It lasted longer than my last marriage. Drove everywhere in it, unstoppable. Tow anything. Fetch a washing machine back from Makro and still get five people in it.

    Fuel consumption gets tiring though

To which the customer will reply “Well if you are coming over you might as well come in the car!”

Which is back to square one.

To which you reply "no, that's fine, I'm quite happy to pop over now while they are pdi'ing the car for you, be there in 10mins".

Don't forget the idea is not to go to them but to 'encourage' them to come to you?

Taking a car to a punter always puts you on the 'back foot' as far as negotiation is concerned
