JGW - some will help some won't - it's just the way it is on here, There have been many threads on here with new starts, as they say no question is stupid but sadly there have been so many stupid questions. Think it's already been mentioned try to search some of the earlier threads, many tips to be picked up , use your own money to test the market you'll soon find out what sells/ doesn't sell, retailing is totally different to trade 2 trade / auction business,. feel free to ping me an email umesh@autochange.co.uk and will try to give you some guidance!
  4. +1 Agree with Rory, If they're buying they're buying! I've tried the odd ' voucher' £250 off bring this with you .... customers have come in and bought and not even mentioned the voucher although they have seen it ! #Bizarre
  5. All part of the job, if they fail that's life move on - Totally pointless charging then refund if they fail.
  6. Manufacturers will try and protect the network if they see any one as a threat, it’s usually the local dealer that reports and the soft letter arrives. My back ground is VAG and when I started majority of my stock was Audi – VW and I made a big thing about it inc. good old yellow pages. When I did the YP advert I was very careful using the Audi – VW logo, I didn’t us the logo but pictures of the grille ( cars in stock) – fast forward I get a letter from VAG asking me to remove the logo off my website and stop using logo’s in future adverts. I replied back and stated that I was not using the logos but images or cars that I either own or have owned and would not be removing them from the advert but the odd logo which may have been on the website would be removed but not images. I did get a letter back saying they acknowledge my comments, no more was heard. A good friend of mine at the same had to remove BMW & Jaguar logos off his showroom windows.
  7. As EPV Says, ' Cost of borrowing the money' rather than % of any profit on vehicles etc, you have to remember you'er taking all the risks and doing the work, if you start paying them per car etc it could be a very expensive way to borrow money. Then again it depends on the risk factor from your investor too.
  8. Used to be to add all the vehicles in stock and up to 14 days to put them on , however they changed the rules and only those which are in use/taxed, I used to think best put them all on but was told not to do so. Saves a load of hassle so just doing what I'm told. #simples
  9. Correct ! Trade plates and vehicle you use /taxed vehicles only. Been like that for a while
  10. Mann Island & Blue Motor Finance both very good for prime and sub prime. Usually find if these two can't place it then bin it and move on!
  11. Website is essential,! 'the website' is your showroom builds trust. Dealer5 is value for money and if you want a few more goodies then click dealer , both great companies to work with. Good luck
  12. Sorry Guys, Some great comments , thanks for your input! Happy to contribute just a wee bit busy ! Best decision was to walk away from paid job at the main dealers I'd been with for 15 years and start up on my own in 1997.( And close Sundays from day 1) ! Worst decision was to take a friend on as a salesman many ,many years ago who wasn't performing but I 'lived' with the situation for far too long ... nearly 3 years too long before parting company with him.( should have moved him on with in 6 months!) Expensive mistake but we all learn!
  13. Like everyone in any business we make so many decisions some without thinking ' auto pilot' ! So what's the BEST and WORST decision that you've made in your business ! premises , stock , eureka moment that made you fortune or blow a fortune , coffee choice ! Fire away.

    CDX 18

Great event, massive place although it didn't feel busy as Silverstone but I think its purely due to its enormous size and lots of space around every stand ! Thoroughly enjoyed it , lots to take in interesting workshops , although I couldn't get to them all ,Great speaks/panel - Q& A Sessions that I manged to listen to. Also great to meet so many dealers face to face, some I've never met and others just to catch up, the BIG bonus was the number of independent dealers that signed up for the IMDA!
  15. Give Adrian a call, he's in Nantiwch which not a million miles away and hopefully he can help 07968 107563 Feel free to mention me. Umesh
  16. Temp sensor we've had issues with previously.

CDX 18 - Manchester - 2 days ! Thoughts everyone who went? What did you think of the venue? what was the most useful workshop/event /stand that you got the most out of?
  18. Awesome Rory, well done! I've always closed bank holidays but one rang me Sunday morning to see if I was open , made an appointment for late Sunday afternoon as I'd got other stuff to do, text book bought and thanked me for taking time out to meet him, another customer called me yesterday morning and said he wanted one of cars. Think it's always a mixed nag for everyone.
  19. Do quite a lot of sourcing, not an easy game but do well with it overall. repeats and recommendations are easy, just some of the new customers who don't fully understand how the process works. I explain it and if they want me to source then they need to commit, if no commitment i don't get involved.
  20. Agree with you ! proactive makes all the difference and looks professional ! #MyThoughts
  21. I was asking the question and not stating that The IMDA has such a page, many dealers have clearly been named on here who have sold cars with issues, Me or The IMDA are not judges on anyone or anybody but simply asking should there be a place where dealers can give their experience good or bad with the cars they have bought which may help fellow dealers? An open review system which dealers could rate and sellers and have right to reply should they wish to do so. No one wants to slate fellow dealers , this job is hard enough with some consumers, however I feel those dealers who time and time shaft other dealers need to understand we're all in the same game and it can't continue, usually the bigger boys who think we the smaller guys don't matter. The answer I guess is yes! something is needed and it has to be fair to all.
  22. Lots of debates from so many dealers on here and on the IMDA about 'mis-described ' cars on various auctions i.e. Dealer Auction seems most popular , many saying the sellers seem to know there are issues with cars but simply not disclosing - many of the dealers on the IMDA Forum feel there is a need to have a section to 'Name & Shame' to worn others to be cautious if these sellers put cars through. Would it be useful? I also guess the odd genuine car has issues but it's how the seller deals with it once this is highlighted. At the same time name the good ones as they should not be tarred with the same brush, giving evening one more confidence to bid and buy knowing the genuine dealers who do the 'job right'. Thoughts? Umesh
  23. The mot changes come into force in May which most of us are aware of, but I didn't realise the equipment needs some update/tweaks, I had a call yesterday from the company that we use saying they'll be along to do the necessary and the cost is £650+ vat , just wondering if anyone can enlighten me me ? Thanks Umesh
