You have to take your hat off to both Jim and Umesh. I mean, they don't have to do what they have done and continue to do. I certainly wouldn't be arsed with it. There are not many in this trade who have my full respect, but these guys do.

Just a shame Jim no longer posts on here, maybe now that certain posters (who bizarrely had beef with the IMDA) have rightly been asked to leave Jim could get back on the pitch.

Thanks again for the feedback @sparky just trying to help anyone/everyone in the industry that we love, we're all the same we all have so much experience that we can all share and help each other with, I just wished when I started in 1997 there was help /support/forums and people that could have helped.

Well I suppose the one I have to say was years ago when I first started trading and it was more of a part time hobby, I bought a an ultra blue Corsa C SXI, was a nice low mileage thing had only done 50k Miles, it got delivered off the transporter and then a couple of minutes later a guy comes in asking if it’s for sale as he was looking for a car for his daughter. He wanted a deal and was happy to take it as was so done literally nothing to it and his daughter came in to collect the car. And had it not been for covid 19 I would be getting married next month and the man would be my father in law

FANTASTIC ! Something great to look forward to when the Covid-19 is over!

    Wishing you all the best.

  3.  March 1998 that’s about 8 months after starting the business, a couple come in to look at VW Corrado 16V and VW Golf VR6 Highline on a Saturday afternoon, 1st they go out in the Corrado at £12400 and then the Golf at £16700, I’m thinking that’s a fair bit of difference in price but just did the test drives.

When they had driven both I couldn’t really get a feel for which way as she loved the Corrado and he loved the Golf, so having given them a drink and left them discussing in the showroom I went back to my office. After a few minutes the lady walks in says,” so how much are they again?” £12400 and £16700.

She says, “can I write you a cheque for £25000 now and pay the rest when we pick them up?”

I said you’re having them both. “yes, we can’t decide I love the corrado and John wants the Golf so we’ll have them both”

Are you sure commission is not involved in the total income 80% calculation.Someone told me it was.

Commission definately not included, as we know a lot of sales people are probably on circa £12000 PA ( From what I'm hearing) so regardless of how much they earn in commission the gov only looks at the basic pay and will only pay 80% of the basic £800 !

  5. Autotrader announce full year results, in line with market expectations, but also announce hashtag#covid19 support for dealers. Advertising package fees for April to be waived and payment of March fees to be deferred for 30 days. Expected to produce a loss for the business in April of £6m-£7m.

This will be very welcomed by all!

    Anyone advertising on hey car?

seen it a lot on google ads....

Only for franchise dealers not for used car dealers. I had a long conversation with them at one of the conference last year.

Just had Autotrader on the phone for the past 30 mins , on this subject

He said it was there to give customers a good overall view into fair deals , I said all it does is make the scrap look cheap . so he asked how i came to  that opinion ?

Two cars advertised then and at this point we are on autotrader

One car low price , one car high price .

LOW price didn't mention Service History , number of keys , number of owners , tread depth on tyres , Cam belt history , how long the car had been owned by previou keeper .

High price did mention 12 Stamps , two keys 1 previous keeper , recent tyres , cam belt history in june 19

They were £595 apart in price . I asked which was the better car ? He said the high priced one . So I said if that's the case why don't AUTOTRADER tell the public that information instead of its a HIGH Price so that trader is making money he deserves too .

I also challenged them to spend a week with me buying cars , We will take £100,000 of my own money and go out buying cars at autotrader prices and sell them at autotrader good price marker prices using their systems to prove they sell and are popular in my area , Thats after I've done my bit to ensure they don't come back with moaning customers , then see if there is enough profit left to pay auto traders bill and a profit on my 100k .

If we made any money at all I would concede to their systems , if I struggled to sell the cars at a profit then they buy them back off me , but its my money up front in the first instance so no risk except to prove your talk with actions .

He told me he had been told the prices were high so it could be difficult to achieve that  NO Shit sherlock , join our world . Alright doing the bloody talk isn't it but walking the walk with your own  cash and taking the risks we all do  is a different world in reality ,

Pouncy PAYE cowards just waiting for end of month £1,400 cheque coming , make my blood boil they do

You're like an old stuck record Mr. H .... Just like ME! :)

Same arguments, same conversations , same reasoning - Consumers are being MISLED and in a lot of cases the higher price ones are the BETTER BUY! #Simpes #KIP

  8. Yes - a few ! Although ALL the conversations have started with " it's ove priced....." managed to convince them , but they must have been interested in my cars to even make contact ! the biggest worry is that how didn't bother to contact me and simply scrolled past .... !!

As I keep saying to Autotrader 'we're starting on the back footwith customers, the motor trade already has a bad reputaion and these markers are not helping to build trust whenthey tell customers our cars are 'high price' with inaccurate data! IMO!

Reduced my stock by 50%! [ No not in price :) - Advertised stock! ]

reading the small print they won't even tax it for you, they send you the new keeper reference number, such a basic thing we all on here arrange customers tax don't we ?

Really ! Can't belive that - customers just want it easy, so why not do that for them! seems bizarre!

  10. You can't stay on the fence for ever, its yes you want to go alone or stay put!

Biggest thing is you'll be playing with your own money and not someone else's , if you're not going to do the 'job' right ie the clutch example then i don't think you'll so well long term, the days of not acting responsible are well over, CRA, Reviews etc etc. Good luck!
