  1. smart SKY ads can be targeted, was talking to them earlier this year as they were possibly thinking of joining the IMDA ! Very cleaver stuff and getting more affordable as such. Having another meeting with them soon to see how they maybe able to help the small/independent dealers with value for money advertsing.

@Mark101 "days in stock" is so consumers can use that against the dealers to bash the prices down :) !

We are brothers from different counties.... exactly the same for me.

Best thing I have done in this business (apart from taking a holiday) was to get a new completely seperate mobile number/contract for the business. This is where all VOIP calls are routed too. When work finishes (or I decide), phone goes off and I can relax knowing when my own mobile rings, it isn't a screamer. BTW, for those of you who have my number, that is my personal one, so I am not blocking "forum fweinds" just the midnight dreamers and screamers.

I don't see WhatsApp on @umesh website. Cracking site though, lovely set up too by the looks of it.

I have whatsApp had it about 4 months, within two days sold a car direcly off it a guy sitting at the airport in Italy on route back to Manchester airport, 4/5 quick messages, flew into manchester drove to me and bought the car! ( Would have driven it away but wasn't able to do the transfer and came back on the monday ) which he said he didn't really mind.

Had various other conversations and appointments made and sold off it. It's just another way for them to communicate and much better than live chat, which I also have. #everylittlehelps

@noacross display on the mobile phone , quick eand easy to respond IMO.

  3. Amazon, we all know the power of this monster and how we’ve all got to love it’s simplicity, quick click and it’s here.

As we all know cars aren’t quite the same, new cars will work but what I’m so confused by is why would manufacturers want to supply Amazon, they want dealers to build new and very, very expensive showrooms to give customers the ‘buying experience’ and in the next breath want to supply cars via a third party.

On the one hand they(manufacturers) want to push ‘home delivery’ and next about experience, an I missing something?

Then there are warranty issues, where does the customer take the car to? Forgot the local dealer, who’s only too pleased to supply a free courtesy loan car and look after them!!

lots of main dealers are struggling to cope with 20/30 bay workshops today, 2/3 week lead times, so how do they handle these sales.

Some of us are already selling cars using ‘click and buy/reserve’ directly off the website, guess some of the buyers will love this but majority still want to visit/touch feel /smell before saying yes!

    Watching with interest.

    HI Kieran

Welcome aboard . Nice intro as the others have said

Trick to selling is make sure you do three things , Prep , prep ,prep , make sure the car is mechanically sound and fit for purpose , service it , inspect it very well , then it wont come back to bite you .If it does man up and fix it, but equally dont be a soft touch as they will try to skin your last breathe if you do .

Regards detailing cars and selling them , I can tell you now that people who buy cars haven't got a clue about detailing and whats involved , but its a very useful skill to shall we say enhance the paint work and make the interior look sparkly clean too . We are pro detailers too so we know how they react to that word  When you get to the higher prices 12/16k then its a different story but in the price range you said don't confuse the customer :rolleyes:with sealants , nano products , machine polishing , carnuba waxes and the rest .

Insurance !, put it dads name and add yourself on at the same time , we did when my son was 19 and it was easy , better when he was 25 so you shouldn't have any trouble really .

Above all have fun , its hard work but done correctly it makes money , I get a sense of satisfaction from every sale . But I live for the deals .Like detailing too mind sometimes pick on a car and go to the limits of shine and finish , just because i can :D

Just took a 66 plate Audi A3 quattro that wants detailing , the £900 will give me an internal glow when he pays me on Monday :D

Hi Kieran , Like everyone has said .. but this man always talks a lot of sense @David Horgan :) #fun and Enjoy what you do, if you'ev got a passion for it, you'll make it work...

@umesh and the IMDA are running a google masterclass with someone who knows a lot about this and from the last course I have already seen a few people say they have upped their reviews coming in as a result.

Ive booked onto it just for this as I don't feel I get enough for the size of the business.

Spot on @Rory RSC everyone who was on the last IMDA Google Masterclass have lots more and positive reviews, glad you've booked Manchester , it will be another fantastic day! lots of stuff to learn and implement to help independents stand out even more.

Been a very good finance month round here for some reason , weird month on that front even the ones who i thought were buying on debit card wanted to spread the cost .  . Even sold two cars at 3k with 100% finance all prime as well :D

75 % of the sales on finance has made this month a record with today were on 37 as of todays 2 so happy days , cant wait for the 1st week in August when the commission hits the bank :D

Cant buy the stock though , but thats another story

Excellent David ! Great to read success stories out there!

Ladies and gentleman the IMDA is definitely NOT closing !!

The email that some of you may have ‘Mia read’ is “ The IMDA is closing the forum in its current format, the forum is old technology and not user friendly on mobile devices.

We’ve been discussing for some time what to do with it and a few months ago we set up the ‘IMDA Facebook Group’ for members, this has been a massive success with lots more interactions as we thought it would! The email was sent to tell current forum members that the forum will be closing and suggest those not already on the FB group should do so or they will be missing out on all the conversations!

The membership is growing everyday and we’re very proud of what we’ve all achieved in such a short time with exclusive offers for all IMDA dealers.

The message was also to inform members of the new website which is near completion, again will be much easier to navigate to access important information and offers.

Thanks for your input folks, you may be right about it being a waste of money. I just had it in my mind that I wanted one!

Umesh, I have had a look at the 360 spin and I think it looks great, I will look into that as an option. Who do you use, if you don't mind me asking please? Thank you.

    Cheers

Sorry just seen this DM if I can help with any info :) ! #BetterLateThanNever

We always ask the question where did you see it and allow them to answer.

If their call or email came in before hand we have a bit more evidence. We also ask most did they only use that site or did they see us anywhere else?

Being totally objective and looking at your own business are your adverts well written, cars priced to market, do you use video, do you have some feedback and reviews, are you playing the autotrader game so to speak. If its

£611 per sale. I wouldn't be on here posting about that I would be thinking its not working for me, and handing in notice. Its ridiculous.

Obviously the ‘call whisper’ is a major advantage as it tells us all instantly where the lead is from, I always ask too and it gets asked again on a feedback form that I give to all my customers.

The magic bit that none of know is did the customer search Google then on to a classified platforms or a direct search on the platforms.

Cost per sale from AT is getting a lot higher from many, many conversations I’m having with dealers, seems lots getting lot less leads/sales.

Average per sale I’m begin told is between £150-£200 (some of the bigger players it may be lower) thanks  @funnyfarm for numbers to share with us, that’s a massive chunk per unit and there has to be a way to bring that down.

As @nick I had a sale a few weeks ago via FB Messenger but it was instigated by an advert on AT! Just shows how customers keep moving around, the reason was they were ‘checking ‘my social media profile’ and were happy that I as real  !

  11. Video's ! You're right many simply don't read what the ad says, I try to highlight the main features / selling points on the video and that definately works for me as many have told me they heard me say " xxxxxx "  on the video! Pictures help to 'grab the attention' but it's bits of all that hep and not one thing alone.

This is basically the trouble with the modern society isn't it .

90% of people are aggressive from word go when a fault occurs . Lets google the latest pillock that writes online about a subject he doesn't even know about and then spout that clap trap in an aggressive manner because my 70,000 mile  £2,000 car has got an EML light on .

1 ;I know my rights , its your fault , you must have known it was faulty , I can reject it , It was there from when i collected it . I want it fixing free . NOW ,

    Instead of ring ring

2; Hello my names !!!!! you know the !!!!!! I bought last week its developed an EML light and just thought if I popped in you might look at it for me please .

Your buying a USED car that's been round the world Three times and  has multiple people driving it , hundreds of moving parts that DO wear . Its NOT new so respect it and don't expect a new one .

When / If something does go wrong its because cars DO wear out on a variable time span till we throw them away .

Plus its always better to be polite at first and its probably going to get any faults done so much quicker .

This was based on real life last week , Lad buys a Corsa , two weeks later EML comes on , its needed a Lamba probe when we plugged it in , When its in stock I'll ring you I said . OK lad goes thanks . Left him message NEXT day , Hi Parts in , you ok to pop in and we will fit while you wait .

He didn't get the message , didn't open his messages .

Two days later dads on phone threatening to bring it down and leave it here , I told him to listen to his sons messages and wind his neck in .

Son came down , said dad was a horrible aggressive lunatic that never gets anything done because of his attitude .

We fitted his Lamba and he was off happy without getting worked up ., Mum phoned me to apologise about husbands aggressive manner :o

So billy joe public calm down and be nice , stop reading tripe online and you may well live a long and happy life getting small and large problems that do come to haunt everyone at times fixed in a timely professional manner .

But do also remember we can tell when YOU are not telling us the full whole truth and nothing but the truth .

    100% agree !

All about attitude, I had major issue with BT 'mis-selling' me the phone system for the workshop, the saga lasted 4 months with headache and eventually they cancelled the contract and back on the old system, As angry as I was and annoyed I stayed calm and professional but expressing my annoyance at the whole situation. Because of how I was, it got sorted and even got compensation which 'allegedly' don't offer! 1st offer I rejected and ‘asked’ it to be reviewed and sure enough they came back! If I’d shouted from the start …. ! it would have gone horribly wrong!

Great to meet you yesterday Davidface to a voice

    Hi Umesh

We have an array of diagnostic equipment and we still fall short sometimes in good data and information from the bloody things.

I can vouch for Launch, we have an old GDS that is still going strong and is our "go to" over and above the KTS. I have a friend that has the latest launch and he says its very good too.

However it depends upon what you do the most of, if there are other bits that can be run off a laptop and are amazing for little money.

    Vag - Com

    Forscan

    Op-Com

Id not put all of my eggs in the one basket, as there isn't one tool that does it all.

Do you sell more of one make? Or struggle with one particular make?

    Mainly German stuff, but need it for all general stuff in the workshop, looks like everyone is talking me into Autel, which I'd never come across before this thread! [ shows how little I know about workshop equipment }

Where's th ebest plave ro buy Autel equip [ Hate eBay :)]

Thanks everyone, this is great information you've all given me.
    PS

Looking for a Technician / MOT Tester for the workhop if anyone knows anyone good looking for a job in stoke on Trent, if any of you know anyone in this part of the world!

There you go another vote for Autel, they are the best Generic at the moment for under 2k, have been for a year or 2 now ;)

What are your Workshop using at the moment Umesh ?

Do you do all makes or just stick to say Germans, or French, etc etc all things that need weighing up, if you just do German for example I'd advise an up to date Autel with scope function, then get clone SDS, and VAG Com, INPA ISTA is a bit obsolete now except for programming F's, but I'm told the new Autel will do that ;)

You see how muddy the waters are, trouble is no one machine does every make and every fault, programming etc etc

I can see the appeal of the Snap On if you aren't the guy footing the bill ;)

Trouble is like all other Snap On Diagnostic's it will be obsolete in a few years when the new model comes out !!

We did have the Autoligic ( Old )  but last 12 months one of the lad's has his own Snap On which he's been using because he is more familar with it.

Mainly German stuff, The two snap on one's I'm looking at are circa £7 & 9K but at circa £2k Autel that looks increadible value @Dave2302 and a vote from @Tom too!

I'd argue that if your workshop guys aren't directing you in what you need to buy, the chances are they wouldn't make any more use of these £2k scanners over £200 jobbies

Down to the workshop guys Umesh and you would need someone very, very good to get the best out of that bit of kit which is a serious investment.

They're loving the Snap On and that's what they are saying I should be going for , but it's all too easy for them to say 'that's the one' but they get blinkered and not fully aware of anything else which is on the market hence asking on here from those that have more knowledge of what is on offer, which may be better or less expensive or better value without getting ripped off.

I looked at that, then I spent £600 updating my 4 year old Snap On Solus Ultra Pro ;)

I repair Electronics at a very advanced level, and I wouldn't use most of it ;)

It will never be as good as Dealer Level.

Personally if you are after a really good top end Machine go for the top of the range Autel Machine, it's around £1900 and IRL will do far more than the Snap On will, which costs many times more ;) The Snap On has a lot of bells and whistles which you don't need, and the Help Line is a waste of space if you have google !!

Finally, Snap On will wan't you to pay them so much a month DD as a subscription for s/w updates............ Yeah, fuck that for a game of soldiers ............

Far better ways to spend that sort of dosh ................... Bosch KTS, Autologic etc etc, but I wouldn't ;)

Seriously, look at the top end Autel Kit , very good ;)

Thanks Dave, it's a mine field and personally as I don't use it the workshop guys use it I'm never sure what's out there or what's the best for the job! The Snap -On looks awesome and a great story behind it all but already finding out about the DD for 'software updates' etc !! I'll check out the link and the model you recommend. Appreciate your time and knowledge.
