First rule of business Akhtar is this .

If its not working for you ITS YOUR FAULT , Got it, ITS YOUR FAULT  .

You are doing the job WRONG , Its no one else to blame .

I would outbid you at every turn , I will make you Puff & blow and call me a pillock at the block , , But its because I know my mkt and KNOW I'm going to make a handsome profit .

Years of self critique have learned me lessons I don't forget . I also do NOT work for peanuts either . I also sell 20/30 units a month , Money in the metal and bolt ons too

Aurfur Daly has said we are pro's at what we do and he's right , You have to learn the trade and an auction catalogue is NOT where its at either , I don't need a catalogue .

You have to ;learn how to bid , when to bid , when to stop , when to go higher , what sells , what doesnt , how quick they turn and how slow , Know the stocks faults and how to fix it , How to sell , how to present yourself , What to say to a customer , Know EVERY THING about the car your selling , How to prep it , where to sell from and were not to sell from.

Some people are born sellers , other are not .and this makes a huge difference , Come here and you would leave with the  car ,that i would promise you .   Some cant sell , some cave into letting the customer control ,

Some cant prep , others its natural ,

Lots to learn in this job Akhtar , its not BCA Gold card + Catalogue + Wave arm in air + get car and sell it . YOU Have to work at EVERY part of this job and it has to run in your blood veins .

Good luck by the way , All the very best .

    Well Put Mr H ! 100%

    I have to disagree Umesh.

I, probably like a lot of others started part time.

    Why wouldn't you?

You have the income security of your job whilst you get set up and start the ball rolling.

2 years is a very long time, I did it for 6 months until I believed I was as ready as could be to jump into it full time.

Two years part time in my opinion is a long time, you have to try it 'part time' to find out if its for you or not, or learning, absolutely agree with you! but you have to decide if you want to make a business full time or carry on dabling 'part time- full time' if you get my meaning.!

How many of you are finding car gurus is retuning more leads than autoraper? We have been on car gurus for 2 weeks now free package and is out performing autotrader by miles

is that simply leads :) or actual leads that lead to sales? ( Personally not on there but interested to see)

  4. Depends on what you wany as already mentioned lots of options, I use the back end of click for stock feeds and use the Click Engage on my websiite. Great company to work with in my personal experience.Have a conversation with them all and make a decision on what suits you best.

I think its still very easy to get ripped.

I always think there are loads of garages out there that are awful yet people will transfer us £10k /£20k /£30k without ever having met us and get a delivery a few days later.

Was thinking exactly the same over the weekend. delivered a car to an elderly couple who sent full money two days before after reserving on line on click engage.!! Sadly many will get taken in but this couple did to my driver, it was the reviews and video that gave him full confidence, sadly both can be fabricated on line these days!

  6. @Nick M.K. Music & silent movies are a NO - NO ! as far as I'm concerned. Need to voice them over, It really is easy, none of like our voices played back but just remember when customers call you or speak to you face to face thats what they hear, so a voice over will make a connection and they recognise your voice on the video, builds trust.

I'm a tickler for 'exact mileage' its one of my 'OCD' No car , or very rarely is it 30,000 exact ( had the odd one or two on exact, think it looks better with actual' and a photo of the mileage/ speedo. ! otherwise all good sir!

  7. Every car ready to go serviced / MOT if required... Most of them not worried if it's got 9/10 months MOT on collection. Think I had one last year who wanted 12 months it had 9 but willing to pay £50 for peace of mind.. cup of coffee,  car in the work shop 40 mins later we're both happy :) !

Personally don't understand some who put cars up for sale then put it through the worjshop after selling it. None of know of hidden costs so surely better to get it prepped , yo uknow the costs and the car is ready to go. Customers love the fact its one journey local or national most want to drive it away same day, instant - money in the bank, stops them shopping elsewhere , cash flow ++++ Not rocket science IMO!

. HPI is not fool proof..

Absolutely ! Bought a car couple of weeks ago, customer had already told me there was finance on it-  HPI no record - All clear, Hitachi Finance not registered interest on the vehicle so ask as well and hopefully you'll have a purchase invoice which the customer also signs to state such.

  9. That's a lotta lotta reading !

In simple terms AT are market leaders, it works for some not others , it costs an arm and leg but as long as dealers pay the the BIG AT Bill and make profit they're happy.( Happy only in the sense they sell cars from it !)

A Lot of consumers only check AT 'the brand' is strong, others have come and never taken a slice of the cake, IMO they have not listened to dealers only done what they believe is right marketing.

Look at motoring - Mr Murdock's baby I belive he spent more than 50 million and then binned it and moved on, if that doesn't do it then others will struggle if they try to take on AT, Car Gurus is trying but yet again they are not listening to the dealers, they have their agenda and we've already seen ( I'm not a customer of theirs even free!) they are hiking the prices and not selling loads of cars from what I'm told.

In simple terms the cars have to be where buyers are looking, so the magin wand, if there is such a thing is 'where are buyers now searching' ??

    Well that's my 2penchworth!

  10. As said just make sure everthing is place and easy to follow, they are just doing their job.

Had my inspections and found them fine as long as you're fine with them, one of them told me he visited an engineering company middle of winter a few years ago, so the owners thought they would be cleaver put in a dark cold corner... he simply said I'll do the inspection at the office and you'll have to bring everthing to me which then took forever and the hassle as he would call the owners to come to the office and went on for week! The power's in their hands.

He had booked two days with me in the letter, day one by 1.00pm he said I done and went and thanked me for my assistance and tea :) ! Just make it easy for them.

  11. I've always done local presss and it definately works for me, its built a 'local brand' for me for buying selling car. It's not always instant results a long term strategy, and whilst every other dealer has gone internet only in the area there are still lots of people who look at the papers then go on to the website and buy locally. Being local more chance of repeats and recommendations plus service work for the workshop and if there are any little issues easy to sort out.

Doesn't work for all I know couple of dealers who tried to copy my ads few years ago and after 3 months gave up and pulled of the papers!

Got a guy who sells our px rubbish on face book and that is working for him , nothing to do with me though , the stuff they buy on there is AMAZING , Filthy , not working rubbish sells on facebook and the dopes think they have a bargain . Heard him on the phone and he's just point blank rude to the buyer , get down ere now an u can ave it mate , but dunt mess mi abowt or u cn piss off , they actually go to see him after that torade of abuse as well :o and buy the scrapper

Spock is useless zero sales Very amateur approach they have , Playing at trying to hopeless and achieving it  .

AA useless , zero sales , just hopeless

Gumtree useless , zero sales , needs to be CHEAP on there

Car gurus had me upgrade free over Dec /Jan   " useless " zero sales but I HATE their approach to telling all to everyone .

    Dec /Jan Autotrader sold 48 cars + 3 today .

Cant see any point in paying to advertise TWICE on different sites . So Now its Web site sales via Google search and AT only + any local lookers who walk in and previous buyers .

AT is expensive , you have to know your mkt to use them effectively I think , But it works for us .

If it didn't I would look at something else  .

Very concise feedback Mr H. Appreciated. Thanks everyone keep em coming, good to see feedback and the pattern that most of appear to have with the platforms. As I've always said if it works keep paying, when it stops working bin it and move on regardless of little it cost.

I hate CarGurus but like AT. I especially like the fact that they don't display Above Market like CarGurus does.

I actively use HPI Spec Check to increase the "marker" value of my stock (something I wasn't doing before) and as a result my sales prices and my margins have increased slightly!

Been using spec Check for probably 3 years best thing I ever found out, helped me make more money , forget the price markers and pricing to be cheapest, find the full spec shout about it and you can get a lot more .. as Nik says with his example.

Its not always 100% on every car but a massive help with most cars.

For sake of few ££££ you could make hundreds if not thousands.

  15. Value markers on AT / Car Gurus

This could be controversial but just curious to see what everyone thinks, value markers I believe are misleading but that’s for another day!

Some of you price cars on these platforms to get the markers BUT if the markers say ‘below market value’ surely these dealers are giving away ‘profit’ why sell below market value (of Couse we don’t always know the full story of each car hence I disagree with the markers) we’ve all seen cars sometime thousands ‘below market value’!

If you haven't already join the Independent Motor Dealers Association (IMDA)

One of the benefits is an offer they have with Aston Lark for members. Not only did I get a cheaper renewal I got a higher level of cover.

Joining is worth every penny of the free membership fee.

Thanks David and Rory , Aston Lark have saved so many dealers so much and better cover it's amazing, the package they put together for The IMDA members is just amazing. Great guys to work with.

  17. You can just image the garage woulf have quoted a few hundred to fit new pipe's , customer declines and then goes around shouting I got done it for a tenner and the garage wanted to charge me hundreds - they're all rip off merchants ...... you can hear the conversation in the pubs - can't you !! #shocking #deathtrap
