  1. LOL, they always were horrors. if we were busy enough we'd send them to Gravesend Transmissions lol, "They specialise in the CVT sir" I'd tell the billy ....................... Ho Ho Ho, I never did like Graham at GTS !!
  2. If it's still going strong you didn't dodge a bullet lol, more like an exocet missile LOL. I did a bunch back in the day, Fords Fiats Nissans etc Fluid on it's own is a lottery, rarely fixed them long term, at the whining stage yours was at I'd say Fluid and Filter and it'll be good for at least 6 months a year ............... Thing is this, the whine noise is Pump starvation, shit in the Oil and Filter makes it difficult for the Pump to draw Fluid, hence the whine. But ............ That shit had to come from somewhere, usually something breaking up !! HTH, Cheers Dave
  3. Not so up here, but when I was SE I always used to find that the Motor trade was famine or feast !! That's why I started buying and selling, I'd buy nice Cars with stuffed Trans and then when workshop was quiet we had work to do, money came back in when they all sold Buying some work basically Good thing about that was we didn't "Dress Up" those Transmissions with Paint etc, so they didn't get a 12 mth Warranty, just whatever warranty the Car was sold with at that time Usually statutory
  4. Yes, but most warranties these days on anything, Stereo, Bicycle, Microwave, etc etc, they either send their own guy out or RTB. If I don't know or like the look of a Billy I'll write RTB on his Invoice and get him to Initial It. When I was South running the Gearbox firm, all Transmissions had a "Free Warranty" printed A5 Certificate, and Billy signed to say he read and accepted the terms. Terms were RTB, no incidental costs like Hotels, Car Hire, Recovery etc etc, strictly Parts and Labour !! You'd be surprised, (well maybe not), how much of a twat a Billy could be when I'd charged him say £1500 for a Rebuilt Trans in his old Renault 3.0 Espace and then it shat it's pants 11 months and 27 Days later 'cos he'd been towing a really heavy Caravan / Speed Boat up hills and passes in Windermere on the hottest day of the year with the Car full of peeps and luggage !! If I so much as saw a tow bar they were quoted an extra £250 to fit additional Trans Oil Cooler Kit, and if they refused the Free Warranty was reduced to 3 months !!
  5. Couldn't agree more, I've been in this trade all my life. Luckily these days I'm aklways booked in the workshop in advance and the few Cars a month all but sell themselves. It will all come good !!
  6. I just buy a big section of plate and cut the pieces out I've done enough Land Rovers that way,, but I'll only weld them up if it's localised section, if the rest of Chassis isn't far behind the fooked bit then I don't wanna know
  7. "Spleen" Bridge is outta my area lol but yeah, lotsa MacDonalds over there, I used to do a regular DJ residency in one of the Hotels near there Yeah we do have some tossers up here, usually Engleesh from Plockton, only yesterday I turned one away telling him i was booked up for 8 weeks lol, reality is booked for 3 weeks
  8. Nah, Billy had it 2 weeks when the Battery died, I'm with Del Boy on this one initially, he did the right thing. I would have paid for and fitted a new, decent, 3 yr Warranty "Oldham" Battery from factors !! However if he wanted to go elsewhere I would have told him " A decent Battery is £xx and I would have fitted it for nothing, if you choose / chose to go elsewhere, all I'm paying is the £xx !!" If after all that he tries to be a w@nker with his £180 invoice then ............ "Feck off you brain dead c*nt" Thankfully I don't get customers like that !! More likely one of my Customers would have offered to go halves
  9. Been looking at this for a while. As far as I know, there is no Law that says you have to own / use a Computer, Mobile, Tablet etc in UK. If I am forced to do this I will simply shut up shop and retire !! I suspect a lot of our Rural Sole Traders / Crofters will do the same BIG BROTHER SOCIETY FFS
  10. Which is exactly why I don't have a web site and don't sell very much via EBay, your "cretins" sums 'em up !! I gave up on the Website thing years ago, when we had the Transmission firm, never ever did all the stupid questions turn into someone spending coin on a new G/Box
  11. /\ /\ /\ but surely that is a National Average, or does your "Algorithm" work on a region basis ??
  12. Yes Nick, I would totally agree with your assumption but algorithms don't work in the real world, (as I think you know), .................... ever tried bunging a monkey at "Bit Coin" The whole problem is something like the "World has gone mad", well at least the UK lol. FE, you can't sell a 10k Car to a Shop Assistant in a depressed area, 'cause he simply can't afford it. A Shop Assistant in Greenwich could probably afford it on HP. But as a Dealer, if you know your area, you can buy the same Car from, say another shop worker, for a lot less, and then valet it and give it a freshen up, a service & new MOT and sell it to the original Shop Assistant for a decent profit Location location location, know the locale
  13. colacharlie, Right off the bat I'll tell you my sales are a total different ball game...................But................. Back to basics .................. Listen to the advice given by guys who sell far more cars than I do, BUT..................... Apply the "AREA" equation, so look at what xyz is selling for what $$$, £££, YEN, etc, (it don't matter), in your area ................... Then buy it stupidly low and sell it for high margin, you won't go wrong. If you're looking for a guide that will suddenly make you a billionaire overnight, then forget it, go sell golf balls to golf addicts etc ................ You simply cannot say that, (for example), you are in London so a 2010 Range Rover will sell for x and the trade price is y so I'll make z profit ..................... Glasses Guide, CAP etc used to apply years and years ago, but in this day and age it doesn't .................. Simples If we all did that we'd all have gone skint long ago, and anyone who's been on here a while "should" "maybe" "might do" tell you the same if they're being honest................ You're the man making the deal, just make sure you're the man "maxing out" the GP HTH,
  14. Had to laugh, I had an 06 Diesel one, px from a month ago, Owed me ~ £210 with a fresh MOT on it. A guy phoned the other day and said he would be straight round, I really thought it was sold, but he didn't show. Same guy called in here this morning, full of apologies, (fell off a hill, dog died, curried guts, granny shat the bed etc etc), but he had £900 in his hand and drove it away That's 3 this month so far, so a busy month for my Sales I'll have to get some of the stock Cars fixed and tested now !!
  15. LOL Phil, we've done that to death on the "Labour Rates" Thread No such thing as a free lunch !! If I were you I'd look through some Classic Car Magazines and see if there is any recommendations, Classic Car Forum perhaps ?? HTH, Cheers Dave
  16. Out of 225 UK Cars, 217 are in Scotland Big surprise are they getting freebies ??
  17. 2 diesels so far this month, C Class 2004 and Vito Van 2009

    BMW E90

Citroen / Pugs have to by law give you the PIN code Customer last week had had the Van (Berlingo) from new, but lost the "Credit Card" with pin, Dealer didn't wanna give it me, but after getting at the Svc Manager they did. With the right "Eepromming" technique, you can also get the PIN from a knackered BSI too, my Virginiser man confirmed it for me, just in case lol So you must be the Renowh CAN Clip expert here then, I'll shout when I get aggro
  19. /\ +1 You sold the car very quickly and for a decent profit, could some of the others ?? ................ Jeez, some of 'em come here moaning they haven't sold anything for weeks, some have had a Car for months + ......................... FFS, I'd have parted it out, dug a big 'ole and buried the rest long before then
  20. Just buy a new VOLVO, MB, VAG etc and make all your calls via the handsfree in the Car......................... All data is uploaded to Factory server, so Police, Insurance, Revenue, in fact anyone with a justifiable reason can then get access to Calls, Speeds, Location, whether you've had a Coffee break on long journey, driven it like a twat etc etc etc................ I sh!t you not !! ........................... Insurer recently refused to pay out an a 3 month old Van that a mates employee stuck down a ditch, driver had driven it 300 miles from Glasgow to Skye, and looking at the files the Insurers produced he was Speeding here there / everywhere, pulling 2G round this bend, overtaking at a blind bend etc etc etc,
  21. /\ /\ /\ love it, Coffee on Screen again
