If you are going to Retail Automatics, the secret is to find and look after a Very Good, but also HONEST Auto Trans Firm, many of the boxes Nick Mentions do not actually need a full rebuild, usually a simple fix like rebuilding shift motors with new brushes stuff like that, trouble is a lot of AT Specialists work on selling "units" rather than doing a repair with say a 3 month warranty When I had my Trans Firm, we'd much rather do a Repair (on a box that was actually good internally), thatway we only had to give a shorter guarantee on the repaired item, so we wouldn't be waiting for the Monday morning brrrrring brrrrring :- "Since you did my Gearbox" Call for 12 months Very Good, but also HONEST Auto Trans Firm is a very rare animal

Fuel Quantity Control Valve .................. Does it have one ?? If it does I'd look at that first .................. Mercedes uses Bosch Pump, they have Fuel Qty Ctrl Valve, and that controls fuelling on Cranking, not Rail Pressure, a bad one will cause the same issue on MB's Dunno if this helps, but it sure fixes MB's with Bosch, but as Tradex correctly said, a guy who can read live Data would certainly save you a bucket load by proper diagnosis rather than guesswork / Parts Darts

Fella down the road has a Honda CRV "Highbill" I scanned it purely to reset a service light for him, but jeeeeeeeeeeeeezus .................. That thing has got like double the amount of Modules, parameters and settings that a Modern S Class has .......................... My S Class is a 12 year old model, and not quite fully loaded and that has around 70 separate modules !! You would not believe the many hundreds of Parameters I could have fockedwit on that Honda ......................... Plenty of potential to irreversibly FUBAR said Hybrid when it goes in to "Mickey Motor Mick's" backstreet Garage, or Quick Fit Up / Halfrauds etc etc +1 I, being a dinosaur and loving big V8 and V12 Motors, with huffers and 1000 + Nm will be suicidal when the nanny state says I can no longer use my Cars As we all know, the general public "clone brigade" is being indoctrinated with "it's bad for you" and "it's not safe" to the point where they actually believe this shit !! Hell, they are even teaching all this "Dangerous and Harmful ECO" bollocks in our Skools now !! And why doesn't the CO emissions of said ECO box include the emissions from the Power Station when they are charging the fuckers, not to mention the "Environmental Damage" done when Mining the Lithium for the Batteries !! ..................... From Piston Heads :- Had mine sorted with Bentley Birmingham..They picked my car from N london and gave me courtesy car.. the whole job was about £650 which included free health check.. thought that was good value considering some other crazy quotes I was getting! I actually don't think that is too bad for a Bentley ............................ I recently bought just the LED Lamp Assy for an MB and that was ~ £360 before labour !! Nope the Merc didn't need the Rear Window removing, but it was still a cunt of a job. All things considered, not too bad on the Bentley £650 all up ;).

Nice one I remember back in the late eighties, a Builder relative had an old Transit, rotten underneath, so I got him an MOT from the local well known iffy MOT brigade. Relative kept it 4 months then sold it, the new owner got all stroppy with the MOT guy, who then tried to get all threatening like, and insist I repaired it or we'd all get our fingers burnt I got a bit stroppy back and told him to fuck off and repair it himself, he was the one who passed it, and anyway all he had to do was state that it wasn't in that condition when he passed it, (it was a lot easier back then without pooters) !! He did repair it AFAIK lol. Jeez, I've just started reminiscing, I now realise I could write a book about the SE London / Kent Motor Trader "Character" stories

I took Mel out last night wen't in her Car cos it was nearest the House As I drove out onto the main road I noticed no power, diesel knock and some smoke out the back ............. Fuck !! Turned round in the Filling Station, drove back home 200 yards and parked it up no Fault Lights, would barely rev, Idling sweet. Took her to the shops in the E Class, and upon return I plugged the Snap On in for a quick look see, still wouldn't rev, diesel ping and smoke No Fault Codes ............... Well that's the shit Snap On, I thought, I'll run it on SDS in the morning ...................... Before I went in I opened the bonnet, popped off the Engine Cover and had a good look round, then down the side of the Airbox, down low, there I see a tiny Circlip sitting on the Under Tray, and the Rod between Turbo and Actuator Motor dangling free I slid the Rod back onto the actuator with a very long pair of pointed pliers, fired it up, vroom vroom, fine, until it rattled off again on Idle due to no C Clip Fished out the C Clip with Magnet, to find it fell into 2 bits, broken in half, so this morning I'll rip the Airbox off and refit with a new 5 pence C Clip There we go, simples Shame it wasn't a Billy's Car, i could have milked that job

Simon's model is excellent, works for him, but then I feel Nick is selling the right Vehicles for his location, too many variables depending on too many factors in this game.
