  1. Up here we often find that the "Advise Front Lower Swivel" etc from 3 years ago still hasn't been done, it was just taken to a different, (mates) Test Station for it's Test !!
  2. Multi Valved Supercharged Quad Cammers and a good filthy woman
  3. LIKE all Sill repaired with filler, well, it may have been a dent, these days Tester is not allowed to dig it out Yeah bollox I know
  4. +1 for DSLR, I have Canon, but yeah, for Forum Pics the files are too big, so I use Samsung ST66 Point and Shoot, mind even they are too big for this Forum, hence I don't post pics I used to use a host, then they shut it down, all my pictorial how to fix xxxxxxx threads on forums then became useless

  7. /\ /\ /\ +1 There is a satisfaction in working for yourself that you never get as an employee I have only ever had 2 PAYE Jobs, one when I was an Apprentice and then more recently one for 2 years at a local fleet owners, after I had Re-Located to NW Scotland. I didn't / don't need a job, but that was only to get away from my outlaws who I built a log Cabin for on our land 5 years ago........................ They thought I was just their skivvy / taxi driver So I took the job, then I realised how much I missed the Motor Trade game, and working for myself ..................... Sweaty Sock fleet owner is a right weird guy, he's ok, I still do jobs for him at my place now, at my rates, but he was a knob to work for. So I extended my private workshop, bought a load of extra kit and started another business Good luck with it I say, and I know you're a different area / ppl, but my advice is don't buy something for stock unless you can get it for buttons, you already have the infrastructure to fix 'em !! I buy late reasonable mileage SOR's with what would be a hellish expensive (at retail) repair cost My first Sales Car up here 2 and a bit years ago was a 2 owner 06 Yaris mint body and inside, (filthy tho), girl had run it out of oil, bone chucked out the cupboard !! Paid her / her dad £100 ............. Guaranteed used engine £400, couple of small MOT Jobs, Service & Valet, 8 hours work over 3 evenings, and sold within a week £2495 that's a £1500 + clear profit That's when I jacked the job and went back on my own. It's still running around today, I service it these days
  8. If you end up paying 40% tax as a Sole Trader then you have the wrong Accountant
  9. Nice one, I love stuff like that I currently still have a road legal fully prepped Special Stage Rally Car I scratch built a few years ago, a Ford Puma, 3.0 24 Valve BOB Cosworth V6 Engine and Cosworth 4X4 Running gear, the entire pic heavy build is on Puma People Forum Started build in April 2010, finished in Sadly hasn't had much use the last 2+ years due to 2 terminal family illnesses, involving constant travelling up and down to Kent etc Here:- http://www.pumapeople.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=100870&st=0 First Road test post #785, on 28th March 2012 here:- http://www.pumapeople.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=100870&st=780 Enjoy the looooooooooong story
  10. Absolute touch Of course as this is on a Public Forum I forsee an epidemic of spontaneously combusting BMW's all over the UK Now, where's that propane blow torch ??
  11. Hi, I wish you all the luck in the world, you have a nice set up there at your disposal already, you have experience of the game, so you just need to work at it and get what you want from it !! Some others will slate me but if I were you I wouldn't fuck around with the old shit that you can only earn £500 out of, I will not buy a Car if I can't steal it and have at least a bag out of it, and most of the stuff I buy and retail earns at least £2k. I would rather sell less, but better quality Cars, than have all the cheaper stuff that gives you a bunch of aggro together with the sort of neds who buy £1500 - 4k Cars and think they have bought a brand new Car. Trouble with that is, in more populated areas you have much more competition and therefore buying, (for the right money), later sub 70k mile stock that needs a bit of TLC is hard. Oh, and as for crud px's, SOR it, retailing that shit is just a nightmare waiting to happen
  12. Agree with all of you !! It's disgusting that's what it is Trouble is, if the Mechanic is any good and got half a brain he will not work for the peanuts he gets PAYE, so he will set up on his own as an Indie specialising in whatever............ >> a year or 2 and he will be booking 2 to 3 weeks in advance, just like my own Workshop, currently booking for mid November now. I actually don't want to be this busy, but I'm not knocking it !! I have a ton of my own stuff to finish off. I would take on a decent Mechanic, but there's the rub, can't find one .......................... I wouldn't employ any of the "so calleds" who live round here, I see there pathetic and sometimes downright dangerous repair attempts a lot, as their customers end up through my doors !!
  13. I hope she isn't expecting you earn that in your first year !!
  14. 50% plus of Mechanics are un qualified know nothings !!
  15. NO !! Have you scanned one yet and seen how many ECU's are controlling the whole chebang I have There's one lives in Plockton, (about 14 miles from me arrrrrrgh !! Along with the odd flux capacitor
  16. That is exactly what it is, it is built to last it's lifetime which is 80 to 100 K miles !! And that is assuming, as Nick rightly said, that some tosser hasn't been running it on Aldi Oil, because his mate down the juicer says Oil is Oil, etc etc !!
  17. Absolutely !! I think the only reason that Mercs and BMW's have a bad rep is because many many Mechanics do not understand them, and the only way they work is by playing parts darts, and thus expensive repair bills give them a bad rep !! VAG, like some others, have models to avoid, but again with the right mechanic / Parts contacts they don't have to cost buckets to fix. Anything post 2000's is a cunt to repair, and the newer they are, the more complex they have become, it won't get better, will surely get worse, you wait till ya all start playing with Hybrids and Electric Cars, we are all gonna have to at some point
  18. Bang on, exactly how I repair Sales Cars, and depending on the punter, sometimes used Modules etc on Workshop Retail work !! LOL I don't believe that 'cos I didn't, I used to be more grumpy Nope, all you need is a good Indie I think whoever that was, as you rightly said, doesn't have a clue, but they will be the sort of fly by night who will retail it, and then when billy brings it back they will tell him to fuck off !! You don't need to be a Mechanic, but a very good knowledge of the product you are selling is essential. Nick is correct, the more you know, the worse selling these seems, but it's not the problem that's the problem, it's how we deal with it. I honestly don't know how new guys in this trade stay in business, nor do I understand why the fuck they would want to !! The noobies must all think every Car dealer is having it off !! I have donkeys years of experience and contacts to get good used parts etc etc, but tbh if I didn't have all that no way would I be doing it That is exactly my buying model, I will not buy it unless it is for peanuts, thus a good profit ....................... Then if it shits itself within a reasonable time frame / mileage I have no problem repairing it !! Lower Sales numbers but much higher margins .
  19. That sums it up, very well put, it is of course the fault of all these know nothing wankers who make the stupid rules that tie us up in red tape !!
  20. LOL, you are quite correct, but they all mostly get used at least once a week, and I have a load of spare Batteries, which are quite cheap new anyways, I don't need 3 hours + life even one that only lasts 10 minutes would be enough to walk it from the Racking to the Roll Carts Docking Station I think a Dell is far more reliable that any of the Rolls Royce's I've seen over the years
