The £14 ones from Aldi / Lidl are very nearly as good as the CTEK - and at such a low price you can afford a few of them to have on the go at the same time

Paid £50 for a similar repair on Merc MTex in Birmingham

I remember a Ford Ka from 10+ years ago where it was easier to change the whole carpet

But we are on a decent run, only engine I'm actively avoiding in my regular stock is 1.6 diesel in Ford/Mazda/Volvo
Same DV6 engine isn't it ?

Got one of those glue guns , works on some dents but its in a box somewhere consigned to the never see again things you collect along the way in life .
£10 !? Is this his technique?

If its the left turbo I've heard of panels being cut out of the passengers footrest to access and welded back afterwards

Less these days evidenced by how much they sell for.
They used to retail for 2/3rds of a straight car. Now 80% and more

What did it make at auction ? £800 ?

It is meant to look like this :

Looks like it is all there to me. The top half is wedged into in front of the light and under the bumper

Sorry not trying to teach you how to suck eggs.

Worst tale he told me, newish beemer 7 series poor starter, but not always and worse when hot.....that car had battery, starter motor, ignition key interface etc.....£1,000s spent, multiple techs across it.
Arrived by low loader, drop tested battery fine, went for a start, nothing, but noticed interior lights went dim.....bingo, in what 3 mins?
.....can't remember which but was a engine/gearbox earth strap. That memory came back to me only a few weeks back with same problem.
Point being no kunt had checked the fu%king basics, no one had questioned why lights went dim etc.....first form stuff.
Again, inexcusable. Earth straps are the first thing to look at.
Had this with a friend of a friends 1 Series who was charged 1k to swap out a fuse box, the problem remained and they wouldn't listen to me.

Dave - even a cheapo £10 code reader would have diagnosed a misfire on a specific cylinder. Absolutely no excuse from the other garages.

bloody heck, what is it with these traders who don't read codes !?

Worth suggesting you start experimenting with an random orbital polisher for a beginner, over a rotary polisher which could see you going through the paint if you're not careful.
One on sale in Argos, seems reasonable at £35
Challenge Dual-Action Car Polisher £34.99 -
How many X-Trails Mk2 did you see on the road anyway?
Ignore, move on.

It's added a lot more than that to the value of BCA because of revenue multiples

Come on, First Line are a different category altogether !
I wouldn't take them if they were free.
Anyway, my point is don't assume the cheapest sensors are always Chinesium -
Swings and roundabouts. I have had Exedy and Valeo clutches in Japan Parts boxes , FAE sensors also Valet and Valeo thermostats when ordering the cheapest unknown, Lemforder power steering pump reboxed by Febi , Mercedes stamped parts from Febi etc
Helps if your are not in a hurry I admit in case you get cheap tat occasionally.

I got a lot of Bosch stuff repacked as 'Fuel Parts UK' you might be surprised.

If it still pops the code after that then yeah, may be chain stretched, but that is more a Vauxhall and Nissan thing rather than Toyota
Edit, Just priced Cam Sensor, 3 options, £17.00, £22.00 or £96.00, still hardly a fortune though, but i can't be more specific without Reg / VIN
If its Toyota 9091905043 theres a VEMO one (OE) for £18.59 off Amazon

2 minutes ago, Pip said:That’s what I thought but it runs as it did when new and engine is quiet. Not rattling like the Corsas do.
Only has to stretch a little to upset the timings.
Try sticking a new sensor on it, if that doesn't fix it.. -

We usually get lucky and bid on the weds / thurs and then fly up on the Friday morning. Auction is 10/15 mins brisk walk from the airport. I usually get to the airport 30 mins before the flight, hand luggage straight through security and then hop on the plane with a coffee, by the time it've drank it, time to get off the plane and head off to auction. Easy peasy
I don't find the Scottish sales that cheap except for commercials
