  1. Other than business rates help, [ which local authorities are awaiting instruction on ] i have seen no help, it is understood that it will be very difficult to work out, not being paye, but, there are 5 million self employed, wheres the help ? one thing i have picked up on is germany ? are giving 80% based on the last 3 years stated income to there inland revenue i beleive.
  2. Hate to be a doom monger but my own personal thinking is if people do not start taking notice of isolation, then we could be stood down in days, because what i have seen today with my own eyes in reference to groups of people is shameful. and our health comes before a depo ! And i guess if your not doing mot and repairs, then you are not really a "essential service"?
  3. my neighbours are elderly and in isolation, they have family, [who live 3 mile away ]so foods ok, and i have been in contact every 3 to 4 days to see if they need anything, one thing i noticed today was there family removing [household] rubbish for them down the road to there allocated wheely bin, made me think, so i contacted them and told them to leave rubbish outside there door, and i would shift it daily to save them storing it till family comes, i guess every little helps.
  4. Haven't got the guts to say it to your face though have they, scum. ______________________________________________________________________
  5. Might be just coincidence but roundabout dinner time round my house everybody was cleaning the cars ! hoover was out, spraying interiors etc, even the "very busy" women .Maybe they have looked across to the passenger floor while in a queue for tescos car park, and realised, might we get some cleaner cars in future ? good idea on parking cars up for 7 days.
  6. very good points raised by grant, pay the trades, back in work if we are allowed, sensible precautions, [ i have come across a few this week who have said " don't worry mate, i haven't got it !? " ] and grant is doing next week what i have been doing this week, filling holes with concrete .us car dealers can be a versatile lot, many skills, great people [ sounding like trump there ] next week i will be introducing the idea to my rent man of "payment holiday" but he is tighter than me but there will be closures all around me, it is a very sad fact indeed, keep strong
  7. Do not wish to cause panic here but, erm, are car dealerships still open for business ? well, erm, 2 top banks are not, visited two banks in my town today and one normally closes at 4pn the other one at 2pm, both visited at 12 pm, one of the banks 2 outside machines were out of order, the others machine was working but very slowly, no news on a rush on the banks but seen this = A spokesman for London-based HSBC said the bank, which operates globally with retail branches in the U.S., had not seen any change in cash withdrawal patterns. David Tente, executive director of the ATM Industry Association for the U.S., Canada and the Americas, said he had not heard any reports of consumers rushing for cash, but acknowledged that such a need could arise. "It would not be unusual in times of crisis to see that happen — people are going to rely on cash if they are concerned about being able to purchase what they need," he said. A spokesperson for UK Finance, a trade association that represents the banking and financial services industry in Great Britain, said it had not seen any rush for cash withdrawals. Officials said the UK cash industry, however, had contingency plans in place to deal with a range of scenarios and was closely monitoring developments
  8. How can we, as car dealers help the nhs staff ? Yes you may think i was going to say discounts and offers, but that might come across a little bit selfish, choice is yours, i have some ideas myself. What i am thinking is, look after yourself, think about your own safety, by looking after ourselves, do not be a extra burden on the nhs, drive carefully, be careful with chemicals, think very carefully about accompanied test drives [ all test drives are cancelled here, if it drives 100% for me, then the customer is told, if the vehicle is misdescribed as in driving, then bring it straight back for full refund] be careful with jump packs, etc. your advice on this welcome.
  9. What a great post, i wish you a speedy recovery, one thing you may wish to look into that may help other dealers that do finance [ i do not] there is a, what seems, exception to these rates discounts that are being offered, that may affect dealers badly, i have noticed looking at the small print [ covid 19 retail discount scheme] no relief if your premises are used for "the provision of financial services" might be worth chasing for clarity
  10. And for every car you sell a/t are giving away mats and flaps irony
  11. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-bill-summary-of-impacts/coronavirus-bill-summary-of-impacts 1 hour ago .
  12. Quite simple, if you are in contact with the public then you are at risk, that is us, end of..................... Be nice to see on here instead of bickering, about how you are actually dealing with it, are you doing test drives with the unknown ? i believe lawgistics have issued a form that the customer signs before test drive stating they have not got coronavirus [ joke]. what steps are you taking to keep your business afloat ? [read back and you will see mine]. millions and millions will have to stay at home soon ? maybe you have made no plans, and cannot get out of your house because you cannot find the front door because its hidden by toilet rolls ?
  13. thats a good price, i buy in 5 litre, about £30, autosmart rep doesn't call now, he is hopeless, so ebay, [ i know ! ] but if i bought 25 litre i feel i wouldn't be so easy on applying it if you understand ! as for customers who say i wouldn't buy a car whose engine bay has been prepared then goodbye !
  14. As in oh it doesn't matter what happens over there ?
  15. I have had 3 pre orders this week for cars, not needed till next week, i have got them serviced valeted tested and ready, my reason being i do not know what may happen next week, bear in mind also these customers may get laid off or anything next week, these customers are informed there cars are "ready" my other cars are all "ready" [bare one which has a twin] to go out the door, can i rely on for example my testing station to be open ? buying as normal, but a bit more cautiously, those 3 that are going out next week might be the last i see of cash for a bit, so get it while i can i guess, yes people always need cars, but this virus is not your usual "recession" high interest rate" and i have worked through them all, 35 years in this job, 60 next year, been there seen it, got the scars, hoping the good thing that happens is it hits the cowboys hard , and the non planners hard, then when we pull through, we come back stronger, harder, and more profitable.............
  16. Agreed, up down inside, everywhere compare the cost per 5 litres, bearing in mind you mix 50 50 finish with water then your seriously overspending on wd40
  17. Just received a text, from the nhs, i guess you have too, with instructions, this is getting quite a concern now .
  18. IMMEDIATE Interest rates cut half a per cent boe breaking news its only a flu they say
  19. never even thought about tyres totally agree, we saw today = trading stopped in usa, government saying it will get worse, supermarkets confirming longer opening hours for deliveries, and in 14 days [unconfirmed] anyone with a high temperature, chest infection, or "mildly sick" to self isolate, there maybe soon "nothing going on but the rent ". you may not be allowed to travel, and picking up a car is not seen as "urgent" remember, within 14 days you may not be allowed to give a handshake, and must be at least 2 metres away from the next person, so no accompanied test drives then
