  1. So you did panic Mikey.Never mind, you can tell your mates you have sold 50% of your stock over the weekend, you don’t need to tell them you have made nowt.......We have all been there..Good Luck !
  2. If you knew how good Cherry’s were, you would not be saying that.Great profit makers,100% mark ups were normal and they rarely came back.A friend of mine ran had a Datsun Cherry resurrection business. He rarely paid more than £150 for them. The Datsun main dealer considered them scrap, but he would buy 3 or 4 at a time from them twice a week. Two new wings and sills later ( £40) and he would knock them out for £500.....The good old days and it’s a pity a lot of you guys missed them.
  3. Not just our job,I was talking to an upmarket pushbike dealer yesterday and May is normally their busiest month. It is supposed to be a growth industry, however he told me it is dead.
  4. No one will know ?.............Good Luck
  5. Driving north on the M6 or any other motorway on a Friday during the day,did no one tell you Andy ?
  6. Yes,you have to put a lot of time in,usually hours at home the night before. No body said it was easy, but us old guys were used to working on the pitch then driving far down country late at night to attend some sale the next day.Now you can attend umpteen sales on line in a day !.....If you want to be a good player in this game, just work half days every day.....then the other 12 hours are yours !
  7. Hi Adam So where is the problem.Ex fleet higher miles stuff. It has never been easier to buy,you just have to do your homework properly then press the button. Most of the stuff our guys buy is £500-£600 above Crap Clean and they are for nowt, but I recall we bought a Wrangler last year and paid £3500 over Crap and that was cheap also.If you target 70 cars per day at various blocks around the country you will buy 3 or 4 and nick 2 of them........Anyone disagree.
  8. I was meaning what do you specialise in i.e,small up to x years,hi spec stuff, low or higher mileage,ex fleet etc,.....our guys do ex fleet upto 5 years 70- 100k miles which are bought on line.
  9. What sort of stuff do you deal in.How many do you stock. You are fortunate to have dozens of auctions within 90 mins drive.Do you buy online.
  10. Why would Delroy be refunding a Trader when he has a signed for mileage from his customer and his sales invoice to the Trader states the same mileage.Unless I am missing something,If anyone needs a partial refund for the 80k haircut, surely it is Delroys customer being the victim and not the Trader.
  11. I bet the oil leak is nothing.Reminds me of the time I sold our close friends a Metro so the wife could use it as a runnabout. It was mint, low miler etc.Hoewever a few days later they called to tell us about a severe oil leak and their stress etc.So I go round and there was a small spec of oil on their drive.I say thats nowt,it’s a Metro, they all do that. However our friend has OCD with cleaning and their loft is cleaner than our lounge. She could not stand the thought or the shame of having a small oil mark on her block paving which the neighbours might see.I told them to go and buy a new car and they did.
  12. Nothing to worry about. They are probably just establishing the chain since it was clocked.Just give them a copy of your sale and purchase invoice........If they ask any difficult questions ,just tell them you wil have to get back to them.
  13. Company policy ..Fraud Protection/ due diligence ...ask the punter to supply photo ID,passport and driving licence and 3 copies of proof of address ,bank ,building society and HMRC.........If it is a classic car selling for a lot of money, that would be different. What car is it out of interest.
  14. Hawkstone Cars.....100% per cent of your stock this weekend, well that should help to turn your business around. !
  15. You can’t dodge it.Our guys mainly sell late ex fleet stuff and for a while now they have been confirming the name of the leasing fleet and used as a company vehicle in their advertising...So if it says Ready Mixed Concrete or whatever you have to disclose it.There will be a lot of main dealers and nearly new supermarkets who have sold ex hire cars and described them as ex manufacturer management vehicles now looking at a huge potential liability.
  16. Yes.....So they will be restricted to late fleet stuff.
  17. Hi Mikey.....Don’t panic Captain Mainwaring ......you have had it a few weeks,it’s not like it’s had a birthday.Sit tight don’t reduce it yet,old Minis always sell.
  18. If this is right, the clockers will be back in force.Pay cash and provide false ID at the block, register it at accomodation address, get the new reg doc, give it a haircut, get a blank service book on eBay,fill it in and away you go.....You cannot make it up.
  19. Don’t trust them,in which case don’t deal with them........I am with Justin on this one......Heard this SOR story recently from an old Trader about his friend ,a hard working honest guy who ran a garage repair business for years. He also sold one or two vans which he advertised and displayed outside the garage.A trader customer gave him a van to sell SOR,some time later he returns it to the Trader as he could not sell it.He subsequently had a VAT inspection and the inspector wanted to know about this van as it was not entered in his stock book.He explained what happened and who supplied the van. However the trader who supplied the van denied all knowledge of owning it ( must have paid cash for it and not declared it )....HMRC persued the garage guy ( he must have had assets) and assessed him for a lot of money and he has had to close down and is now in ill health.
  20. As I recall, not having a current MOT is not an offence. However, using an unroadworthy vehicle is.
  21. If you have taken on a 60 car pitch and you can only afford to put 25 on,you said it is cheap so just go with that and build it up.SOR stuff can be a nightmare and you will just fall out with the suppliers.Every SOR Car has to be correctly recorded in your stock book whether you sell it or return it,miss out one or two and HMRC spots them and you are in deep shit.
  22. The bottom line is.....you cannot masquerade as a private seller. You need to nip this in the bud or your looking at full refund plus consequential damages and costs etc......It could get worse,he could ring the HMRC fraud line, they could then technically assess you for a lot of money and you have to prove otherwise.I have seen it happen.
  23. Retail it,you just might’ring the bell ‘......recently heard about a motor finance rep who has set up on his own.He has a small lock up and sells WAV’s ! and is doing OK.
  24. If we had more councillors like your friend who operate in the real world,it would make a difference. These public sector, college lecturer type do gooders and trade union types who appear attracted to being a councillors haven’t a clue so they employ consultants on big money to cover their back.
  25. I understand it is councillors who make these decisions.Newcastle has a skint Labour council and they have recently removed a lot roundabouts at busy junctions and replaced them with traffic lights apparently to benefit cyclists, traffic backed up everywhere at rush hour and few cyclists......10 years ago the Queen opened a wonderfull new central library. What we didn’t know,it was a PFI back loaded chucky deal and the monthly payments started at £150k and gradually increase until 2034 ! To help pay for it,they have had to close 9 local libraries. They are now planning to spend millions on refurbishing the council offices....
