15Cars 16 Posted November 3, 2019 After reading the prep cost post, just wondering what you non in-house folks would pay for the following: 2014 VW Golf 2.0 TDI Timing belt + water pump, 4 new shocks, disks/pads all round, oil, air filter, oil filter and MOT. MarkTVS 209 Posted November 3, 2019 I’d say about 8 hours labour discounting it from 10 as there’s a good bit of work in it so that would be £280+vat plus the cost of parts which would be circa £300?

15Cars 16 Posted November 3, 2019 (edited) Really appreciate the replies, thank you. My local workshop village workshop that do all my warranty stuff/mechanical work/PDIs have billed me £788 ex. VAT for this. To be fair, everything I stick in there is back out within 48 hours but usually same day. Cheers 15 Edited November 3, 2019 by 15Cars

Especially for a local rural garage with overheads etc.
15Cars 16 Posted November 3, 2019 (edited) Thanks mate, I'm approx 80 miles West of London I was starting to panic then! Edited November 3, 2019 by 15Cars
MAP 5 Posted November 3, 2019 I thought £850-£900, so £788 seems very reasonable to me.

Mark101 536 Posted November 3, 2019 (edited) I’m talking off the cuff of course. Discs and pads always amaze me how inexpensive they are given their function. I always use quality parts, not the cheapest. Mann filters, Gates Belts etc. I am lucky with my mechanic (he’s the one I am considering partnering with BTW). Last month he did 5 services and inspections for me £115 - I supply the parts and fluids (I have 45 gallon drums, well 200l in modern money). He is only taking on SOR gear now. A lot of these classic dealers work on SOR. I have done a bit of SOR (I have one at the moment but the vendor is a PITA, wanting daily updates - I have offered him £15k for his car but he prefers £16k SOR - madness). Stalker 180 Posted November 4, 2019 Anyone changing shocks on VAG group cars for slight misting of oil is wasting their money in my books. They all do it, brake cleaner and an air line will suffice.
