Citroen Help Please

Recommended Posts

I’ve got a Citroen currently with “DPF” scrolling across the screen. The car drives perfectly, is regenerating & the exhaust is as clean as can be yet the car still says there’s a problem. Bloody sensors/DPFs (take your pick).

Exactly the same here:

SERVICE followed by Risk of Filter Blocking - see Handbook.

Now, garage ran a test which measures gases either side of the DPF and it was showing green through the revs, so he didn't think it was the DPF.  I said and was conformed (apparently) by the Citroen guy to just change the DPF and eliminate that.  This must be a sensor issue, car drives spot on, dare I say I quite like the car and as for the customer - the nicest, most understanding customer I have ever dealt with.

I only sell petrols with few exceptions, but pretty much 'any engine' PSA engine fault will give a 'depollution fault' on the screen of a petrol Pug, which is techically true I guess.

Example, loose the power to the whole injection rail etc (looking at you potted PSA relays), bingo "depollution fault"....even though the thing can't even run.

I wonder if that same thought PSA process happens on the diesels...?

Interesting, this is the same car that we had to replace an injector - there were no faults present before that.

Exactly, get it read on PP for codes, generics may not see everything !!

Got a V8 Jaguar in at the moment, customer is a dick and doesn't understand that "Restricted Performance" can mean anything, it's just a message to say their is "Fault(s)" that need adressing and it has stuck itself in Limp Mode .....................

This particular pillock is priceless, almost a year ago he told me it can't be an Engine fault because it goes like a rocket, and he didn't want me to charge him for a diagnostic !!

I fucked him off out of it, he is one of the few locals who is an arse.

It's never been right since he got it, and I could tell it was only on 7 cylinders just by listening to it back then ;)

Anyway long story short, it's been to umpteen garages and finally came back here yesterday, and said pillock with his tail between his legs ......................

It's had a whole bunch of bits it didn't need ................... MAF, Throttle body, Lambdas etc etc, over the last year

I plugged it into JLR and whadda ya know ???

#5 (E) Ignition Coil and a set of plugs for good measure ................ Sweet as a nut !!

By fuck, you should see the bill I've given him

Put this quote on your wall/invoices Dave.

If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur. Red Adair

injectors overfuelling would be my first port of call, remember a code read wont tell you this, this is why i think you are looking in the wrong area, maybe a better technician needed?

Just so I look like I know what I am doing...

How can you spot an overfuelling problem.

I have driven the car a fair bit and had no issues until the injector, then after than this bloody DPF message.

Take the DPF guts out and drive it, if it smokes like a bastard... it needs fixed!

Joking aside... do you have the old DPF? You could gut it to see how its running without a DPF in .

LOL, you don't need to fuck around gutting DPF's , just look at the Fuel Trims in live Data, I'm pretty sure even a "humble" Snap On or Delphi will do that, and if your tech doesn't have one of them 2 or better kit change your tech !!

Back to Red Adair quote again

BTW, did whoever changed that injector actually Code it correctly into ECU ?? I here a million garages that say "Coding that's a load of bollocks" .............

Well they are the wankers talking bollocks, of course they need Coding, (if they are the type of Injectors that actually do need coding) !!

HTH,

I didn't see a quote, but the Jaguar was definitely Coil, I moved it to the next cylinder and then the misfire migrated with it !!

I only fitted plugs 'cos he has been driving it for around a year with a misfire, and I don't want it back any time soon for a #5 misfire, I also told the dick to remember there is 7 more coils all the same age / mileage :D Of course, he didn't want to put a full set on it

Mind, to be a bit fair, nor would I, there's just as much chance of a new Coil going tits up as one that has done 72k miles ;)

Our biggest local garage has a full spec Bosch, superb machine, but there is no c*nt there who can use it properly, if it says anything more that Crank Sensor Fault on a non starter they just send the Customer here :D

Learned the hard way about 7 years and wont touch any french car or cars with french engines again might sell well but nothing but trouble unless its an old peugeot 406 estate with the 2.0 hdi now that is a good engine :)

Trouble is, there’s so many using French engines (I don’t mind French and much prefer to German junk):

Jaguar

Mini

BMW etc all use Peugeot engines for example.

We just stock vw audi occasionally bmw got to look nice but saying that bought a Renault twingo renault sport 2010 60000 miles fsh just because it looked well and got it out at below price and was sold within 24 hours but wouldn't buy any french diesels. We had a mazda 3 in 1.6 diesel and the amount of problems it had only to find out it had a pug engine, never have we bought anything again with Peugeot diesel engines in. I suppose you live and you learn stick to what you know is my opinion

Le Frogs are just like Ze Hermans, (and anything else really), when you understand 'em they are easy enough to fix, and the usual "lack of maintenance owner know it all billies" is what kills them ;)

I claim exemption regarding anything to do with Frog |Fuse and Relay Boxes though ;)

Now they really were designed by a fucking moron

I once recall changing the RB 501 Sidelight Bulb on a Clio which is a bad enough job in itself .......................

I'm in the habit of leaving the Sidelights on whilst doing so, as the new bulb provides some light in the tight space in order to get the Holder back in the Headlamp correctly, on this occasion I popped the Fuse when inserting the Bulb in such a tight space ................

Not a biggie I thought, until I found where it was, underneath multiple layers within the Fuse ./ Relay Box, and an absolute arse hole to get it all to bits just to change a 1 pence Fuse ............................

FFS what utter wanker designed that

LOL, did anyone see the true story Film (on Film 4 last night) ...................... Deepwater Horizon, Well blew out April 2010, took 'em 5 months to seal that fucker up, and there were reports that it was still leaking in 2012 ..................... 210 million US Gallons leaked out over the 5 months .....................

I'm guessing that Concrete on the Sea Bed that failed was Chinese

Yeah, after I'd partially removed the wheel arch liner to see if I could get it from that end, only to find a load of gubbins in the way and no access to unbolt said gubbins LOL

It was 2 years odd ago now, so I cannae remember exactly, but I remember being on it about an hour and a half.

Thankfully I have no Renault Customers currently, I even bought Renault Clip Dealer machine just to ensure that sods law would kick in and I'd never need it :lol::lol:

I remember years ago having to take a Peugeot to the Main Dealer's so they could tell it it had had a new (Xenon) headlight -via connecting to the main frame in France or some bollocks. Think it was one of the first where we had to take the wheel off from memory to get it out.  Was one of the first I'd come across as I say and I remember thinking it was ridiculous.

Was it a Suzuki of some flavour that needed the rear bumper off for a bulb change, I'm sure I remember my old mechanic huffing n'ah puffing about it?

Rover 75 was first time I came across bulb change from wheel arch.

I hate it when i drop the buld inside the light unit and i cant get it, those big capless ones are the most annoying cos the magnet struggles to get them too! Then i end up with chewing gum in the light and sticky tape and pencils and allsorts.

Right.... Mark. Back on topic.

We have a Pug 308 1.6 HDI that has been plaguing the life out of us for a couple of weeks.

DPF filling up too quickly, EGR sticking, probably the root cause i reckon. Its soaking in Mr Muscle as we speak.

The give away for us, was when we turned the engine off and the EGR did its self cleaning process, it sounded like a barn door opening and shutting (No EGR codes have ever appeared).

Have you seen where the EGR is on this nightmare car?

Yes it’s not that bad to get the air box out and gain access.

Its easier to get at on ford cars with this engine fitted, of which we cleaned around 50 last year with zero comebacks afterwards.
