Those DSG gearboxes are a real pain and  its usually the Megatronic  part of the  gearbox that calls it a day, Probsbly the  gearbox internals are going to be serviceable but the software that  runs the kit is at fault most likely, Its a  virgin unit you are after rather than a cheap second hand unit, The VW diag will id the problem, Its a  known Problem on DSG and usually stems from missing the  gear box service as that`s £280

Good luck! I sell older stock than you but I haven’t touched a DSG in about 5 years when I could ‘feel’ a couple of 100K Passats I had at the time were not quite right. Tbh I was grateful they never came back.

As for the 1.2, that’s always been a piece of shit with either chain issues or valve/head problems. REPLACE with a secondhand unit, cross your fingers & avoid this engine.

Good old VW! Really are a terrible brand. Normally I would say clutch pack but you say you've done the clutch and software update so can only be the megatronic unit.

The 3 pot 1.2 are garbage sadly. Try 247engines ltd

the only economical way to pull yourself out of these problems is to source s/h

we all know this is impossible unless monies no object so the next way forward is to buy heavy rear salvage and get the box out of one and the donkey out of the other

of course the labour bill and the logistics will be a nightmare

please dont buy lightweight vw in the future as the last half decent car they made were a derby and even those needed the back arches clagging at 4 years old

sorry mate

The only thing I didn't see done to it :- Has has anyone reset adaptives / relearn, but that is a very long shot ;)

Oh, "Mechatronic" btw ........................ Mechanical / Electronic Valve Block

Quality products, sure are.....but 'poor' being the missing adjective.

;)

Coldnt agree more. Genuinely do not know how they keep their reputation. In our workshop we have had more late plate VW issues than anything else.

The auto box, i would just find a good auto gearbox specialist and put your faith in them.

With the engine, Just get the engine code from it, then search ebay you will find it goes in other VAG cars. I use a local VW breaker (Veedubs) little pricey but they always have the right parts.

They don't feel right even when they are 100% right so yours two were probably fine. Definitely rebuilt with new mechatronics at those miles. In the US they have 10 year 100K mile warranty. Shame they didn't extend it here.

They are playing parts darts with your money, don't throw good money after bad.....  ebay them "no reserve" to get rid, accept the losses and get the problems out of your life. You'll make up the loss in the next two deals, do it quickly and move on :) jmho

Swallow a pill, it will taste awful but soon washed away when that money back, turns a profit.

Ebay it, you never with that VW tat and VW gear attracts tight oddballs, whom think they can turn a pigs ear into a silk purse for a fiver.

We drop problem childs at the drop of a hat, first time hurts but gets easier with time, or after you've painted yourself into a corner and, what would of been a grand loss, suddenly looks like two.

Best of luck

Looks like a 4 k hit on the both never mind move on hey thanks for the reply

As Tradex, said, we have all been there. Dont just blow them away for pennies, try and fight them out i reckon.

The gearbox one especially... can we have a bit more background, why was the engine changed? Was it to fix this fault?

Really nasty, I feel your pain. I had a really nasty experience, very similar to yours. I sold a seat (180bhp) with dsg. 1 hour after I sold, the customer called to say the engine had blown up. when I got to the car, it was a horrible mess, piston had let go. So cracked on and replaced the engine, got the car sold a second time, only to be informed by the second buyer that there was an issue with the gearbox. Whenever the car was used in tiptronic mode and the car was driven hard, it would always drop down to 2nd. So if you had the car in 7th gear at 70mph and you boosted in tip tronic it would drop to 2nd. putting 2+2 together, id imagine thats why the engine let go.

I did manage to get the car fixed after taking to a dsg specialist. The software had got corrupt, so he replaced this and it ran perfectly. It did take a long time to fix and the specialist advised that most places would just change the mechatronic unit. If you want his details then let me know, but he's based in harrow. This is also the simplified version as its still very traumatic for me to go into too much detail! Never again though.
