Advertising on Motors

Recommended Posts

I had one of their reps come out today and was surprised to learn that their pricing is pretty much on par with Ebay. I thought they'd be inbetween Ebay and AT.

My biggest concern with them is their audience and that it seem 90% of their stock is from main dealers.

He showed me they have something like 10+ platforms they advertise the same stock and have circa 5m views but AT alone is nearly double that.

I honestly don't know a single 'normal' person who even knows who motors are whereas you mention AT to a 90 year old woman, atleast she'll know.

What are your thoughts??

Half the views for about a tenth of the cost sounds like its worth a try to me

Considering motors too but again does anyone really go to motors and not ebay/AT, im not convinced.

Years ago i sold 2 private cars and listed for free on motors and got zero interest comparer to lots of interest on the other 2

How much is motors?

I used Motors for many years when they where owned by (cant remember the name) but it was part of a newspaper group so it allowed me to put the old fashioned classified adds in my local evening post for pennies sometimes even a few free which was great for our local advertising, then they sold out to the Manhiem group and the phone stopped ringing i have no idea why they spent millions on tv adverts ect but the leads just dried up so i left.

and at the price quoted above they have knocked 50% off there rates makes you wonder why

The paper group was 'The Post' and it was thriving then, a lot of calls and good responses.  On par or just short of A/T.

You're right though, since the Manheim group took them over the leads and sales have dropped dramatically from them, I think mainly part of the BuyaCar.co.uk advertising spam it's now filled with.  The whole site just looks messy and awkward.  We still get 2/3 a month from it so it is paying for itself quite easily, just not the response we were getting a few years ago, it'll be nice if the site had a make over and made it easier for the customer to search for cars.

Go and try and find your adverts.  I bet you'll be spammed up with loads of BuyaCar.co.uk listings.

We tried Motors.co.uk

4 Months we were with them.

Had 2 phone calls from it, and 1 email from a site that they feed to - all bought, so not all bad!

They advertise out to over 200 different platforms I believe, if anything that makes it more frustrating that the phone isn't ringing as the cars are put out in a lot of different places!

Do people really use gumtree here to sell on?

tried it once. Hideous

Shame the old Pistonheads sold out to haymarket as always liked the original site. Dont even bother looking on it in the last few years

Have to say I agree totally with this. Was ok to start but then the tv advertising money dried out.

Aye; I can't remember the last time I saw or heard a Motors advert.  As soon as findandfund goes live I'll be switching my circa £200 a month to them.

Tried Motors for a period of about 8 months last year, I monitor religiously where I get my enquiries and sales from here are my results.

40 cars advertised. cost £3840 for total 8 months, 1 email, zero sales.

the rep regularly rings me up with free offers and trial periods. don't be fooled. complete and utter waste of time for me, good luck if you try it though, no saying it wont work for you. like all of these websites they all promise the earth and deliver nothing. I'd have expected if they do have half the buyers of the autotrader that id have got half the sales but zero!! not great value for money. Found out form an ex motors rep that they're on their backside, going backwards, struggling with cash hence no advertising. ask for a free trial

I used it for a bit and it went really downhill. Got rid of it.

They put me on a free trial not so long back and I have sold a few cars from it but not enough to make me want to actually pay for it.

Be surprised if Motors is still here in 6 months.

Mainly the autotrader yes, I don't dismiss anything and give everything a try for a while but make sure I track and monitor each and every lead and sale. every now and again I try boosting some ads on facebook and targeting but other than a few time wasters no sales as yet, think you must have something really specialist but its a lot of time and effort to put in. be interested to see what the motornovo site does but they should have chosen a better name

Well I've been with them about 2 weeks now.

The only call i've had is from them making sure the number works haha.

Honestly, the only site I actually get anything from is AT.

Notice given this weekend. Surprise surprise, all of a sudden a rep (another new one) comes on the phone asking for an appointment to no doubt try and blind me with data. Now I know it's not very popular to praise AT but compare that to my AT rep who also rang me yesterday with a 'I'll give you a shout as I'm passing through next week, if your there put the kettle on, if not no worries' comment.

Can't help but feel that Motors have missed a trick or two over the last few years.

I was speaking with the Kent old school family dealer last week about Motors, there contract is up end of the year, not renewing, sold zero cars from it.

We were talking about Motors, when he had a call on the sales phone, from a guy wanting a plumber of all things.

Apparently he tells me there is an automated message declaring this is a Motors derived call when the phone goes...then some confused guy asking for a set of taps:D

I've had this in the past apparently I'm a veterinary practice?!
