My Week So Far

Recommended Posts

I love my job, can't beat it, but this last week has taken its pound of flesh ( I have plenty to spare )

Mrs started with me on Monday, extra pair of hands, alls going to be excellent and hunky dory.

Then - 7, YES 7 Warranty claims / problems including a £1000 bill on a £1600 beetle and an immobiliser on a Mini that wont let the car start so looking like a buy back - I haven't had 7 claims in a year, let alone a week!!!!

Sold my oldest car in stock and made about £2.50 on my first Car finance 24/7 deal

Moved house so living out a suitcase and have boxes of crap everywhere that i didn't realise I had

Car I sold Friday last week being collected Thursday, so I decide to smash it into my roller shutter door when reversing it out thinking about the stunning week i'm already having - £200 damage

Caught a cold

Put on weight

Drank too much beer and wine

Not started training for that half marathon i have in September

Can I just go to bed and not wake up till Monday please!

7 Claims, !!! Wow that is rotten luck.

I work with my wife and we get on well, we have our moments but I would be over my head without her.

Thankyou for posting that Mat, makes me feel a little bit better, the mechanic started calling me boomerang motors there were that many were coming back :) it's Sod's law, nature of the beast, etc, good to know you've got a sense of humour that's the most important outlook in situations like this! Hope it all works out ok for you!

Ended up buying one back, however have found another car for him, so alls good and sold 2 yesterday too so actually not a bad week all in all. I must say I did sink a few brewski's on Saturday night and that gave everything a slightly different perspective... there are worse jobs I could have I guess!!

New week and new start. Positive thinking breeds positive results.....

my turn this week. Asked to source a cheap 3 series for a family friend. Found one that fitted the bill, bought it on a whim as it wasn't dear thinking if they don't want it it should sell anyway, took it to get checked out by my mechanic, parked it up on a slight incline where it stayed for about an hour then the next thing I know is one of his customers came in and informed me that they just witnessed the bm suddenly roll down the incline and straight into the side of an X5, it's blocking the road so it needs moving. Goes out to move it my bm needs a bumper and bonnet, X5 new passenger door and wing. Then my mechanic tells me it's one of his customers and he's just serviced it and you couldn't of picked a worst customer for it to happen to. We agreed last night that I'd pay to get it repaired at a body shop of his choice as long as the quote wasn't stupid therefor saving the no claims bonus. Man comes to see me today saying he's now lost confidence in the car and demands I buy it from him for full retail to which I replied here's my insurance details sort it out with them. His face dropped he was convinced I'd write a cheque for 17.5k there and then now he's got to play the insurance game and wait weeks for the repair if he'd of done it my way it'd be all repaired tomorrow as I'd managed to source a wing and complete door in in the same colour from a breakers. Look on the bright side at least no one was hurt

The words I always dread. I absolutely hate buying cars for family/friends, it always goes wrong for me. My sister is after replacing her ageing Fiesta and I know she's 'warming up' to ask me to look around for her. Not looking forward to that!

Sold an i30 just after Christmas. Customer left a deposit and was to return the following week to pick it up.

Went to move it a few days later only to find the battery flat. Jumped it, then decided I'd take it for a run to recharge the battery. About 3 miles from base while doing about 50 MPH on a straight road the bonnet blew up on the windscreen. (putting it down to stiff hinges and dodgy lock assy.)

Bent the bonnet beyond repair, creased both wings, destroyed the windscreen and creased the roof. Couldn't locate a used bonnet anywhere. Had to tell the customer obviously, who came back to view it again. My bodyshop was snowed in with work so couldn't touch it for 10 days. In the end it cost me almost a grand. Had to re-valet it again and fit a new battery, then call the customer back.

She came back, drove it again and was quiet impressed the half dozen tiny stone chips were corrected on the bonnet ;-)

Thankfully she still kept it, but needless to say I lost on that one.

(will be WD40-ing every hinge and lock from now on!)

Such is life!

sorting out a 11 plate fiesta 1.6tdci which is the 1.6hd pug engine in drag (cracking, reliable engine  Honest)

engine light on, scan says glow plug open circuit, check the relay - fine, so remove the glow plugs to replace 1.2.3 come out fine, all shity and near dead when tested, Great thats the issue then. Go and take last one out and snapped the end of the tip, which is now stuck buried in the cylinder head, looks like the head has to come off to get it out

Having  a right kick off at the moment with a customer, same car and same engine due to an EGR issue.

Useless engines.

I beg to differ. If maintained they are very good engines IMO.

Not many disasters here, well part from yesterday I came in to find my toilet floor covered in water as it had been leaking. No big deal, apart from the fact it had been leaking into  my safe which is buried next to it in the ground that houses all the car keys and some paperwork. Everything was soaked although I suppose I should be grateful as I had done some banking the day before.

Borrowed a van off my brother in law for a day and some guy hit the rear corner! This morning a Focus of mine has an ominous puddle of liquid on the floor mat under the clutch pedal:rolleyes:

They are a unreliable engine IMO but they have got this unit in fords, Peugeot Citroen Volvo and it's even creeping into fiats now.  I always flush the oil with forta oil flush do a service and a regen on every one. The egr issue is a pain, there a nightmare to get at cost 100 to buy and then pack up again 12 months later.
