Car Parts

Recommended Posts

Hi

I got Hyundai i10 2010 - nice car main dealer service history, MOT without any advisories. Clutch felt a bit heavy and took it my mechanic he said cables fine it needs a new clutch.

But look on Eurocarparts no clutches available. Other sites also hard to find .  Is anyone else struggling for car parts?

Yes. One local factor can’t seem to get clutches but the other one I use can. It makes no sense to me.

Heard there’s a big backlog on Kia and Hyundai clutches at the min for some reason. A neighbours clutch went on her i10, she’s in her 80’s and took it back to Hyundai to be told they can’t get the parts for 8 weeks, then she tried a local clutch specialist who said the same.

We struggled a couple of weeks ago to get a clutch for a Hyundai i10 1.2, none of the local factors had stock or any idea when they would get any either. We got one off eBay on the end it was just under £100 and we had to wait a week for him to get the stock in. He’s now advertised them for £119.

We are also struggling with headlamps, ended up getting a set for a Q5 from Audi, we ordered them with euro’s but after about a week they canceled the order as they couldn't get the pattern ones. The bonkers thing was the new ones from Audi were cheaper than 2nd hand ones on eBay. It really is strange times!!

I think them breakers on eBay are bonkers. Selling shagged out old parts & trying for strong money. I recently had a Vito that needed a few trim & interior parts - I’m not joking, fucking Mercedes-Benz were cheaper.

The new parts sellers are worse. I’m on with the third arsehole trying for a door lock barrel - I don’t think all these Chinese sellers know their right from their left. I also bought a new handle for something - it broke on the first pull .

A lot of eBay sellers trade on the ignorance of the buyer. They know that many buyers won't check the price of a new part and will make the assumption that a used part must be cheaper.

A lot of parts sourced from the EU are now more expensive because tax and import charges are being added. We used to order MB and BMW parts from a supplier in Germany. They offered 24 hour shipping and were significantly cheaper than UK suppliers with great availability - especially on electrical/electronic parts. Prior to Brexit there were no extra taxes to pay - but then last year we got hit with £80 of import taxes and 'collection fee' on a £150 part! So that put an end to that option...

It will be the cable , feels like the clutch has seized  itself , Cable rusts inside  outer cable and the joints seize . .

Trust me its not the clutch ,we done loads ,  i10 cable on clutch is shite .

Feel like a new car with a new cable

Agreed. Mechanic says cables fine but they are difficult to check. Often feel smooth when disconnected but drag when under load. Its fairly cheap and easy to change so try it first.

Bend the cable before checking it, make it the same shape as it is when fitted, then you will feel the resistance, a lot of guys do not know this very simple tip. Pulling it when straight will often not offer much resistance and fool people into thinking it is fine.
