Its amazing really how many traders still think its ok to do this type of thing. Scroll through ads on ebay and you will see large dealerships selling p/xs as spares or repair or trade sales etc. It really is as simple as write spares or repair on the invoice and its totally out of your hands !
-
Bit confused you said at first it was advertised with an MOT with a long expiry, and then you say it was MOT 1 month ago and failed? The seller does not not have to give any warranty but at the same time writing "spares or repair" on the receipt does not mean the car cannot be fit for purpose or unsafe. Especially if it was advertised as long MOT etc. Contact the dealer you bought it from and ask them to explain why it has "spares or repair" on the receipt and see what they say.

Do not sell cars on other peoples behalf. Buy the car into stock if you want it and pay accordingly.
-
How do you find these as sellers? I have just been offered a very nice looking petrol one, but i have not had a Saab in stock for probably 5 years or more, are they still popular?
-
Why would you bother with all the hassle? When you was asked if you could sell the car you should of bought the car into stock like any other car you would normally buy and paid accordingly for it. leaving yourself your usual margin. If it was not something you would of normally stock or would want to buy then you should of just said no to the customer and let them sell the car themselves.
-
You sold the car so you are 100% responsible for any comebacks. The fact that you only made a couple of hundred out of the deal is irrelevant.

In his defence he asked for some advice and was shot down by everyone. With a lot of insults thrown at him. If you read through the thread from the beginning you will see he was actually polite until he had nasty remarks thrown at him. The way i see it is if someone asks for advice (no matter how silly) either you can help them or you cant...if you cant then just dont post....simple.

There seems to be a lot of confusion with the CRA. The way i look at it is...the day the customer buys the car it becomes their property, ownership of the car does not transfer after 6 months ! Obviously as dealers we have a right to make sure the car is fit for purpose and safe, as Rory has said prep the cars well before sale...PDI and MOT preferably. Be clear on your warranty terms if you give one, set it out clearly so the buyer knows exactly whats covered and whats not. Be helpful but never be a pushover. Very thick skin required - didnt you learn this at dealer college ?
-
Why did you go ahead and repair the car without discussing who's paying the bill first? The fact that you rushed out to recover the car (which you sold 5 months earlier ) kind of just makes you out to be responsible for the problem. I feel you have just lumbered yourself unnecessarily with a repair bill.

Vehicle changes on V5c, log book in trade - HELP!!

If i remember correctly aftermarket seats fitted in the rear of a panel van do not get checked on an MOT. Unless things have changed? -
I could see the broker idea working with maybe very specialised stuff or very high end Ferrari / Bentley / Classic stuff maybe. A pop star or pro footballer for example who wants to buy a new car may well employ the services of someone to keep themselves anonymous and deal with the nitty gritty to actually buy the car for them, but to get set up in that position in the first place to where they trust you would be very hard i imagine. If you could build relationships with dealers that stock this type of vehicle whereby you retain a % of the sale price maybe, a bit like an estate agent. Possibly also charging the client a fee for your services.

I am currently in a text message conversation with a chap over one of our p/xs this has been going on for several days now. Basically got it on the bay at £795 and he has offered me £500 as that is all he has got. I told him i can do it for £650 to clear it and that is it....but...he only has £500 and has told me this now around 5 or 6 times and i have told him 5 or 6 times it needs to be £650. I am all for helping people out where i can but some people just do not get it do they ?

What kind of van is it ? Personally i would just remove the rear seats before selling or just leave them in but make the buyer aware that they have been fitted aftermarket. As far as i know rear seats dont come into MOT requirements in a van, i may be wrong but not sure about insurance. I think i remember hearing that there has to be a window for safety? again i may be wrong. My advice would be remove them to be safe.. -
I cant get in either, site must be down..was ok first thing this morning though...

If the auctioneers never bid off the wall then certain cars would never meet their reserve. Some auctioneers are much better at this than others though and its actually quite funny watching them sometimes...

The lad was'nt standing on the rostrum was he ?

if you are earning 37k a year in your day job then my advice would be stick with that ! Unless of course you really hate the job and absolutely love cars?
-
The only way to really get an idea of what a car will sell for is to actually sell one. This means going out and buying one to sell. Nothing wrong with doing research etc and sitting at the auctions all day checking prices but this game goes up and down so much its unbelievable. I have seen cars at auction selling for maybe 50% over trade "guide " price. The guide prices are useless really these days, the only time i really rely on them now is for valuing part exchanges as something to show the customer what their car is worth according to the guide.

What a suprise the warranty company has declined the repair !
-
Probably best to just google it...but basically as of 2018 tax returns will have to be submitted every 3 months.
-
Wait until the new digital tax system comes in...this could be a nightmare if you do not keep accurate records.
-
Everyone is doing it...thats half the trouble. Any tom dick and harry can pop to the local car auction buy a few death traps and flog them on facebook off their driveway...It has been said before but unless their is a bit more regulation on who can buy from auctions etc then it will never change and will only get worse..

I would reply 44 Just to confuse them a bit.
