Thanks AutoJacob. It was under a Ltd company, and now any policy going forward will be under a partnership. Wish I knew this before speaking to 3 separate insurers today lol. Thank you.
-
Thanks Arfur, that makes sense. Do you know anything about the legalities of the cancellation being under a Ltd company? (Which has ceased trading) Does it make any difference to the declaration?
-
Arfur, I have indeed bolloxed myself. I've been quoted one premium for £1979 from Impact Insurance...we'll see what tomorrow brings. I think we'll have to take one for the team this year. I just read somewhere that if the cancelled insurance was in a LTD name, then it's a separate entity to you. The cancelled insurance was under our Ltd company which is being struck off. The new insurance will be in our names and under our partnership. Does anyone know the legalities of this? Do I have to declare the cancelled policy since it was in the name of a Ltd company that we're no longer trading under?

iJSC1, I tried them, but they either came in as more expensive, or they couldn't cover me until Monday. I'll check them again if I don't square something away tomorrow, thank you. That's a good price for 23, I think I was quoted £4k trade when I was 29 (first ever policy in my name though) So just haggle them down? Thanks for that Justin, I didn't know! It'll help for tomorrow.

Thanks gentlemen. I didn't delay on sending proof of trading etc for renewal. I just genuinely didn't think that they needed proof of ownership of these 4 vehicles they flagged up on the previous policy a month prior. I'll put my hand up and say I should have sent it right away, but surely when I'm sending docs for renewal, you should tell me if I'm missing any. And to say that "it's a new month and the rates have gone up" to charge me £450 more than before is disgusting. Anyway, lesson learned. Justin, I thought the premium is set by the broker?
-
BHM, nothing after the cancellation to say they'd cancelled. It was sheer chance I rang them for the certificate, otherwise I'd still think I have insurance. Balls...
-
Lol Stalker, I never said I'm not prepping vehicles. I said they have minor dents and dings that I haven't fixed. Others in here reckon I should have them repaired. You're right though, I did leave it at the last minute, but they are w*nkers for not saying "Hey idiot, since you clearly want to renew as you've sent us half the docs, we need the other have to go forward". Not just let me make a mistake and cancel the insurance without a courtesy email.

Rant. Going into our 4th year with Staveley Head. A month before renewal they flag up 4 vehicles that we've been sat on for a while, and request proof of purchase and V5s. My mistake number one: Not sending the docs through immediately. They sent a letter saying the policy would be cancelled if I didn't send proof for these vehicles through by the 25th. Then the policy auto-renewed so I got various emails through to send proof of trading to avoid cancellation etc. The deadline as I understood it was 5pm on the 25th May. I sent proof of trading etc at 4pm on 25th and had a back and forth with a lady to confirm addresses covered. No mention of the previous requested documents. Yesterday 31st May I called them at 4pm to chase insurance certificate. Turns out the policy had been cancelled. (And not informed me, so was trading and driving around with no insurance for a week) I was told to send all the flagged vehicles documents through to see if they'd reinstate the insurance. I sent them through around 5pm last night. This morning they called me to say ok they can do me a new quote. But since it's now June, the price has gone up £500. From £1400 premium to £1870 premium. Total 2100 with direct debit. Argue as I might, they're not budging. Been on the phone all day with no luck with Roadrunner, Premium insurance, Bollingtons lines are down, and generally no luck with prices and no insurance. Oh, not only have they bumped the price up and aren't budging, now when asked if we've ever had insurance cancelled, I have to say yes, which bumps up our price with other insurers too. Literally overnight we now have to pay £500 more. Advice?? Even if I don't beat the price Of rather give the money to someone else now, but everyone is closed. Cars in trade are exempt from continuous insurance, but what do I do about moving vehicles for a test drive or something? What do I do for the absolutely necessary movement of vehicles over the weekend until insurance brokers open on Monday? Thank you

Had a bloke come for a car with his uncle or someone, and 2 little girls in tow. It was for their "friend". 2 hour viewing in total, including phone calls, taking photographs, test drive, waiting for their friend to come (they were viewing it for him, apparently) Friend turns up. Another test drive. I'd already told guy number 1 the last price, of course they tried to haggle me down. "Friend" says "The car's not my style, it's for Guy No. 1, but I'm paying for it, what will you do on the price?" At this point I start losing my rag. Eventually come in to do the paperwork and pay. Guy No. 1 wanted to transfer the money across, at 2pm on a Saturday. Except he doesn't have his card reader....or a banking app...or internet banking full stop. Eventually sold the car to him 4 hours later when he borrowed the cash off his friends. At least it ended well!

Jesus Christ...I can't imagine having that on my conscience.

Honestly we've never done them. Cars are MOTd and serviced if needed. Which is why I'm asking as I'm going to do them going forward.
-
Guys not to be a complete idiot, but who checks the car for PDIs? I mean does it have to be a garage or someone independent? Or can you do them yourself?
-
Mark could you explain that for me again please? If there are gaps in the history, they won't honour the claim? But if there are gaps in the history but you service the vehicle, they will honour the claim?

Been bitten twice with their Surechecks and EMLs. They have loopholes around them. Since they put the surechecks on at the Walsall site, they wouldn't let you check the gears, etc, because Surecheck covers first and reverse gear engagement. Because apparently they're the only gears you need. Bought a Focus from them (not surechecked) and the engine almost caught on fire 2 miles down the road. Billows of smoke and the engine was stuck revving on full until we managed to stall it and stop it. No return. Bought a Golf with a gearbox problem that was evident as soon as the car rolled (can't be checked by customer at auction, but was surely clocked by their drivers). No mention of it at auction, and obviously no returns.

Ouch.... My worst mistake has been reading your name as "Justina 3" instead of "Justin A3", and calling you Justina all this time.- 57 replies

Thanks Grant. It's not too often it happens, so it may be the start of it, or I may it just needs a firmer push on the brake than others. Fingers crossed it'll be alright.

Lol! I'd never thought of that. Not quite hanging off the doors, but you have a point.

Thanks everyone.

Jesus Christ. Did they use that as an off-roader?! Had a man message me about a Grand Vitara we were having a hell of a time selling. Had sat on it for 6 months. He was a Brit out in South Africa, and the cambelt had gone on his Vitara. I thought he was a scammer until he showed up. Lovely man, he didn't even want to test drive it. Started it up, "I'm happy with how it sounds", and came inside to transfer the cash. The viewing lasted about 2 minutes. Then you have the ones hanging off the doors and squinting at the side of the car to see if it's had bodywork done.

Hey everyone. We've got a 2010 Skoda DSG (6 speed) 86k, FSH but no indication of anything done to the gearbox. We bought it as non-runner and the gearbox needed recoding to start. The battery was faulty, and I don't know if that kicked the coding out. In any case, it runs fine, run it daily myself. Sometimes bangs into reverse a little, but 9/10 times it has no issues. I'd love to warranty this one, but we've changed about 6 DSG gearboxes since we've been trading. Even the gearbox repair guys ask us why we keep buying DSG boxes. What would you do with this one? We don't have any third party warranties in place, so any repairs come out of our pocket. I trust the car, but who knows with these boxes?

Recommend a reliable / trustworthy transport company?

Urban Vehicle Logistics though sometimes a bit pricey. Independent guys: GeorgeMartin off Shiply, good prices, good man. Again off Shiply a guy called Dave (Expressbargains65) he's moved 3 of our cars. He can only do one at a time though. -
So quiet here too. Got ours well underpriced, and still nothing. Been dipping back into the trade the past couple of months, and not sure this job will enough to support us for longterm. I may have missed a thread or be stating the obvious, but did anyone else notice a hit on sales the past couple of years when leasing really took off?

Depending on what it is. If it needs bodywork, obviously depends on workshop, lucky if we get it back in a week. If it's just really grubby, 1-2 days and it's beautifully clean. Bought a 1 owner Golf GT TDI though, looked like it just needed a clean and a new back seat, turns out the careful 1 owner had wrecked all the shocks, springs, and brakes....then the clutch broke a few days after. It took 2 weeks to get it all sorted. Lucky if we make £500 off the car after all that.

I hate these. Got a lovely 207 XS Sport in, really low mileage. Had it up for £2300, bloke came who wasn't really keen on it anyway, he'd seen other 207s with higher mileage and different spec for £1300, so he asked if I'd drop to £1600. Another lady came to view. She didn't have the money as she was selling her car and didn't know what she'd get for it, and "just wanted to check it out". What the F for?! What a waste of time!
