  1. Sorry to dig up this old thread but I'm thinking one of these little lithium jump packs might fit nicely in my bag of stuff to take when collecting a car to drive home. Is it still going strong? Been watching a video of a guy in Alaska jump starting half a dozen cars from dead with one of these. Considering the size and convenience of carrying it's difficult not to be impressed?
  2. It's interesting to watch private buyers checking a car at auction; focusing on the stereo and getting comfortable behind the seat!
  3. There's a bloke just round the corner to me who uses his girlfriends address and details to sell cars. I think he's sold more than I have this year. When I'm in the mood for mischief I will send him a message asking whether his name is in the log book or how long he's owned a certain car. He never replies but I bet he sleeps with one eye open! Interestingly my Polish guy is back in business too. He's got around 5 high end German bits, all rebuilt from salvage. He's got two old Passat estates. But he doesn't advertise anywhere I can find so I'm guessing he's tapped into his 'community'.
  4. But, if someone in your family was desperate to buy a car would you refuse to give it a once over?
  5. Thanks, yeah a pain. I was sort of hoping, bearing in mind there are effectively two seperate cats, that the bank would/could be relevant. But obviously shot down in flames
  6. Well, I know where it is but what one is it? On a 1.6 sigma engined focus it has twin cats each with its own pre and post sensor. The faulty sensor is indicated as Bank 2 sensor 1 (assuming that sensor 1 is pre cat and bank 2 is a hangover from vee engines). On checking prices all four sensors are listed individually front and rear, left and right. Am I going to have to change both or is 'bank 2' relevant on a twin cat system? Looks a bit like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-FOCUS-05-11-1-6-PETROL-EXHAUST-MANIFOLD-PRE-CATS-TWIN-MANICAT-HWDA/152974626738?fits=Car+Make%3AFord%7CModel%3AFocus%7CCars+Year%3A2005%7CPlat_Gen%3AMK+II%7CCars+Type%3A1.6+TI&hash=item239dff8fb2:g:pj8AAOSwQwZahWVn
  7. Well said. I was going to say 'lynch mob' but I like your reply better
  8. Is it just pure bad luck that the cars the vendors choose (for whatever reason) to surecheck, fail on serious points. I can't see how that would be an aid to selling? Better to not bother unless it passes with flying colours. The fact they they cherry pick the surecheck cars implies they are trying to exclude the problem cars?
  9. Well yes, we all know that. But, the vendors must be applying some thought process into whether a car is sold on a surecheck or not? I don't think they prefer to surecheck a car with 'issues'. Basically if you are going to 'cherry pick' the cars to surecheck make sure the cherry isn't a rotten one? Sorry, I don't think you understand the point i'm making
  10. I've been enjoying reading this thread but I wonder if anyone on here has ever been the 'expert/mechanic' who knows cars, brought along by a friend to do an inspection?
  11. If I were entering cars at auction I would only Surecheck cars that I 'knew' had a fair chance of passing. Because a fail is worse than not having a check at all? Even if the vendor gets an incredible deal, or if Manheim stand the cost in an attempt to promote a vehicle, a fail is worse? I wonder if the vendor can decide if the 'failed' surecheck is mentioned or thrown in the bin?
  12. Oh and a top tip on Shiply. If you have to pay extra for two guys, make sure the other guy actually materialises! And hasn't been "dropped off round the corner to get something?"
  13. Is it possible to tell how long a car has been advertised on AT?
  14. At the moment the 'local van with a man' is doing gardening and driveways! Lol
  15. It's no secret that some companies use professional services to manage their online reputation. But it does sound like a rats nest in that line of work?
  16. My experience of Shiply has been varied and worthy of a thread on its own. FWIW I would deliver it myself 40miles. Nobody will be as careful with it as you!
  17. There used to be a large traveller site opposite BCA Bedford site. Not sure if it's still there?
  18. I'm looking forward to the new opportunity for amusing 'BS' advisories
  19. No, i bailed out of it in the end
  20. Have a chat with the girls in the office. I usually find Colchester pretty helpful to be honest. And stuff does sometimes turn up in the post after you've sold it,
  21. I agree with tradevet, the Midlands is the 'sweet spot'. Between Manheim and BCA there is a huge choice.
