But as I understand it, selling by Ebay auction or not still doesn't sidestep your responsibilites as 'trade'. We need to go 'definitive', where's lawjaw?
-
Is it really that easy to sidestep your responsibilities as a trade seller. I'm not sure if that would stand up under scrutiny from TS?
-
Yeah, back in the day I was selling an XR3i and a wanna be young trader turned up arguing that he knew what it was worth because he worked at a car auction. I told him to fuck off there and buy one! While he was looking at it, I had another punter turn up who 'really' wanted it, and they had a little bidding war. I went in and left them to it and 'young wanna be trader' ended up with it.

"not on my manner" "I don't believe I'm hearing this" "Where's my money!"

....... the one on Eastenders run by Max Branning. Because it runs itself
-
I know. The problem isn't so much 'traders' masquerading as 'private' but 'private' masquerading as 'trade'
-
Yes, again, "everyones Trade" Don't bother calling them, you need to talk face-to-face and show/prove you are 'genuine', not just a chancer out for a discount.

My last experience was when my 'smoker' Shogun needed a chip for MOT. My MOT guy is actually next door to a large screen company so I'm in there next day. Surprise to say they made a mess of it. I could have done a better job with superglue and a razor blade. Suffice to say we haggled on price and the MOT guy put his blindfold on

Poor old thing will end up 'ramped' on track days

Sorry to say that my experience of having chip repairs done has been pretty bad. Whenever the guy turns up and looks at it there's much teeth sucking and "I'll do what I can but....." stuff. The only time I've seen a really good repair done is on the adverts?
-
Ha, small world I was watching that today. Was anyone actually in the hall?
-
.... as above but, all depends on how long the chips been there and whether there's any dirt in it. Although, even if you choose to pay for a smart repair guy to do it, you may hear the same excuse?

....... everyone's a trader? -
Yes, regardless of how drunk or stupid you are, don't stab a battery with a knife?
-
On the website. As far as I can see 'noisy engine' or 'smoking' is a fail for me. I can't see why the vendor would even consider using the surecheck in that instance?
-
I wasn't looking to use it 'hardcore' daily just keep it in my travel bag for emergencies.
-
Sorry to hear that. Consolation is that, I think you are the only person on this thread that actually understands the point I'm trying to make

I'd always dismissed these portable jump packs as Halford 'gimmicks', but they are serious bits of kit. Although it's clearly down to battery technology advancing massively in the last few years

Isn't this disgusting! Surely even the most hardnose racist must understand the significance of the 'Windrush' generation and significance of what they did for this country!

Buyers who bring friends 'who know cars'
metcars replied to Linctrader's topic in General Dealer Chat
There's a guy at BCA Enfield who always puts on a show for the private buyers. He jumps in and tries the clutch, grating the gears deliberately. He then jumps out shaking his head and walking away then quickly runs round and bids -
Sorry to dig up this old thread but I'm thinking one of these little lithium jump packs might fit nicely in my bag of stuff to take when collecting a car to drive home. Is it still going strong? Been watching a video of a guy in Alaska jump starting half a dozen cars from dead with one of these. Considering the size and convenience of carrying it's difficult not to be impressed?

It's interesting to watch private buyers checking a car at auction; focusing on the stereo and getting comfortable behind the seat! -
There's a bloke just round the corner to me who uses his girlfriends address and details to sell cars. I think he's sold more than I have this year. When I'm in the mood for mischief I will send him a message asking whether his name is in the log book or how long he's owned a certain car. He never replies but I bet he sleeps with one eye open! Interestingly my Polish guy is back in business too. He's got around 5 high end German bits, all rebuilt from salvage. He's got two old Passat estates. But he doesn't advertise anywhere I can find so I'm guessing he's tapped into his 'community'.

But, if someone in your family was desperate to buy a car would you refuse to give it a once over? -
Thanks, yeah a pain. I was sort of hoping, bearing in mind there are effectively two seperate cats, that the bank would/could be relevant. But obviously shot down in flames
