Sold a CAT D - customer wants to return it 2 .5 yrs later
AW Motorgroup replied to RHA's topic in General Dealer Chat
If sold on auto trader in 2017 it would list it as cat d or c on the advert, there systems changed for this to happen in 2014ish. Unless you sold it on gumtree or eBay. Not writing cat d on the invoice is a silly schoolboy error, I’m still not convinced why you didn’t write it but then again you didn’t even introduce yourself lol considering the mateys head gasket has gone that’s why all this has come back to you. If your filing cabinet is in order get the invoice out...if it isn’t there make sure it gets there wink wink and also offering an exchange is silly, it’s been 2.5 years. Rejecting the car on the basis it’s a cat d and he didn’t know is only going to be proved by the evidence at the time of sale which is advert descriptions/costs, sales invoice receipt plus any warranty docs you may have gave. A long shot and defo not going to be an easy one as the amount of miles done now and depreciation valuation. So I would stand firm on it. “Cat d repaired to a high standard” lol best of luck buddy- 73 replies

Hi Jordon, in my opinion this fella is just trying his luck to get more money off the car. Most likely there are no issues with it. You are in your full right to request the car to be returned to your premises to inspect and any work which he carried out was not approved for payment by you. He aint even a qualified mechanic or vat registered garage. I had a chap last year bought an old 53plate merc ml320 px I had in, he was buying it to export to Nigeria ... came down test drive done pdi done all agreed and paid ... and then he tried a similar thing a few hours later and threatened all the usual crap but in the end he just wanted money off, its a known scam by some... always have a pdi form done and stand your ground on this one. If you want a refund come back with car, as for these non approved repairs and the stone chip tell him it’s not on your pdi and your returns policy does not pay out for repairs without inspection and reports must be from a vat registered garage. I stood my ground and he disappeared. You have been more than reasonable with this customer he is just trying the usual scare tactics in hope for some cash back. Best of luck buddy. Cheers, A.

Since you have offered your own warranty best to get this one fixed back at yours. On the advice of not driving it further causing more damage is going to be a difficult one in court. You could inspect and ask the customer for a contribution to it but again it’s really on the fence as the problem has happened very quickly pre 30 days. Im sure your pdi ramp check is there but no matter how much of a rush a customer is in they will be pain if something goes wrong for sure. Customers are customers. Personally don’t let the car leave until it has a full service, pads etc. The oil leaking could have happened after he ragged it or the box was on its way out anyway so it’s hard to say. Take a pill on this one buddy. Chin up and Best of luck.

Valeting machines/upholstery cleaners
AW Motorgroup replied to Casper's topic in General Dealer Chat
Hi Casper got the karcher and also a numatic use the autosmart brisk low foam and its never let me down over the years... apart from the time my cleaner didn’t understand the 1:20 ratio ... was an interesting day -
Hello mate, I have someone who works part time for me and does all the cleaning and valeting. I have had to train him up over last few years but he is defo up to standard now and reliable for me. I have 20-25 cars at my site and it is much better than giving it out to the local kurds/romainian car washes as you will be spending a lot of money on poor quality valeting and more swirl marks than a twister ice cream lol. As for you and your dad if you guys can manage it then good on you! Saving costs initially however after a while though you will start to focus more on the business itself which is that you are a car dealer not a car wash detailer so outsourcing or having your own staff on it would be much more effective. My time is better spent on sourcing more stock, dealing with customers etc Prior to that I had a mobile guy that came to my pitch and charged £10 mini valet or £50 full vallet full interior washed, machine polished and engine was shined up using the trade special can of xxxxxx . It all depends on the stock £500 micra vs £5k Audi A3 and how clean or filthy they are 5 dogs and a chain smoker or a 1 lady owner bible in the glove box only used for sunday church. Once the cars have been done you have to remember they don’t sell straight away and with the weather it’s very unpredictable so overtime you will need to wash them again and again or shine them up before potential viewings etc so that we’re it gets expensive at car washes and will be the test of your time doing it by hand. Retail is detail especially on cars, if it’s perfectly shining when the customer arrives the sale is more likely on = show me the money baby (unless it’s the last price crap then I walk back into my office lol). Anyways I hope this helps. Cheers, A.

I did check all of my ads seems like AT will be going through some teething issues changing sponsored to relevant .... most punters are clever enough to search low to high so I’m not convinced on the change over. The AT rep told me they are tailoring the site to suit the customers buying requirements (gearbox/colour/breast size etc) ... I replied so what about the £££ each month I’m paying you what about my needs and requirements.... stone cold silence I could hear a pin drop ... but as always AT has always made me the sales so i don’t have much of a choice, but I’m defo going to try and feed it back at my end of month call lol

Hi TG, I have been using a Sealey polisher with white foam pad and either G3 cutting compound or 3m fastcut. I’ve attached a picture of the kit I’m using as I’m at my site right now (just waiting for a customer to collect his lovely little corsa he left a deposit on yday lol). I’m also a member of detailing world which is really helpful over the years and I painted a few cars in my time. So basically if the car has bad scratches I will wet sand with 2000 grit and then polish with a white pad and spray of water with 5 drops of g3 on the pad at setting 1-2 on he buffer. All Bodyshop’s do this process after they painted a car to get any imperfections/orange peel out of the clear coat. A few passes and wipe clean with a microfibre then same process until it’s like a glass reflection. I finish it will the gloss enchancer\wax. If the paint ain’t to bad then I will use the 3m fast cut. Since your bodyshop has most likely compounded the car already hence the holigrams/swirls left in from using the buffer on high setting, I would recommend 3m fast cut and setting 1-1.5 on the buffer with a few sprays of water on the panel. No wetsanding. I’m confident the holigrams will be gone for sure. Black cars are a nightmare on swirls and holigrams but look amazing once done. Anyways I hope this help Cheers, Amer.

Hello everyone, Newbie on here - I just wanted to introduce myself, as ive been reading the forum for a while and have signed up now. A bit about me, my name is Amer and I have been trading for 9 years, have a small pitch in berkshire for 20-25 cars. I started back in 2007 and traded from home for a few years full time, things picked up well at the time so I decided to get the pitch in 2010 and increase the level cars. With that came lots of learning which im still learning on daily basis and some hardships which many of us have all faced. My main sources are bca blackbushe and on the odd occasion walsall, I also have a few from manhiem nhampton/bham aswell. My passion for cars started from a young age thanks to my father who worked in Ford factory back in the 80's, he was always buying a car on the side and repairing it/selling it so as a child I always remember being in the garage and messing about with the spanners. I guess for most of us it runs in our blood and thats what makes us passionate about the trade. Anyways I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone on the forum, great topics and at times you all have bought a smile to my face, especially on those quiet days, I find a sense of humour makes it all better (life is to short). If I can help anyone or chip in on topics to help at least you know abit about me now Cheers, Amer.

Accepting finance not FCA registered
AW Motorgroup replied to tradegirl's topic in General Dealer Chat
Hi - just be abit cautious on this one especially the part of the cash back? If the bank wants the link he should be able to give them that. Is the car advertised for 7999 and you have agreed 7500 with him? The banks lends personal Loans to the customer so then he would transfer it to you and as stated earlier it’s treated as cash sale to you so you don’t need any fca approvals etc I had 2 sales in June which where personal loans for 8800 and 6700 and the advertised amounts where 8995 and 6795 but there wasn’t any cash back talk. The customers got the loans approved from there banks and then when they received the money the came in and paid via debit cards. Banks where NatWest and Nationwode from memory of talks. There are a lot of weirdo scammers out there, but I hope this helps mate Cheers, Amer.
