Told a customer today that I only accept bank transfer, despite him suggesting he could pay for the car in full by card we agreed for him to pay deposit by bank transfer this evening and the rest when he picks up the car next week. its 2240hrs and no sign of a bank transfer, I should have taken debit card!

from a non educated workshop point of view you’d hope they’d be willing to help with the book fitting time for a tranny battery? 0.2hrs most cars so maybe it’s more on a PITA vehicle like a Transit

Bought a TT via proxy bid out of Blackbushe Monday, CAP was 5500 and paid 4200 plus the tip, thought I’d got a winter bargain til I picked it up, malfunctioning brake pedal was the real reason why

Explain you’re happy to resolve this new issue by having it back and fixing as per your legal requirements unde CRA2015 or You could offer the option of a refund minus 0.40p per mile, they’ve probs done 2-4,000 miles so that’ll reduce their refund by £800-£1600 - enough to give you some monies to fix it and put this nightmare customer behind you. Edit: the fault wasn’t present at point of sale so your offer of a refund probably isn’t your legal obligation anyway

We use shiply for all our jobs. although I’ve learnt shiply take a deposit and then keep it, so I’ve started dealing regularly with some of the local transport guys and simply calling them whenever I’ve got a job, I normally get a job for normal shiply price minus the deposit fee when going direct

Find out who the centre manager is and bring this to their attention, send images of what they have missed, you don’t get charged for an assured report for them to miss items, politely inform them you won’t be buying from them if they can’t refund the car or make payment to rectifying at a Bodyshop? how many are you buying a week? I didn’t use the auctions for at least 2 years when I started. get out and view some privates locally and scour Ebay and Gumtree, buying a lemon when you’re starting out can really hamper quick progress

And apply for trade plates, google them. get some invoice an pdi pads and cover yourself by doing pdi on every car before you sell them and get customer to review and sign their acceptance, keep a copy. Find some lawgistics ones online.

Sold a 115k Lexus LS460 2007 a while back, had no issues with it, loads to go wrong but on paper probably one of the most reliable cars to buy being jap/lexus. Buy it and stash some money away for when it goes wrong I suppose, should be easy to find one that's been pampered and serviced regularly by some old boy? -
+1 they are all like that - they feel like they are going to stall even at 4k rpm. I'd get them to bring it back, drive it yourself with them in the car, show them how to drive it and show them it drives fine with someone driving it properly, have it plugged in at the same time. do some online reading on common 'stalling' faults to prepare yourself for any likely diagnosis, lets face it, if there's actually an issue, it'll be a £30 part and easy fit. OR show them this thread, combined we've probably had experience of 30+ different Aygo/107/C1s.

Good thinking regarding asking if they are looking to buy today/have others to see. If they say they are looking at others what do you say/do? I said to a chap last week “we do have some current interest in the car and would like to manage expectations, are you in a position to purchase or in early stages of looking?” he said “In the early stages, but have the cash in the account and would be ready to go for the right car”. I should have known then that he was gonna be a waster. low and behold he couldn’t fault the car itself and since messaged saying. “Had a look at the car yesterday. It’s in lovely condition and drives really well. It’s a great colour and whilst it looks great, I’m not sure I could live with it day-to-day”.

Me and the billy have been messaging back n forth regarding this particular car and the answer from me is “yes it is fixed”. but I wanted your guys experience of how you answer this question. Is it a blanket “yes its fixed”. Or do you, like I did, take the opportunity to build value and reasoning into your price? By talking about spec, colour, history, condition? thanks in advance.

Could you not organise a clickmechanic-esque inspection, if applicable in Ireland? i’d definitely still offer the choice of a repair, just so on paper it shows you’ve been fair and offered it (even though you know they’ll reject) in addition to the option of a refund less mileage costs. hopefully your sales invoice includes a clause that states customer has to return vehicle for refund? If not, let this be a costly lesson and start using said-style of invoice pads.
