  1. We are very rural and trade from our home premises, they couldn’t collect as they were snowed in on their access road, hence wanting our 4x4 delivered. Otherwise we would ask for a deposit prior to delivery of which a portion is non refundable due to travel costs. We describe all faults imperfections and offer detailed 10min YouTube videos for transparency. Never been rejected until this weekend, didn’t bother with pre payment as she was 20 min away. I like the “buyers are liars” term and will continue to remind myself of this.
  2. Must’ve been drunk when initially reading the advert? Beggars belief. we had one yesterday, said they’d buy our 4x4 and needed it ASAP due to snow and work, so we said no problem, dropped it down to them, drove it, loved it, then proceeded to offer us £3400 because the insurance company have valued it at £2200 and won’t change their valuation.... We’ve got it on at £4550. I was literally speechless, got back in it and drove home.
  3. had the same today, customer was very concerned that our 47k mile hatchback had had its cambelt and water pump replaced................it's 13 years old.

  5. exactly, some of our cars will be £500+ more expensive than some 'private ads' but I wonder if the private ads have new mots, cambelt change, service and two tyres, what would that cost joe bloggs to get sorted? MOT £50, cambelt, £300, service £120, tyres £120? hmmm then there is the warranty and CRA on their side.
  6. we had a similar story, 57 plate fiesta with 45k, paid £2450 inc tip, sold in 3 days for £3425. Bloke travelled 190 miles for it!
  7. we tried this for a few months until the suckers were no longer effective and we kept losing the plates halfway down the A337! Maybe we should get those black rubber hangers that go over the rear windscreen wiper arm? What's stopping an ANPR camera picking up the original plate versus the one hung over the rear wiper arm? With any exterior plate, you'll always run the risk of some scrote knicking them at the lights.
  8. What’s the standpoint on faults that were present at point of purchase, but you made the customer aware verbally and on the PDI and they signed to accept it and now they want to reject because of these faults?

  10. how long is a piece of string Jacob, depends on who is logged on online who is in the hall, is there bad weather in the area? i.e have many traders bothered going to the auction house, are many small car traders in attendance, i.e auction might be packed out, but they might be waiting for the clapped out E55 AMG in 53 lots time. If Cap clean is a grand i'd expect it to sell for about a grand, prices have been silly recently, and even with damage, it's an ideal starter car that someone would have a customer for/might even find a private customer bidding it up
  11. no, but what the PDI does do is give you some form of defence when you politely remind the bell end customer that they dont have a leg to stand on, and when they take you to small claims court, not only does the PDI show that you've done your due diligence and had it inspected but you've also highlighted any imperfections to the customer at point of purchase, can help to prove that the vehicle was free of major mechanical fault when sold and if you got the customer to sign and accept the car as working and fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality at point of sale then even better.
  12. Yes, good to be conscientious like you are. It’ll set you in good stead, sounds like you’re doing it properly from day one. keep us informed, there’s many wise heads that can offer their experience, but ultimately it’s down to you.

Yeah agree, it doesn’t make sense, not sure how he’s got to 3k but that’s why i’d call his bluff and tell him that you’ll spend the 3k in fixing the faults for him, as I assume that’s him saying it’ll cost £3k to fix them? If he’s legit, and he wants the car, but just wants the faults rectified he’ll bite your hand off and think you’re a bloody top bloke for putting it right and offering him an awesome car at the listed price. Now obviously we all know he’s a total Timewaster but by offering to fix the issues, you’re showing yourself In a good light by offering to sell it with all the faults sorted. on the 0.5% chance he says yes, great, car sold. Alternatively what are your plans for it? You say you’ve had it a while, are you gonna hold out for another customer and hope they don’t mind the parking sensor, don’t spot the valance, and what about alarm message?
  14. Sounds like you’ve been thorough in your pre delivery checks and MOT’d it too. As someone has already said, making looming comments such as ‘then we’ll have to chat about it’ would piss me off wanting to just deal with it there and then, not be at the mercy of some report. Sounds like someone’s hit a pot hole or they just don’t want it anymore, I’d want it back to Inspect in our workshop/our mechanic, great that you’ve got pictures from point of sale. christ they’ve had it over two months, what do they want? You to hold their hand with it? Yes, find out what mileage they’ve covered in it. if they start getting arsey I’d offer to buy it back minus mileage, can’t be dealing with the hassle these days and would rather put it right and sell it to someone decent. That, or depending on the result of your own inspection make clear it was fine at point of purchase and hold your ground/make a contribution towards repair/parts.
  15. No problem sir, seeing as you’re polite, give me the £11k a week or so and I’ll get those things sorted for you. Locate the duff and fit a new parking sensor, new lower valance and alarm service? I wouldn’t know about the latter. Sounds fair
  16. Yeah going up about 3 or 5%, can’t remember exactly, and getting free stock ads that get listed on our “dealer profile” but not searchable through normal means ... if that makes sense
  17. like Arfur and yourself, we are internet based, viewings by appointment only, got a couple sites for storage, do youtube videos of all our cars and lots of quality clear images, reviews important also. the last week has been quiet for us. total of 3 enquiries all week on 15 cars (2 AT and 1 Gumtree), week before was 13 enquiries.
  18. agree, can't see her winning for a few reasons; - a clutch is a wear and tear item, regardless of whether you PDi'd it or not. - the issue would have been noticeable at point of purchase if fault was present, slipping for instance, smell, obvious to purchaser. - she's continued to drive it. - refused your very fair offer of supplying the part AND even offered to have it back and fit it. - The law always refers to what's reasonable and she is not. let us know how you do. absolutely. sometimes I think you have to take a step back, put yourself in their shoes, ask friends, family for their opinion, then ultimately draw your own conclusion. think, how would my current and future customers react to their complaint and your goodwill gesture/solution. would you feel comfortable with them putting their complaint on your facebook page (if you have a company one) and replying with facts such as what you've done to rectify the issue, if so. let her take you to court! as arfur mentions, the CRA is there for us too. we can't let these chancers cripple our overheads when we have strong cases!

  20. when it gets as petty as that I just tell them to give me the car back minus an amount for valet, fair use based on time and mileage they've had it, can't be arsed with the hassle
  21. I'm in the same position as you,I'm maxed out space-wise with 15 from home although valet myself (busy fool) and considering a similar move. How come the massive VED charges, did the DVLA reject your application for trade plates?
  22. with very similar registration plates like that I guess they could be from Hire car companies such as Hertz or Avis? wouldn't surprise me if they sourced direct from motability. I'll stop guessing and let someone with the facts come forward
  23. Hi Mojo, I have a representative popping in tomorrow to talk about getting setup with them, what commissions are commonplace? because as you say, I dont fancy being slung over a barrel! Especially if there's a lot of red tape to go through to then ultimately be on the same sort of commission levels I'm getting from my current finance company who make my life easy when it comes to finance (I'm simply an Approved Representative with them) PM me if preferred
