  1. Surely just good belt and braces practice to have all vehicles on the policy, in case you need a claim? Have also heard of some insurers who start to question trade policies if no vehicles have passed through, my ex father in law kept his trade policy when he retired, but used to have to whack a couple of my bits of stock on there every now and then to keep it "active".
  2. yup... there is a theme too..... Have to keep my hand in !
  3. Nice stock is over book, anything leggy seems to be struggling. Picked up a 2006 Cayman S, loaded, good history, upgraded alloys for £6900. Booked at £9.5 trade and retail £12k, didn't even hit provisional. Next one through, super low mileage SL500, 1995, reserve £9k, sailed way past to silly money
  4. I'm looking to set up a meeting, once I have something sorted I'll drop a post on here to collect questions.... ..... and of course ask how we get rid of deathtraps.... :-)
  5. Hi All, sorry for the late reply to this thread, but I put this question to the Chief Exec of Trading Standards for his views. As result the head of policy has sent me the following .. There were some changes to sale of goods law in recent year such that the protections for business to consumer sales (B2C) contracts were stripped out of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and are now enshrined in the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (CRA). These consumer rights were clarified and extended under the CRA. However that means the provisions on business to business B2B contracts remain within the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and business sellers are under an obligation to ensure that the goods they sell to other businesses are as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality, taking into account the description of the goods, the price, and all other relevant information. The business buyer’s remedy where that is not the case is to sue for breach of contract of one of these implied terms or another contractual term (or misrepresentation) That said, the law deems B2B to be on a more even negotiating field, and the business seller can expressly exclude these terms from the contract, but this would have to be in the original agreement. (this cannot happen in B2C contracts – hence why ‘sold as seen’ was banned). So, business sellers are still under obligations to their business buyers for the above, unless they specifically exclude the provisions of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 by agreement. In summary, we would say that it would be good practice/due diligence to ensure that B2B contracts only take place where such contracts are normally formed, i.e. trade forums/auctions/sites. In that way there is no risk that an innocent consumer purchaser will buy a deathtrap. To be clear, the law doesn’t simply allow B2B to rip each other off and if there is a breach of contract, i.e. something is misdescribed or completely faulty, then the business buyer can still sue, based on the agreed terms of the contract. We are working with National Trading Standards to update Guidance for the second hand car market on such issues. I am going to keep in touch with them and maybe get more clarity on how we ensure that we are covered via a public forum if the buyer purports to be trade, but I thought I would share this I will also try to get them to one of our upcoming events. We're hoping to announce some breakfast clubs in tehnear future which will take place around the country... Andy
  6. Well, its got to be better than that Grand tour drivel..... :-) Cliche huh! But a 911 Turbo was the car I always had on my wall. At least I got to own one for a while. Back down to earth with bump. Picked up a 2.5 986 Boxster. I'd go as far as to say its the worst looking one in the country, previous owner repainted it, I think with a roller... but at £2k, I can't complain......
  7. Seems to be model specific. Trying to sell my own Porsche 996 turbo. Its a good one too. We're always rock solid investments, but prices seem to have softened a little and not seen much interest and at £30k its a good £3k behind book !
  8. If anyone is waiting for approval, please send the details directly to me, I don't know why anyone is waiting for this, they should not be. Paddy - this is the first post I've seen from you to approve. We approve all posts for new members who we are unable to verify the dealership they work for ( personal email supplied etc). This is to try and stop our forums becoming full of spam ( longer term members will recall many a post from our Chinese friends a short while back) We endeavour to approve these as soon as we can, but sometime we're a bit busy writing news stories and making the mag ( or in the case of today spending 10 hours driving up the M6) After few posts you will have the need for approval removed Andy
  9. yup... mostly sideways, mostly unintentionally, mostly uncomfortably.... hence why its for sale
  10. common across the whole range I think...
  11. Chat to Unicom or Aston Scott. They are likely to be able to help
  12. Everyone loves a tryer..... I have my own VX220 up for sale at present ( PH, Ebay at the moment). They are a fairly rare car, with a small, but dedicated following... on for £10,495. First enquiry.. "would you be prepared to sell it to trade, if so I'll give you £7100 for it" goes on to espouse the virtues of selling it to trade... My reply. " I would, but not for that value".... It trades at a shade under £9k and retail is £11k - £12k.. Bless him, can't knock him for trying.... Is this the opposite of customers phoning up and offering £2500 for a £7k car ?
  13. Welcome to the forum. We will be hosting a session at CDX in May on GDPR and explaining what dealers need to do to ensure they comply, well worth you registering for tickets and coming along as its free and you'll be able to chat to Lawgistics directly too. In simple terms, there is still some debate on the MOT piece, if its considered a safety related communication it may be ok to send, but if its considered as marketing your services then you will need to get the customers agreement. Its likely to be viewed as the latter and to be safe you should consider contacting your customers now who have not opted in and ask them for permission to continue to contact them.
  14. All manufacturers are moving away from leasing batteries, it was meant to be so that punters had the reassurance that they would be replaced if they failed. Reality its, they are proving to be more reliable than the old dinosaur burners. Most manufacturers now are happy to sell out the lease on the batteries to the owner. I don't think its unreasonably priced given what chargemaster were telling me a couple of weeks back, and generally the leased battery cars are fetching less in the lanes, its only when buying from a punter you need to be careful In time this will go away though !
  15. Finance companies aren't stupid. I used to deal with these scenarios on a daily basis back in my previous life. They will work out straight away that you are a dealer and then you have no chance. My advice is firstly, do right by your buyer. Its not his/her fault and they shouldn't be made to suffer. Either offer to buy the car back or negotiate with the finco. They don't really want it back, they would rather have cash, so try and negotiate ( you're a car dealer, you should be good at that !) get the best deal you can and take it on the chin. Lesson learnt, Hpi et all are there for a reason. Always check the car to protect yourself. if you check and the finance isn't registered, but subsequently comes to light, then the data provider will cover you. You might grumble at paying a few quid per car to check em, but if you lose £10k because of 1 deal, thats a lot of HPI checks !!
  16. Always keep an eye on whats going on online and been looking out for a C-max for member of the family, unsurprisingly all going way over book, well, the decent stuff is. but while logged in, noticed a 2008 Clubman Cooper, 1 owner, 60k, pepper pack, just serviced and years ticket. Stalled at £2450 against book of £3500. Put in a cheeky £2500 against a "not sold"... wasn't expecting anything of it...... next thing I know I've bought it.... So now the worry, yup, its a grade 4 and looks grubby, but straight, no lights.. so why the hell did this go so cheap when everything else is going above book, they are fairly good news normally... I must stop impulse buying. Just got to wait till it turns up smoking and limping into the car park, knocking like a tractor....
  17. If you're doing this to add value and confidence for your customers, then maybe you need to think about a recognised brand, rather than Bob from the local garage. Not saying that Bob wouldn't do a grand job, but in the eyes of your customers, would it hold any value? Otherwise you may as well do this yourself, at least it shows you have checked it over.....
  18. had a proxy bid on a vehicle that just disappeared....
  19. used to live in Sandhurst and have walked it, but wouldn't recommend it unless you have a lot of spare time...
  20. Fleet and winch field are the next closest, but on a main line from London, about a tenner in a cab.... Used to be there every day....
  21. I don't know why you have not heard back, this should normally be sorted within 24 hours. If you send over a copy of your trade policy and user ID details to admin@blackballmedia.co.uk I will ask the team to sort this for you
  22. Bought mine through an import agent, there are plenty out there, was more for fun/ interest than any outright profit. It must be older than 10 years or you will have a real pain trying to register it, unless the model in question was officially sold here. Factor in that they will all need a good service, likely some bodywork and you'll need to fork out a few quid on getting it converted ( speedo, radio, fog light etc), also factor in that it could turn up with no service or book pack ( likely). Its a small market now, so unless its something special do you really want to tie up a few thousand quid in a piece of metal that will be sitting on a boat for two months?
