  1. Jack What location are you looking for and when you say a car exhibition what do you mean, is this a car show you are trying to set up?
  2. yeah, a certain member of our editorial team used the same excuse when he, sorry it, kerned a wheel on one of our long tremors... You just need to find the person who programmed the software and claim off them....
  3. I didn't realise Mr Baggott was in new york....
  4. I met a certain ex race driver who has a dealership on Jersey... he confirmed that its a bit of a mare importing exporting when it comes to tax.... best to assume tax is due
  5. Hmm, its very quiet... our readers aren;t normally know for their shy retiring approach....
  6. This is the biggest real life change for us i think ... Big Mike is up in arms, he has no idea what he's going to use as a smoker anymore....
  7. Yup. Set of lights, revs up, drop the clutch, watch bits of the gearbox exit sideways....
  8. for those that are not Apple geeks like Mr B - the new i-watch is being launched
  9. Thanks Jim, thats a pretty comprehensive post, must have been a long conversation ! One question i haven;t seen answered anywhere ( or indeed asked) is. If you can tax a car online using the V5c, what is to stop someone for taxing the car, but not registering a new keeper. I assume there will be some sort of requirement to register the keeper at the same time?
  10. With my long time good friend and trusty mechanic of the last 12 years due to retire at the end of the year i'm going to have to find a new grease monkey ( and best friend LOL) to help not just with my fleet, but with the trading up fleet. Given the number of cars that pass through with EML's on i'm thinking an investment in a scanner might be a wise move now that i won't have a friendly mech to scan and check. I've used a few in my time and am interested in what units you guys use, if indeed you do use them, or do you rely on your local mechanic?
  11. This may help https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk/vat-duty-and-tax-vehicles-from-outside-the-eu
  12. Gavin There may be more knowledgeable people out there who have done this, but my understanding is that if it was first registered in Guernsey then you will have to pay VAT on it. However, its not unheard of for cars to have been originally bought from the UK, in which case VAT will have been paid and as its been in Guernsey less than 3 years no VAT should have to be paid. I'd ask him if he knows where the car was originally sold and has any proof of this. Of course, once it's here you'll also have to register it with DVLA and get it MOT'd etc..
  13. Although online buying is a great step forward to widen the net, it relies on the seller being honest particularly if you are relying on an agent to collect the car. I've had some great buys ( better than expected) and some rip off's, where the seller hides behind the "i don't mechanically check the car". A broken clutch is fairly obvious i'd say ! Sill can't beat 'kicking the tyres'
  14. If it was an MG turbo i might be interested... i had one of those when all my mates had XR3's ... it flew.....
  15. this does not bode well...
  16. Hi Chris I think you'll find the next issues trading up feature an interesting read, i talk about our experience of stock acquisition and the frustrations with buying online unseen Andy
  17. Jamie - want to buy a lovely rover with interesting provenance. £3k its yours
  18. electric parking brakes.... why oh why..... they go wrong with alarming regularity and cost £400 a corner to sort ! Whats wrong with using your arm and a lever.....
  19. I always wanted one ( sadly i was no longer at school ) So i finally gout to drive one... and its as good as i hoped ! There are only a handful out there for sale, so with a bit of work on this i'm hoping someone will pay decent money !
  20. Is it just me or all of a sudden, has the world has gone mad on "Barn finds", people seem to be paying more for barn finds than cars running and driving... Seriously, those cars must have been holed up in the "barn" for a reason in the first place, probably some terminal or expensive problem... Sure, there probably a handful of cars that we're stored on purpose, but........ Rant over...
  21. Already let AT know and the site has already been brought down, don't know if they are connected. It appears the parent group is "The Car Buyers Group"
  22. Thanks Gavin. Managed to contact Audi who have already put a tech guru in touch, so hopefully he'll help. - i'll keep these guys details to hand though ! Andy
  23. Well, i bought it for a song and given its good mileage and very original condition, once its spruced up its probably at the top end at the moment, which is probable;y between £1250 and £1500. Agree with you, a definite future classic.... and i have to say, had a hoot driving it in this morning, almost made me feel 21 again.... but its not a time machine sadly
