The best warranty claim I had was on a really nice (remember this is 15 years ago) Escort Si in white, low miles cracking car - in fact it was my first sale off my new pitch. Guy came back after 3 weeks and said, this cars crap, look at the tyres (obviously not a waranty issue but anyhow...). I went to look at the car running on three flats, each with a knife wound in the side walls. I said these have been slashed, he said really? - look at the one in the spare wheel well, he lifted the wheel to reveal a gun and said, I want my money back. Rather than the hassle and a similar event to trade vet, I agreed but he had to pay for the months tax - he agreed. My ex paratrooper bodyshop employee, gave me a lift to collect the car to ensure I had some back up.

Thanks for this HKQAC The following Chapter 8.4 seems to contradict this, or am I misreading it? For the avoidance of doubt: From actual invoice detail BCA - for margin scheme, what do you consider to be the purchase price: Hammer Price = £5,200 Zero rated Buyers Fee = £274 Zero rated Live On Line = £44 + £8.80 VAT BCA Assured = £33 Zero rated Total Invoice = £5,559.80 Back in 2003 onwards, I used to calculate Selling Price £6,995 less Hammer Price £5,200 (x1/6) = £299.17 VAT Margin. Using the information below, what do you consider to be the purchase price (for margin scheme)? I'm an inch of registering for VAT, so need to get my ducks in a row and cut through the hundreds of pages of information with your help. 8.3 What is the purchase price of eligible vehicles I buy at auction? Your purchase price will be the hammer price of the vehicle plus charges for services. The invoice you get from the auctioneer will itemise, for each lot you have bought, the hammer price of the goods and any charges for services (for example, buyer’s premium). These charges must not show VAT separately. This will be your purchase price for the purposes of the Margin Scheme or Global Accounting, and is the amount that you must show in your stock book. It should be clearly identified on the invoice you get from the auctioneer. If the auctioneer bills you for any other services, and charges VAT on them separately, you can reclaim the VAT under the normal rules. You must not add those charges to your own Margin Scheme purchase price. To avoid confusion, you may want to ask the auctioneer to provide you with a separate invoice for such charges. If you are in any doubt about what your Margin Scheme purchase price should be for a vehicle you have bought at auction, you should check with the auctioneer. 8.4 What is an indemnity fee? When you buy a vehicle at auction, you will usually be charged an indemnity fee. This is a charge which ensures that you will have compensation or indemnity if the vehicle you have bought is later found to have been stolen or to have finance outstanding on it. You must not include the indemnity fee in your purchase price for Margin Scheme purposes.

I am glad to see that you have this so well covered, so irritating when you can blatantly tell when someone is trying it on, because in court, we are almost guilty before the hearing.

I've just signed up for 3 months on Shpock - 2 days in. It was so cheap, I thought what's the real risk? After 2 days, I have had more interest from this site than AT or Ebay (no sales but enquiries). You have to filter some weird dross out as to be expected and I think it is the "live" messenger thing that makes a difference in terms of ease of contact. I remain sceptical as I agree that it is like a poor relation to Gumtree but it is generating leads at about £9 per month per car (fixed for 3 month package/10 car deal). This is what I am doing, rightly or wrongly - high(er) value (it's all relative) on AT PAYG - Everything on Ebay - classified 28 days listings Everthing on Shpock And within each, try and redirect as many to my website

I'm trying to advise him to re-register the car in UK when he moves back. Yes, they are expensive to own but nonetheless, they are very desirable and once UK registered, with that mileage and full HSE spec, will sell like hot cakes if priced realistically. He is falling in that trap of, I've just spent £5k, if I sell it for £10k, I will only have realised £5k for what is a £10-12k truck. I went out in it yesterday and a working Disco, is a sublime drive IMO. I personally am trying to stay out of the deal for obvious reasons. I bought it as a gift to him for being a fantastic Dad but I'm not interested in moving it on.

I think my dear poor old 78 year gent was taken for one. He lives in rural France and had to travel to LR Vannes because the village mechanic was out of his depth.

Bet you can change a head gasket blind folded and arms tied behind your back

Guys, Back in 2013, I bought my Dad a 58 plate Land Rover Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE for about £27,000. He lives in France and re-registered the car on French plates (car is RHD UK car). At 78, the car is too much for them now and they want to move it on as they are moving back to UK this summer. Rather than go through all the hassle of re-registering the car in UK, do any of you know anyone who takes, or is interested in this car as it is (on french plates). It's a 58 plate, he has all docs French and UK log books, original sales invoice from when I bought it and it has 74k on the clock and loads of history. Just had turbo replaced at cost of almost 5,000 Euros at Land Rover. He's just looking to get out of it - any advice welcome as to where I can move it on (i.e. anyone who has connections in France or dealing with French regsitered vehicles/specialists) - it's too lumpy for me or does anyone want a PX deal on a smaller more economical SUV or Cross-over type vehicle? Thanks, Mark

I wondered the exact same thing -
When I first opened my pitch in 2003 - I noticed a Reliant 3 wheeler going through my local auction and tried to buy it as an attention grabbing POS - I didn't but mainly because I couldn't afford it - can't remember how much it made but it was a lot.

I don'y think it'll work margin out for you. I think it's good for other trades but think a specific motor trade one is required - unless someone knows something I don't

I avoid BCA UKCGR Trade and Multi-Vendor lots but UKCGR Select and Premium seem to be ok for me. Other than that, I find BCA and Manheim to be the same set up, main dealer, smaller franchisees and larger independent lots - nothing between the two for me although I prefer BCA simply for their locations local to me (Midlands)

Locking wheel nut would be in the car, spare key, V5 and service book should be handed to you sperately - I wonder whether they forgot to collect them from the office? I would ring admin and make sure you keep a copy of the catalogue listing before it is deleted off the system now the transaction/auction is completed.

I'm a Warrantwiser too, just wish it was Clarkson who fronted it - many of the younger generation don't remember Quentin. They offered me a life sized cardboard cut out of him, I didn't accept.

Lol

I was more implying that they are not as a result of an accident, minor as in not accident damaged only many poor parking dinks and scuffs

If you're a very high volume seller, eBay requires you register as a business account. You'll receive an alert from eBay if we think you should upgrade your account to a business account. + I'm not VAT registered yet and you cannot open a business account without and there is no requirement to do so until I hit the threshold
-
I changed the ad Simon to accommodate the video including warranty, MOT etc - no longer a trade sale There's no legal requirement to use EMP providing my advert clearly states that I'm a business + I pay £15pmpc = much cheaper than EMP and no commitment from what I havew read herein, so not sure why I would want to sign up, not yet at least.

Just because I can and one way or another, it's going to get paint, stick or mop, or combo of all three - I took my selection of sharpies outside (black was the nearest colour) and just out of curiosity, touched one of the doors in (before I bother mixing paint from my scheme) and what a difference (wish I took pics for you) in just black felt pen, completely takes your eye off the hidious dinks. I will mix some paint and touch in the worst with a fine brush, mop the rear quarter and re-assess. What I can tell you, I am never talking to Steve again..........and the last time I even consider buying one of his old cars. I just called to say I love him and to be fair, I was Superstitious when he said his car was for sale and he has been told its mint.

To be fair, they held their hands up straight away, I did have to chase the cheque a couple of times. In life, I treat as I like to be treated myself. I had pushed for the cheque, so when it arrived, I emailed to thank them. I don't want to be known as the guy who "just" complains - I like to balance my responses where they are deserved.

Nah, you must be seeing things. I only wear my pointies with my pin stripes
