Just had a random thought and was hoping for some feedback from you guys. I can't recall any smaller car dealerships offering a cashback promo or a free service or MOT voucher (or anything like that) Has anybody tried something similar to shift some dead stock? Or even just to get some sales numbers up during dry spells? My thinking behind it is a punter could walk away with 2 things (ie cashback, voucher etc and a car) rather than just a car with money knocked off? Would that be more enticing for them?

I know I know, 4 weeks its becomes a problem for me, just a bit bummed the phone hasn't been ringing! (Putting it down to hot weather and football) I'm the kinda person who always chooses 24hr postage when ordering online, bloody hate the waiting game!

Completely agree with you, I know most of the time it just means a trim package or some bigger alloys, but you'd think people would prefer that?? I've got a Blue Type S GT that's been sat for a few weeks now, such a shame as its a cracking car! Had a high mileage 2010 CRV SE a few months back that sold in 3 days, absolutely bizarre!

I've tried my hardest to stick to my plan of buying "desirable" cars (ie m sports, s lines, type r's ets) and its really tough to get the right buyers, feel like they're sticking round longer just because they're not run of the mill stuff. Saying that, when people do eventually turn up to buy them, they're always impressed with the other stock I have which puts a huge smile on my face! Stick to your guns on buying the modern classics and maybe have a few quick sellers just to keep it floating!

Wow, spots around the water tank? Tell him to bring a magnifying glass and stethoscope!

Think we have a lot of traders around here that use it as a front for other ventures.....

You're either going to pay way over the odds for that or they wont let motor trade anywhere near it! Been trying to find premises for the past few months and every time i book an appointment to go view its, "What business are you in?" Followed by a sharp "the landlord doesnt accept motortrade" and down goes the phone!

To give the car credit, stacks of history, cambelt and pump just done, MOT till june next year and nearly new tyres all round. Drove it for about 2 weeks to check it was all fine, guess its just sods law it all went nuts! Must be the heat!

Sold the first one of the month yesterday, absolute horror though! Battery completely flat and wouldnt jump, they turned up as it was hooked up to my work truck. Had to send them off with a tenner for a coffee for half an hour whilst trying to desperatly find a battery when all the motor factors shops are closed past 12 on a saturday. Found one and just managed to get it swapped after they got back. No time to clean it or even put a bit of diesel in the bugger! Then out on the test drive the offside rear window dropped! Couldnt write this crap if I tried! They still took it happily after a bit knocked off the price thank god!

Ive got a fabia vrs thats been sat for 3 weeks now, one more week and i'm dropping the price to shift it.

Done exactly this, this morning. Worked out a bargain price over Gumtree (clearly stating that if he missed anything I would knock him down on price again), turned up, car exactly as described (if not better) and handed over the cash, then filled out the yellow bit on the v5 and went on my merry way. I have had other people telling me to get lost after saying I'm a dealer (not as a smart arse comment, more to assure the seller that I can be there in an hour with cash ready to take away.) I have no idea why people refuse to sell to a trader, maybe because they know you'll sell it for a better price than they ever could, and that makes them envious? I think if they're going to be like that, they're just hung up on money. Its best just to move on and find the next car, no point wasting your energy in trying to convince them!

Do you accept bitcoin or monopoly money?

Awesome thanks chaps! Thought that might be the case, just wanted to be sure

Afternoon all, quick question.... Took a car in part ex (fabia vrs, rapid diesel!!!) And did all the v5 stuff on the DVLA website (bought car, in the motor trade etc) Am I waiting for a new v5 in the post or am I just using the old one to register the new keeper when it sells?

Love the styling of those 159's, but good god, the gearboxes that came with the 1.9 jtdm engines, are made out of cheap Lidl chocolate. Think they're the dreaded M32 Gear box that are in alot of Vauxhall's too.

I've been using the administered package from lawgistics and no complaints yet, booklets look professional and I use their PDI and sales forms too.

Had a fantastic text off my sister today. She was having her tyres changed and they couldn't find her "lock and wulnut key" Nearly spat my tea out! Anybody had any better?

New trader - best warranty and physical card payment provider?
Mikey360 replied to MrV's topic in General Dealer Chat
Hi Ben, I use Lawgistics for my warranties, basically means It's all in my hands and if there are no claims in the 3 month period I get to keep what was put aside for the warranty in the first place. Give Ella a call and she'll be able to explain your options. Big companies like warranty wise and autoguard make their profits from not paying out and can tarnish your reputation. I'd rather have a good reputation and fork out now and again! I'm not using a card machine and hasn't given me many problems, just let them know over the phone that its BACS or Cash. Alot of new card machine companies like izettle do have a monthly limit on them of around £5K, plus a 1.6% fee of each transaction can be a big chunk out of your profits. I don't think you can offer finance if you're operating from home, I seem to remember reading you need dedicated premises? -
What repairs/servicing won't you tackle?
Mikey360 replied to Mikey360's topic in General Dealer Chat
It does include a water pump aswell, but I do agree, should be closer to £300 Great shout, just posted now, hopefully someone comes up cheaper!
