  1. Cheers for the heads up Not a very clever scammer though - none of us will want to deal with a VW punter selling the benefits of his Tiguan from the off!
  2. Agreed. I dislike 'no shows' with a passion. Winds me up a treat, and you never know how long to leave it after the appointed time to call! the ones that always surprise me are the ones like I had last week who called me on thursday to make an appointment for monday at 430. She'll never appear I thought. Got myself ready though, just in case. turns up dead on time, bought the car. And yet the ones who call an hour before to say, 'can I come now' disappear down a black hole. But this is about the good punters! Most of the do appear, and about when they say so!
  3. Sporty and 'look at me' stuff that is past its prime, but now it fits the budget that may attract someone who doesnt realise how much that sort of car can cost to run. Most German sports stuff, Vauxhall VXR, Minis!!! I love to have normal stuff for people who appreciate a car that has been generally looked after, can cope with a few cosmetic marks, so fiestas, focuses, astras, korean and Jap are favourites. Dont mind a BMW that has never been messed with, and like Alfa customers - they tend to know what they are getting into, and some even look disappointed if there isnt a creak from the suspension, think they want to be messing with it on a sunday!
  4. I'd class most of my paying customers as good punters. Had one back in on friday who had bought a car from me a couple of years ago and said the reason he came back to me was because when he had an issue with the last one after a couple of months I got it fixed for him with no hassle. Nice to hear from a customer that doing the right thing by them does (sometimes) count for something. I think people generally respect you being open and honest - we all have a scumbag every now and again that spoils your day, but if you avoid selling t**t magnets, you tend to avoid the t**ts.
  5. Using those self serve checkouts makes you realise just how skilled the staff are at getting items scanned- it takes me ages! and why do t**ts with full trolleys think its a good idea to use them? they're there for people who have picked up a sandwich and a bag of crisps, not a weekly shop!!!
  6. a gem! get it bought! Modern classic.......
  7. If you're putting scrap sort of money in to it (which if its cheap and 16 years old it should be) you have very little to lose, assuming its not a nail with lots of pending issues. because you can't sell tarmac (unless you're a pykie)
  8. I've always done OK with them, think the road tax is OK on the 1.6 as well
  9. And its bank holiday next weekend! Anyone got a spare noose?
  10. had 2 people turn up on the same car within 10 minutes of each other, amazing what a price reduction can do. Fortunately the first Billy went before the second one turned up, so no fighting. Second customer bought it after sitting in it for a minute. Waiting for someone else now who I've valued the part ex for over the phone based on their description - this could be interesting
  11. i'm with Barclays too, but to avoid commission charges pay it into your personal account and then transfer it over. It's what I do and the staff on the counter couldnt care less.
  12. dont use it day to day as I have a lengthy commute and wouldnt trust it for long, but I do have a 53 fiesta diesel I took in swap nearly 3 years ago that I use as my 'dump car' at the MOT station, or for going to the tip. Never washed it, it hasnt needed much each MOT and it has proved a useful parts bin for parcel shelf, mirrors etc. and only £30 road tax! Always smile when it starts and leaves a plume of smoke behind it.... I dont really like new cars anymore, but theres a bit of sentiment left for this one yet

    HELP

is the spider in the rover free too? could be a bonus when its flying ant day
  14. Just been talking to AT about this. If you're halfway good with computers (i'm not) I guess you could use their invoice style as a template. Otherwise its back to 'old school' pen and paper. I think AT are bricking it and this may just be a panic reaction, wait for the dust to settle. But in the meantime, we all need something.
  15. Arthur, commend your bravery, disappointing it hasnt worked out for you. At least youve been honest about it!
  16. Hi arthur, How are your sites getting on? After a poor April, got to take a look at how AT is performing
  17. She took a 13 year old car to Jeep??
  18. I loved cars, until I did this job. Now, my enthusiasm for them has left me to such an extent, I drive a diesel Insignia....
  19. I dont know the answer to this, and unless someone from one of those big companies is on here and gives us a categoric answer, none of us will. I can, however, be certain of one thing; it will be significantly less than any of us would pay!
  20. Too much water and you can see the 'rainbow effect' on the ground from the 'minor' oil leak!
  21. A bit of drizzle doesnt go amiss when they are picking a car up......
  22. Which means he's fed up with the stupid enquiries too. If anyone ever asks me for a deal which closely resembles a straight swap, I just ask myself, would I rather have my car or his? the answer is normally mine. That swapper, although rare and potentially profitable, looks like a twat magnet. You could spend a lot of time with 'brand ambassadors' before you sell it. And its isnt a young car either so potential for significant faults lurks.
  23. To be fair, I did get 9 months out of it, which considering the abuse it suffered was incredible. And there are a few sentimental Mums and dads with their offspring who happily tell their kids how good the cherry (and any other old Datsun) was. Sadly i missed the mark ups on those!
  24. Fussy f*****s. I put a poster of a 1980 Datsun Cherry on my 'office' (glorified shed) wall to show them that no matter what they think of the Ka, Corsa etc that they need to have as their first car at least it isnt one of those rusting pieces of s**t.
  25. 6 so far, which is the same as i manages in all of april. need to do 12 -14 a month so I guess I'm only 12 days behind.... But no one is changing for fun - of the 6 this month, 2 are new drivers, and of the other 4 2 have blown their previous cars up, 1 has flunked its MOT and the other one has p/exed a shagged focus in. one of the blown up ones is a 10reg Polo 1.2 - quality german engineering again, timing chain snapped! And theyve got to leave it on the driveway for another year because they've still got chucky on it....
