Dealer working from home vs Neighbour (problem)
trade vet replied to premi-motor's topic in General Dealer Chat
If you have a nice house in a good neighbourhood then selling from home is easier.I have done this at 2 different houses for several months at a time. The first time, our front door was bigger than no 10 and the punters were further impressed when I showed them the docs in the billiard room.So if Mark Carney proves correct about falling house prices ( I doubt he is),it might be better to buy or even rent an imposing house with its own parking than rent a unit . By the way,my guy is struggling with videos and we were looking at one of yours today for a Yeti, even better than before. -
Dealer working from home vs Neighbour (problem)
trade vet replied to premi-motor's topic in General Dealer Chat
ECJ,I can identify with that,I have had amusing run ins with neighbours but the best one was an industrial unit on a trading estate.Hope I haven’t already mentioned this. There was a 100 car pitch already there and the guy objected to me because we did not have specific planning etc.I just said OK I will apply, however having checked for any objections under FOI,there were many from the other businesses on the estate including tyre and paint shops.I went to see them all and they new nothing about it,the objections were fraudulent. -

Hi ECJ I would like to hear more from you please, about anything by the way. -
Yes,travel from far and wide and cough up £200 to qualify for a viewing.......Another reason for giving AD an unsolicitored award for ‘unique business model’.

Dealer working from home vs Neighbour (problem)
trade vet replied to premi-motor's topic in General Dealer Chat
A lot of us have had similar things in the past with neighbours.First of all I would be asking for a copy of the residents association rules.I would also be trying to find out about this guy.He could be a fraud,a lot of these busy body do good types can be.Solicitors tend to know about each other in their area and most of them would not get involved in something like this. -
10 owners .....£699 up north

I used to like going to Blackbushe on Friday, the stock always appears a fortune but if you were ‘on the ball’ you could get a few. I used to like going in at 8.30 but then they put a Gurkha on the gate and there was no way you could get past him before 9.00.

When the phone starts, you know you are going to sell so you just make sure you pick the right deal.Good swapper or lump of chucky or both.If you have repeat customers you cannot make excuses and increase prices, you will never see them again. I do agree if you get something different, they are usually the ones.We once got a LWB Transit Tipper by default, the response was rediculous and the phone never stopped.Another one was an early petrol Merc GWagon ex Police but civilian spec and a thirsty big lump. The first punter to phone pleaded for us not to sell it to anyone else,we thought he was mad.He wasn’t and he explained to us how rare and desirable they were ( over 20 years ago).

No deal brexit! Houses down 35%,cars up or down??
trade vet replied to friar's topic in General Dealer Chat
If Brexit goes ahead I think stock may be down most at auction in the 3 or 4 weeks before. It depends on how Fleet managers and leasing companies react. The Trade will be nervous but whatever happens things usually stabilise within 3 months.Even when the oil price was suddenly quadrupled and finance companies refused to finance cars above 2ltrs,things returned to normal within 3 months.I think it is important to have extra funds availible around Brexit in order to take advantage of any market over reaction and most important, in case your bank ‘pulls the rug’ etc. -

I agree with BHM,these days a large proportion of working people ( often with good jobs) are heavily in debt and left with little disposable income. So their expectations maybe far greater than they used to be because of maintenance worries. It must be worse down London commuter land where people must be really skint as whole towns appear to close up by 8pm.- 62 replies

Am I reading this right, you have to pay a fee to be nominated for these awards ?
-
Granted, but if some dealer goes ‘tits up’ having received an award (which they have milked ) and then not paid off p/x finance settlements etc. Those punters would be very unhappy.......Anyway it was only one or two I am on about.
-
I agree the award is bullshit,it is about ‘punter credibility’ and I am sure you will make good use of it.When we supplied cars for a Bond movie ,we made sure the story was prominently displayed in our advertising. I just think the judges might take a little bit more care in future when vetting one or two of the nominations.

Worst case scenario etc. Carney knows what he is doing, his contract has just been extended, maybe he wants to be fired. He is a Goldman Sachs guy, some people might say that any Wall St guys ( he will know a lot)could make money shorting stock having prior knowledge of these statements. -
You are right, your award is genuine. What we had was a big banner up on the warehouse wall back in 04,claiming we had been awarded some fair dealer award. If I did that now I think I would get an image generated of the staff collecting the award from some tabloid celebrity impersonator at the Albert Hall.I would then have the trophy and the photo displayed in the office. All harmless bullshit.
-
I hope they do,however having looked at the nominations,it is evident that a few of them ( including the judges) have not considered their bottom line. One or two appear to me to be technically insolvent. However the guy running Yorkshire Vehicle Solutions must be some player,he definateley knows what he is doing considering they don’t appear to have been established that long.Congratulations to him ( and the guys on here) If you want an award,I still say, just do your own.I have done it,I had a big banner with a rosette on our big wall.It was there for years,no one ever queried it.
-
The vast majority of punters do not want to buy stuff with visible stone chips and scratches. They don’t want friends and neighbours pointing them out.I have often made the mistake of leaving the odd stone chip on a bonnet to save money and it hasn’t sold. You then find later by getting it painted,it sells.
-
So to self nominate for an award I am presuming you have to provide your trading accounts, details of trading partners, photos of premises, your ‘unique selling point’,evidence of good deeds etc...........or maybe not.

It’s all about the bottom line. How you get there is up to you, some people want big mark ups but historically the guys with pitches who work on sensible margins always appear to do better over time.It appears to me that a lot of people maybe doing business but they are infact treading water and deep in debt. -
Are you being serious !,sounds to me like it must have been a ‘Robert Magabe’ voting system. I look forward to seeing who has won what. Thank you Nick, glanced at the nominations,no Motor Point or even Car Giant who have the biggest pitch in the world and do 1000 per week, also no AD for video/business model etc, very interesting.

OK. However,if you do come into contact with these guys in the future, you must factor in that these people can be typical public sector jobsworths and hate the likes of us.It is better to tell them what they want to hear. I had one guy over a 20 year period who constantly picked fault with us for the smallest things.- 62 replies
