2 pointsThe catch and risk is the bit you highlighted in yellow. How many people allow self test drive? Will you let your punter self drive a pricey motor? And they disappear? Or they do come back and say its making a noise. You will walk up and say what noise... I can't hear it... Social distancing can and is ignored very easily... Your local environmental health / trading standards team can come and tell you to close... And issue a fine. My friend... Delivery rules are simple. Knock on the door. Leave the parcel... 'howdy your delivery is on the floor. Ciao' Cars is a different ball game. Hill billy 'ere mate it's making a squeaky noise' you walk up 'i can't hear it'. You will ignore or be complacent to social distancing. Also the virus is said to be live on surfaces for a long time. You will pass a key or touch the door handle or steering wheel and so will your punter. Whereas amazon box has probably not been touched for ages or handled with gloves. I am only saying my 2pence but who am I. It's everyones individual decisions and their lives. I am enjoying my time off... Go shopping at 745pm and the shops are dead. I am lucky to live in an area where people are respectable and cross the road if they see you to maintain good distance.

2 pointsIf I’m not mistaken didn’t the Prime Minister specifically name car showrooms as one of the businesses to be closed? If so I’d say it was clear cut. Personally I believe operating an online ordering & contactless handover must be ok but I think everyone should hold tight for a few weeks. Not to sound flippant but it’ll all come out in the wash, commerce will NOT stop long term. Many of those entitled to the £10/25K have had it so should be happy to keep the brakes on for a few more weeks. Surely that’s what those payments are for?

1 pointLing Your business is not remotely comparable to the that of the rest of us on here. You are basically acting as a go-between - an agent, you are not 'selling' cars. I suspect you seldom see the cars or the customers. I also suspect that most of your customers visit franchised dealers to inspect and test drive potential purchases. Once they have taken delivery of the car you are out of the equation and unless something very very untoward happens then they won't interact with you again until the lease comes to an end. The guys on here, like me, are buying used cars, preparing/repairing them, taking customers on test drives, explaining features, trying to stop them buying the 'wrong' car, negotiating on price and then dealing with all the aftersales issues - possibly servicing the car subsequently. We need to know what our market will buy, how to evaluate a car, estimate preparation costs., what to buy and what to avoid, how to structure a P/X-finance deal. How to calm an irate customer.... the list goes on and on. In my view (and I don't mean this in a nasty way) you are not a car dealer.

1 pointYes agree with that was just making an example that surely a brand new lease or purchased car has less for a customer to pick fault with than a used one

1 pointAlso I would think personally online delivery on a brand new car bought or leased would be slightly simpler than a 5 year old used one less likely For. Customer complaints etc

1 pointI wouldn’t want to treat this lightly. I’m a vulnerable person, I’ve had the NHS letter, If I catch it, i won’t bother buying a return ticket to the nightingale hospital? So I’m keen to support the ‘spirit’ of the lockdown instead of looking at it as a barrier to my business and trying to circumvent it. But, it’s pretty obvious that the exit strategy from all this is going to have to focus on businesses capable of minimising contact and dealing online. Ordering and delivering cars with little human contact (maybe a covid clean?) I feel that there is going to be a new ‘normal’ and the days of crowded car showrooms are going to be far far in the future. I’m sure a lot of guys thought we’ll sit tight for a few weeks and then be let out slowly, but that’s not going to happen. The virus has been shown to reinfect and to mutate. Vaccine is a year away? Adapt or die? opinions?

1 pointAmazon are still delivering crap (she’d tell you otherwise) to ‘Her Indoors.’ What’s essential about nail polish? Why are they allowed to deliver? One van delivering to multi households of course. Is that safer than one car on one truck?

1 point@LINGsCARS - this currently looks like you're sharing an advert, which goes against what we allow in the forum. If, as I suspect, you're trying to share your ideas on how you do marketing with others here, perhaps you could give the above some context? It would help explain the post to others. Thanks

1 pointOh, just to mention, I managed to get on the Gold Standard/Holy Grail of TV marketing shows: Have I Got News For You. I'll take a bow. This FREE marketing = web traffic. Web traffic = sales. Do you gettit, yet?

1 pointJamie Baguette asked me to re-write this web-bit, that was deleted as collateral damage the other day: === Here are some marketing ideas... (I have no idea about cars, but I'm OK at marketing, it's fun) Hmm, I don't spend a penny on marketing or adverts, apart from the odd £25 on a FB post that goes viral. £zilch. I rely on referrals to my website and word of mouth. I don't buy any Google adwords or take part on any websites like Autotrader or What car or Contracthireandleasing. They are all like vampires, sucking cash. You can get hooked on them like heroin. So, I was getting a bit panicky last week, as it seemed impossible to break through the wall of news on Covid19. The top 10 BBC items were all Covid. My Web traffic was dropping. No one was listening to posts about Citroen C3s and BMW Gran Coupes. WAH! In a bid to stir up some web traffic and car orders, I thought: ...let's use the bloody virus, then. So I wrote my 80% furlough letter to staff in a slightly bonkers way. (it's below) It started on the Sunderland footy forum where it seems every fan will have a car from me. that went to 9 pages. Link is here: https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/lings-cars-letter-to-staff.1512081/ One of the Mackems sent it to the Sun. ... then BOOM. So far, it's got Daily Mirror, The Sun, Newcastle Chronicle and some foreign newspapers too. To buy this much advertising would cost £thousands. Loads of positive comments and shares on the UK newspaper sites, hundreds. Loads of backlinks. It went mental on Twitter too when the newspapers went live, so many kind comments. My web traffic went through the roof and loads of proposals on Monday, the first finance acceptance (BMW finance still working) and order (for a MIni) today. more to come I hope. loads in the pot, it's getting the fin cos to process them that's hard. Dealer fleet people mainly doing these from home. GDPR is out of the window. All this stuff is great Google juice, the newspaper links are worth a fortune in SEO. Then, due to the American Spanish paper (biggest Spanish paper in the US), I got an invite to join in a Uni course in Florida State University, which is great for weblinks/google juice. If only I were as nice to my staff as people think I am... all i was doing was giving my (few) staff a tickle in the dark days; here are some pics of the stuff (below) boyz, for those of you who struggle to read I'm not trying to get "well done"s, just suggesting marketing opportunities still exist, even now. - Ling My staff furlough letter (above) Sunderland Footy forum (and me proving to the Mackems it we REALLY me) The Sun The Mirror The Chronicle A local internet paper La Opinion, LA Spanish newspaper (biggest in USA) Some Greet shit paper My Uni course booking

1 pointThey can be fined. They're not essential key workers. Lot of ads on fb about social distancing sales. If they're flouting this rule they should not be trusted. Probably selling a banger. Feel free to report them. @have a word with the wife well put mate. Saved me the typing lol. PS i hear a lot of drug dealers have been caught. Hopefully Dodgy car dealers will be too. And if you're car isn't shown as taxed or insured as a buyer then expect your pants pulled down big time on top of essential travelling questions..

1 pointIt can cause major complications. Especially if mother gets pneumonia or other lung issues. And then there could be that decision of either saving baby or mother. I know I might sound jumping ahead of the gun but in the medical field one thing can lead to another especially with this lethal virus. But I wholeheartedly agree the current generation are thick as a brick. They're being paid to sit at home but cannot even do that. It annoys me. Then they all blame bojo and others. No one should have to tell you what to do...
