Who cares what Cazana says, ask the public who or what Cazana is and they'll have a guess at maybe......a region on Mexico...etc etc. Completely unknown by the public, they are simply a non entity.....

I think EPV? put it over the best a while back: whether buying at auction or not, the talent is picking out the 'underpriced/undervalued stuff that others may miss or not understand or realise is priced wrong -as you know what it'll likely fetch retail (from experience). The guide is just that. A guide. Whether that's buying something with a problem that you know isn't, or a seemingly undesirable thing you know has a following, or even something you just 'like' yourself and know you can resurrect. Taking a chance on a car with no history, or one that's on the list. An old girl but great spec. Something that's been boyed up that you can put back to standard and so on. It's a lottery as to how many you'll win v lose- and as TV said yesterday: the stock speaks to you in the end and you evolve to stock what works for you and the site (if you have one). I don't bid at auctions anymore, but did for many years. It's a despicable sham that wouldn't be allowed in another walk of life as half the 'bids' aren't genuine. If I do bid at auction, it's online and I set my max price before and leave it. Surprisingly I do win the odd couple a month and often below my highest bid- as I guess this is more regulated in that if you always win at your highest bid, then a rat will indeed be smelled. An auction is an invaluable place to hang out and watch and learn though. I spent half my childhood in them.

I would have thought putting your name in the logbook would actually be seen as a bonus. If it's good enough for you to drive it must be good enough for a punter!

Similar for me - I got dropped off at BCA Tewkesbury (remember that?) armed with a list of a dozen or so potential purchases = lift back. Nothing bought with only 5 cars left to go of which 3 or 4 were immediately pulled off sale, leaving a Saab 9000. It was this or a long cold train, so I took it at £900 + fees. Air bag light was on (when those sort of things could spell disaster). Upon checking, it was a Griffith Turbo (sought after apparently) and made £3,500 on eBay with enquiries coming out of my ears.

Hi Beechwood If it is any help,2 months ago I restarted and set up a pitch after being 7 years retired ( but on the periffery).Everyone said don’t bother because things have changed and I can understand why.Setting it up took long enough from getting BT,Utilities,bank accounts,card machines,new insurance regs,website,FCA stuff,etc,lots of bullshittters letting you down. When you factor in that most people under 40 are either debt ridden or would prefer to rent a new car instead,your target market is now drastically reduced.When you do a deal now,the punters often take a week or more to collect and settle up.I only go in for an hour or so per day but I get very impatient , it has definateley changed.As for getting stock,if you can pay Cap Clean for stuff you will be doing well....being an estate agent sounds better .....Good Luck.

Stick to Volvo and Vw diesel estates between 2003-2008 and you will do ok.

No (so not much help) but like much aftermarket ‘stuff’ it’ll either be fine or shite. Obviously the original is buggered so it’s be better than that . Don’t write stuff off cos it’s cheap. Everyone on this forum thinks anything on eBay is spew - I can buy genuine Sachs clutches/DMF for 60% of the price of the local factors.

I suggest you just do a few from home. At the mo I honestly wouldn’t advise someone to pack in a job that pays their bills to start trading full time unless they have a strong financial cushion to fall back on - and that’s after they’ve paid out for stock. Mind you, with the quality of employers of many non-professional jobs, contractual hours (i.e. sweet f.a.) and low wages I don’t know how many unskilled workers can afford to live.

Had someone this morning test drive a Megane at £4999 then tell me that Parkers says £2700. I said I'll have 6 and give him £500 profit on each. He then says his wife works for Renault and they said £3500 so I said what are you doing here? I'd buy theirs at that price. Suprisingly they haven't got any. Amazing how they take the time and trouble to look at a car which, apparently, is so overpriced. Why don't they go and buy one of the cheaper ones advertised.
