Yes, get the car back to your mechanic. We sold a 2002 Honda S2000 a couple of years ago with full Honda serv hist 93k. Broke a con-rod and made nice hole in the side of engine. Customer wanted a full refund. I employed the services of ACE Inspection engineers who reported that the valves had bounced off the piston heads immediately before engine failure (physically marked) . Their report stated that the driver had probably mis-selected a gear and over-revved the engine causing the failure. Customer collected the car with tail between his legs and got it repaired elsewhere at his own cost. Don't give up too early...

If it ran low on oil it must have put a warning light on. Could be worth scanning to see if it has stored it and at how many miles to see if he carried on driving regardless

We've had a couple of XC70's with faulty HU-850 units. If the car has rear parking sensors they are wired through the HU-850 unit and wont operate if you replace with an after market unit. Central Services 01206 396272 repair the units and have done a good job for me in the past.

quick tip= any car you've actually got a "for sale" in, make sure its ready to go, not will take for mot once i got a deposit, or that bald tyre will be done when you collect it , any car offered for sale it is assumed that it is ready to go. remove any for sale notices on vehicles not ready, also if youve got any trade sale only cars, remove all advertising too, its easier

Luke, if you are straight, I would suggest you ring them enquiring why, this shows you are a responsible business. If not.... hide all of your paperwork and run to the hills with your maidens..... when they get you...say nothing Hope this helps.... Seriously now, its best to confront any issue.... not knowing eats away at you.

either, they can just turn up, usually after someone has complained

Does the customer not know that a BMW uses 1L of oil per 1000 miles. My advice to you is don't give up, I am also going through a hard time but still surviving. The odds are against us newbies from the start and if we can make it past all the bollocks that this job brings then you know how rewarding it can be

I think the pro buyers charge £40 - £50 (inc Ivan ) and they get free accomodation from auction houses. Collection from nearby train stations, pick of the bunch at the local strip club etc....

As a BCA inspector I just wondered which labrador you have, is it black or golden?

As a BCA inspector i’d say you’ve learned to make things up as you go along, that’s all you need really

Have to disagree with comments saying bad colour combo, I’ve sold a few silver with red SLKs, and sold them well, but I wouldn’t be getting excited about the engine,, usually sell to women who are more bothered about running costs, so 200K are the more favourable from a retail point. If it was a nice car with good spec and history it’s £4500 to retail at £6-£6500 but remember it’s you that they are coming back to see when it goes wrong not your mate that you sell it for.

prove me wrong but i think you need a check up from the neck up if you give him 5 bags for such a niche 14 year old german thing

I’ve got exactly the same issue, an HU-850 not playing any sound (apart from the occasional ‘pop’ or ‘crackle’ - I think they were made by Kellogg’s). Funnily enough mine’s also an 06 but it’s not age related, it’s a common HU-850 failing. My answer has been to do sweet f.a. & not refer to it on the adverts. I’ve got four figures wiped across the old knacker so if the punter wants a few quid off I’ll oblige. Tbh I find S60 punters ‘want a deal’ cos they’re nice but a little bit greedy - they’re usually only buying an S60 cos they won’t/can’t pay up for a V70. Basically stuff them greedy eBay chancers.

Paddy, if you get something to replace it from the breakers, flog the tut coming out in ebay; some weird types on there who maybe after the parts you have to sell.... you never know, could be worth twenty/thirty quid to someone.. every little helps - now get it bought.
