Blenheim Car Sales 111 Posted May 27, 2019 (edited) 2013 508 1.6 tdi with 83k and the EGC semi auto gear box. I have heard of the reputation of this box and till now avoided it. That all went out the window when i was desperate to sell my oldest car and here i am now with a problem. When you start the car and select either drive or reverse no gear is actually selected and you can rev the car stationary in gear. When selecting either drive or reverse a gearbox fault comes up on the dashboard and a i few "ping" noises. Now my customer came 2 times from 40 miles away to test drive and collect this car and then i drove the car trying to induce a fault and i could find nothing wrong. It selected all gears and even in manual sequential setting performed fine. There is no judder or vibration when setting off. My diag reader could not connect to car but there were no warning lights illuminated on dashboard. Anyone have any ideas as it sounds from my basic research expensive and specialist. I am in wolverhampton your experiences may lead me down the right path. I believe its actuators. E Edited May 27, 2019 by Blenheim Car Sales Spelling
Del Boy 76 Posted May 27, 2019 I have also suffered this fault many times. It can be anything, abs sensor, handbrake fault, gear selector module or even the wiring! But most likely clutch/actuator. Need to get it on a proper diag
Dave2302 387 Posted May 27, 2019 (edited) Get it read on dealer kit, Pug Planet / Lexia. @Del Boy just beat me to it If you have a decent Mechanic and not a "Fitter" he should be able to strip the Actuator Motors and then source and fit new Brushes, if that is the problem, which it very often is at that sort of mileage These Manual Box Auto's are mostly produced by the old Getrag, now Magna, ............... Now typo Magna to MagMa , think Volcano, Bang !! Yeah you got it............ Shite exploding Cogboxes .................... Shame 'cos the old Getrag Manuals were bloody good boxes. Blenheim Car Sales 111 Posted May 27, 2019 I read it might be the actuator and it kinda makes sense. I plan on getting it over to specialist after bank holiday. I have read if you leave it ticking over 15 min then try this works ???. I will have to try this. Currently its lifeless in my unit.
Dave2302 387 Posted May 27, 2019 (edited) Try gently tapping the motors on the selector, it can nudge the brushes a bit !! If that works for a minute then it is likely Brushes !! When I had the Transmission Firm, my Head Mechanic used to fix the Actuators very cheaply, according to him there were only 2 different kinds of electric motors across the broad range of Marques that these were fitted to, and he bought a big bag of motor brushes from RS or similar, 2 minutes with a piece of sandpaper along one edge of the brush, fitted and worked a treat, never saw them again !! I didn't want to do them as a business proposition, but back then we put all our Car Traders on to him to sort 'em out at his home workshop, and sort 'em out he did. Letting the vehicle tick over builds up pressure in some funny little ball so when the pressure is up all is well. The mosy annoying aspect of this is having to ring around the scrap yards trying to find said part and having to put up with their smart arsed comments about in demand used parts. Oh how we laugh. BHM 994 Posted May 27, 2019 EGS/EGC gearboxes - is it possible to ever get one of these pieces of shit to 100,000 miles without knacking up? Good luck Blenheim, after experiencing two of these, & countless punters trying to offload them, they’re also on my AVOID list unless they’re scrap money. "When I were a lad" I drove a Jensen GT for a while until it rusted away. But even as an enthusiastic teen I couldn't kill that Getrag 5spd box. The dog leg first was a pain, but that's the price you paid for a box designed for racing

Best of luck as I imagine the customer ‘forgot’ to mention the issue.
Blenheim Car Sales 111 Posted May 31, 2019 Visited 3 Peugeot specialists on Wednesday and gave the work to the one i thought had the greater understanding of my issue, Owner of the company has 25 years of Peugeot experience there workshop was full of 10-16 plate Peugeot and upon hearing of my issue he said Clutch and flywheel......................... he then said lets put on the diag and came back with a report with fault codes, I did not understand them but he said again its the Clutch and flywheel, Anyway we agree to give him the work and they call me on the Thursday that they now have the bell housing off and i should pay them a visit to look, The clutch is toast and the DMF is one of the worst they had seen and this was worn away to nothing, This other things was worn in a particular way i was there looking at same thing with them and i dont know a good one from bad so i did not have a clue, I did see a load of micro dust fillings however in the bell housing and he said the only way that could get there was from something going wrong on the clutch or DMF, Long Story short, Its a £1200 job for DMF and LUK Clutch and many hours of labour and then setting up, They did say that the working of the Actuator and the other mechanisms that go on to make the ECG gearbox was it looked all in good working order, Oil in reservoir for gearbox and no splits in the hoses supping the oil, Not yet got it back but will report when i do, Fingers crossed and all that
Mojo121 229 Posted May 31, 2019 Thanks for updating - often people forget to. Sorry it’s costing so much, this can be a cruel game at times!

Well, if it's any consolation, I've just been hit with a gearbox rebuild on a 12 plate auto Juke done 22k! I know a great guy if anyone is ever stuck with auto headaches (Southcoast) he's very reasonable too.

It doesn’t around these parts! I also struggle to believe £1200 can be added to the retail price of one of Peugeot’s finest.
Blenheim Car Sales 111 Posted June 3, 2019 Final update......................collected it this morning from a company called "Just Peugeot" near Walsall, great bunch of guys really knew there stuff, I had new clutch, Dual mass flywheel, Thrust bearing, New oils for actuator as well as it being all set up on there diagnostics machines, Works exactly as it should now, I was there this morning for the 1st start up of the weekend the garage them selves having done 2 stone cold starts already, £1200 and i wont get any of that back on the sale price but i will make a big thing on the add and anyone who visits, Its a very salable point, luckily the cosmetics are decent so its not quite the margin i wanted but at least its now working and soon to be on sale
DomingoSpear 0 Posted June 9, 2019 I too have also suffered this fault many times. I'm having a 508 SW GT and issues with the gearbox. The gearbox BANGS almost every time when i select D. It does not matter if before it was in Neutral, Parking or Reverse, it always BANGS when i set it to Drive.. The gear changes however are smooth, lot of power, not slipping at all. Click here.
