Newbie hello

Hi All,

After a few weeks of lurking in the shadows, I thought it time I reveal myself (not like that!). In all seriousness though, it’s been a massive help reading this forum, so I already owe you all some thanks.

So a bit about me; my name is James, 35 and based in West Sussex. I’ve previously worked part time at an independent trader, and have on-off traded privately from home for the last few years. I love everything Cars, spend all my spare time researching cars, and being a Chartered Engineer I’m fairly handy at the odd fix too. I’ve always been drawn to this industry, hence the prior dabbling, but never took the plunge to make it a proper business. I still plan to retain my day job for the short to medium term, but this time have serious aspirations to start a professional business and grow it into something. In terms of stock, I’m going to focus on performance, as this is what I know, and have had some fairly good success with in the past. I plan to stock 3 cars in the £5-10k range to start with and trade from home whilst I build up some capital to take the business to its next stage.

No doubt I have a massive amount to learn, there’s a big difference between what I’ve done before and what I would like to do, so I hope you guys won’t mind the odd daft question!

So that’s it for now, I look forward to hopefully becoming an active member of the forum soon.

James

Hi Justina, previous examples of what I’ve sold are along the lines of Focus ST’s, Civic Type R’s, Renaultsport Clio’s, and that’s still the aim. Would love to get into higher end performance, but that’s just a dream right now :D

Hi James

My first reaction to your intro,I would keep your day job ( presuming you like it )and try and do 2 or 3 per month from home.No premises,no debt,no staff etc.,it is now very hard to make good money and GET AHEAD in this job.

Keep asking questions, the guys on here will keep you right....Good Luck.

The quality of these intros has increased greatly in the last few months. Welcome to the forum and best of luck. The harder and smarter you work the luckier you'll get :-)

Good luck, I think specialising is the way forward and finding what  works for you is key.Plus its easier to be passionate about cars you enjoy than perhaps 1.8 Cmax'/ Kia Souls/ Lacettis.

Kia Soul

Ouch...... I’ve got one as an ornament - cracking fun car but I must be the only one who likes it.

Good luck James - sensible introduction and a good age to start out.

You’ll get plenty of interest in sporty stuff just be aware of the knowitalls who will consume your time checking every detail and telling you how wrong each car is.

Having said that, they always sell - unlike Kia Souls

Thanks TV, good advice, that’s exactly the plan. I don’t really like the day job, but that’s what pays the bills so will he keeping it up until such times as this venture proves itself.

Was just generic examples  - I don't mind selling anything if there is money in it. I haven't a clue to be honest. :D

It’s always cars I think will sell instantly that sit and the ones I think will be around a while sell instantly.

Funny old game.

To be honest, I usually would but the first one bothered to pick up the phone and request a viewing.  When I said, I work 8.30 - 5.30 (at least) Mon-Fri, I do weekends by appointment, which means if no one is coming I can have a well deserved day at home - what time would you like to come?  He said, you enjoy your weekend and I will come to you on Monday, would you like me to call first? What a gentleman.  I just said, you're ok to turn up, if I'm not there I will only be at the workshop around the corner.

I am not going to gazump him for the sake of a loose CG generic lead, I shall reply to them on Monday.

Maybe foolish but respect works both ways.
