Can Anyone Help me with a SKODA Fabia 2005 Electric Windows issue

Recommended Posts

Hi,

As title, I've already spent an Hour on VAG Com and this lady owner is our local Postie, she's on her own and doesn't have a ton of money, a nice lass !!

I'm hoping someone can help me save her some money on my hours / parts darts stage ..................

Its a pretty tidy Fabia 2005,  6Y model, has Manual Rear Windows, and Electric Windows in the Front 2 Doors.

Neither Front Windows are working Up or Down, Left Door doesn't work from it's own switch or the Drivers.

All failed suddenly and at the same time.

I've checked the 2 x 25 A Fuses in Dash Fusebox and cleaned and re seated the Door Jamb Wiring Plugs. VAG Com is not seeing any Door Modules ? ......................

It seems to see everything I'd normally see on a low spec VAG, does this old thing even have Door Modules ??

Everything else on the old bus working fine, including C/L, and the only 2 Faults in a full VAG Com Scan is Radio Aerial Amplifier and A/C needs Regas ;)

I'm Guesstimating changing the Drivers Switch Pack, maybe a Passenger Switch too, as it seems they are crap, but again I don't wanna rump her bill up ;)

Does the car have a total close facility ie turn and hold the key, seen similar fault on a polo go down once which took the windows out.

No sunroof and no Rear Eleccy Windows I very much doubt it, Central Locking working fine off Key Buttons and using Key Blade

OK, so I'll look into that now via Google / Fleabay, does that affect both sides then ?

I think so, but I don't think they're to expensive, so might be worth doing both sides for her, but you know that better than me.  I just buy and sell the junk ;0)

I would start by changing the switches common fault cheap aswell before you do that check fuses

Hi, Yeah I checked Fuses, left them both out a while and also tried the hold key in unlocked position then hold in locked position "reset" but fuck all is happening.

I'll just tell her we can try new left and right door switches first, they're pretty cheap, and easy to fit, then if that doesn't work it's new Motor(s) which have modules built in, starting with the Drivers Door ;)

Check the wiring loom that goes from door to engine bay they are prone for getting caught and splitting

Special treatment no doubt ;)

On all VAG cars wiring plugs between door and body go all green an foisty, wiring snapping between is also mega common.

I wonder if she tried to fire them down when they were iced up? Blown motors?

Can you put a live to the motor and get it to graft?

Temic motor?

These are the troublesome ones on the old Megane too from memory?

Hi,

Cheers Guys, thanks for all the advice.

Yes, I've checked all the obvii, had the door plugs apart, didn't look that bad, contact cleaner and pick, and re seated, door loom looks ok as far as I can see without door card removal, I've tried 2 new fuses f46 and f58, plus all the silly reset procedures LL TO NO AVAIL :(

l suspect the Motor / Module, but what I'll do is try a set of switches first, these seem to be very common failure items according to t'internet.

That's the quickest easiest thing first, if that don't work I can get her a used tested Motor Assy for under £30 squids, I'll see what she wants to do she'll be in later on.

You all know I was hoping someone was just gonna say yep, it is always the xxxxxxxx  but sadly its a VAG product

Also I've had my one easy one this week, that Shaguar !!

I also got a 2011 E Class here waiting on a Spring and Top Mount and that one has a right odd HVAC Fault, so half the Dash is outta that right now, but the guy who owns it is a very well off Property Developer, so he can afford the huge bill ;)

4 more for next week, a Passat for a Subframe and a load of MOT work, X5 Air Susp and Service, Bongo Auto Box job, a Truck for Rear Caliper, one of my Sales Cars to prep and MOT, and a sold GLA going out tomorrow, plus there's a Rally Club mates MkII Escort Gearbox that's been here since Xmas, and the Snowman Rally is next w/e I think, so I better do that later

Snow is on hard now, settling like a bastard, gotta go pick Mel up in a while, she won't drive in it now after last years C Class ice / deep ditch incident :(

My money is on the actual switch (drivers side) and the passenger one not working because the circuit is broken, old Christmas tree light esque.

I am not techy but that is my 2p

All these electronic issues mean I'm starting to hanker after my MK4 Cortina again.

Bought a nice Freelander 2 earlier this week. Low miles, FSH, one owner. All good, bought direct from owner who's chopping it in for an Evoque.

Decided to use it today, fine for first hour or so, then got a HDC Fault message flash up. Cleared on stop/start and not re-appeared, Google seems to think it's a random error they throw when low battery (likely issue with this one, hence using it) and cold weather (so today definitely) but it's broken my confidence in it a bit. Oddly the spare remote is a bit slow to respond too, takes 5 minutes to lock/unlock it (unlocks just when you are about to give up on it).

I agree Mark ;)

She's just picked the Car up, Drivers Switch Pack ordered, Car coming in 11th Feb ;)

I just hate Parts Darts, but sometimes, if, like this one, it's not an obvious fault like a Fuse, Wiring Plug etc, and the parts aren't too expensive it just plain makes sense ;)

That’ll be a lot of fag ash on the floor over almost 2 weeks.

Dave, the passenger switch may not have worked prior to the new fault, if shes never tried the passenger button she wouldn't know.... My hunch is the door loomy thing  of drivers door switch, or a fuse, or an act of god..... HTH

Dave, in vag com you can usually read the measuring blocks for the window switches and see what they are doing.

Hi, usually the module connected to the drivers motor on these. The passenger one stops working because it's a slave to the drivers one. Should have comms with the drivers door module where you can see the switch inputs. The wires in the door harness also snap away.

Passat subframe? Please go on sir?

Has to be driver error surely, Most of them are alloy so that should rule corrosion out..... although he is in Jockland.

I couldn't find Door Module on the Skoda in VAG Com, so looks like could be the Motor / Module assy then, we'll try the Switches first, as they take 10 seconds to fit, but yeah, I was suspicious of not finding a door module.....................

Trouble is as a rule I don't do a lot with Skoda's so I wasn't sure this old shitter would actually have a door module

For those new to the party lol, thanks for the help but if you'd read back, I checked Fuses and Door Wiring for breaks, plus the A Post Multiplugs and all were good.

Anyone else (regular billy), and I've have took the Door apart, but just trying to save her some money, she's a damned good postie, and does a lot for the local community. She'll probably only end up getting charged the parts at cost anyways ;)

Next old shitter lol .................. Passat 1.9 TDI Wagon, 2003 so a B5.5 which has a Steel Subframe, (well it used to before the tin mice ate it :D

The rest of it is mint, he's had it from 3 years old, loves it, and it's MOT time, though how the fuck it passed last year I'll never know ...............

Looks like that Sprayer fella "Stevie Wonder" is now doing MOT's somewhere round here  So it's having Good used S/Frame, Front Caliper, Discs and Pads, Rear Caliper and Pads, Side Impact Airbag Crash Sensor and a couple of bulbs, light bulbs are optional in Glenelg so I'm told

That sold GLA went out, the guy and wifey turned up in an Immaculate looking 2005 2.0 HDI Berlingo Desire with ABS & SRS Light on !!

He says "I suppose you don't know anyone who will buy our old Car pointing at the Citrooooon ?"

Apparantly he was quoted a million pounds for a BSI job, so I gave it a look over, normally I'd not touch anything this old to retail, but it's like new underneath, nice Metallic Blue, trim all good and 98k miles, so I bid him £150, which he took :lol:

Had it on Lexia this morning, fuck all wrong with BSI, SRS showing Left Pre Tensioner (coded that as not present), Airbag Light off now , needs Right front ABS Sensor / Reluctor, I've ordered both, no other faults, drives beautifully !!

I've just phoned a local fella I knew was looking for something like this, told him it'll be ready for Friday, £1995 with fresh MOT and Oil and all Filters Service ........... SOLD ............

And to cap it all I just won £45 off a Scratch Card, yeah good start to February
